FELIZ DÍA DE LA INDEPENDENCIA
Pastor’s Note
Happy Independ- ence Day! I hope everyone gets to enjoy time with family and friends
as our nation celebrates its free- dom. Today, though, I’m cele- brating a different kind of freedom. I had the chance to witness it last weekend at the Steubenville Lone Star youth conference. It wasn’t a political freedom or a freedom to do whatever you want. If you’ve ever tried it, you know that those kinds of freedoms are fragile and often end up enslaving us. The freedom that I saw there was deep- er and more real. I wish you could’ve been there with me to see it: almost 2000 teens weighed down, stressed out, and numb, coming alive, having chains broken, and joy flooding their hearts. I saw a freedom that only God can give, a freedom that only comes from knowing Him personally. It also made me realize just how deeply the pandemic has affected these youth, because the uncontrollable excitement that erupted from them pointed to a proportional hurt un- derneath. You might not realize it and they probably won’t tell you (they’re so good at hiding their pain), but I can tell that the young people of our country are hurting. They’re anxious, isolated, pressured, broken, and just sad. They don’t have a lot of good people to guide them. Their adults – parents, aunts and uncles, teach- ers, and church leaders – have let them down. But God is still work- ing. He’s bringing these youth back to life! He’s parting the sea for them! He’s leading them out of slavery and into freedom! May we
follow them and share their joy.

Reflection (Reflexin) July 4, 2021
Faith or trust in God is the most important theme in today’s Gospel. Mark tells of Jesus’ rejection of his own people. Even after all the miracles of healing which Jesus worked, he still was not ac- cepted even with his own town. As he taught in the synagogue there his hearers were amazed that this ordinary man whom they knew as the carpenter could attain such wisdom, and they rejected him. Let’s pray that we may recognize Jesus’ presence in the ordinary encounter of our days this week and notice the ways through which He desires to nourish us and give us life, because Jesus is present in all things. Blessings and Happy 4th of July.

Catechists play a significant role in the faith formation of our parish community. Not only do we walk the faith journey with the students, but build a relationship with the family as a whole. Afterall, isn’t that what God is calling us to do. Together, we can grow in our relation- ship with Jesus until we come face to face with him.
Have a blessed Independence Day and give thanks for the freedom we enjoy as a nation. Most especially thank God for the price he paid for the freedom of our sins. Blessings.
