My name is Caroline Amberson, and I’m the fourth grade Common Core Demonstration Teacher at Dr. Mildred Dalton Henry Elementary School. I have been an elementary teacher for thirteen years. As we continue to strengthen our implementation of the Common Core State Standards and the Next Generation Science Standards, scholars will be achieving new heights of complexity and application of skills, which will require a shift in focus and strategies from administrators, teachers, and parents alike. Educators and parents are welcome to visit my classroom or open an email dialogue about Common Core State Standards or the changes necessary for successful instructional practices in our current educational environment. Note: Ms. Amberson may be out due to professional development opportunities, or briefly unavailable during conference/testing times. Elementary Instruction Videos Math Circles: Scholars in Ms. Amberson’s class are taught many different methods of solving problems. This video focuses on how to incorporate math circles and their necessary components (communication, collaboration, planning, self-evaluation, etc.) into an upper-elementary classroom. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MaYp6Lv8JFQ Thematic Novel Units: As an instructor, Ms. Amberson values multiple approaches to a curriculum. Thematic novel units allow an educator to increase rigor through the use of topical novels and other source material, while providing scholars many diverse opportunities to master Common Core Standards. https://vimeo.com/122046778
