Group One placegetter The Virginian (Hinchinbrook) is expected to run in Saturday’s Eye Liner Stakes (Listed, 1350m) at

Ipswich after missing a start in the Stradbroke Handicap (Gr 1, 1350m) at the weekend.

The Toby Edmonds-trained four-year-old was an emergency in Saturday’s Stradbroke Handicap, a race won by three-year-old Impending (Lonhro), with connections now forced to switch their attentions to the Eye Liner Stakes.

Having run third in the 2016 Stradbroke Handicap at Eagle Farm, The Virginian returned from an injury enforced spell with a three-quarter length victory in the Chief De Beers Stakes (Listed, 1050m) at Doomben on 20 May.

He then ran fourth in the Moreton Cup (Gr 2, 1200m) at Doomben on 3 June and will tackle the $175,000 Listed race at Ipswich on Saturday.

“The Virginian is going really well and we were disappointed to miss a run (on Saturday),”

Edmonds’ son and assistant trainer Trent Edmonds told ANZ Bloodstock News yesterday.

“Hopefully he can win the Eye Liner and the Glasshouse Handicap and the plan is for him to be back next year for the Stradbroke when it is hopefully back at Eagle Farm.”

The Glasshouse Handicap (Listed, 1400m) will be held at the Sunshine Coast on 1 July, with Saturday’s June Stakes (Listed, 1100m) winner, the Brett Cavanough-trained The Monstar (California Dane), also likely to target the $175,000 race.

The Virginian, who was bred and owned by Stuart Ramsey, progressed from a Gold Coast Class One victory in May 2016 to be placed in that year’s Stradbroke Handicap and had two starts in Melbourne last spring. Toby Edmonds SPORTPIX

He ran sixth in the Testa Rossa Stakes (Listed, 1200m) and sixth in the Paris Lane Handicap (Listed, 1400m) behind Ulmann (Sebring) last October before knee problems cut short his spring campaign and was subsequently given a long spell.

The weather is expected to play a major part in the makeup of the field for the Eye Liner Stakes at Ipswich.

Several horses who failed to make the field for the Stradbroke Handicap at Doomben on Saturday are expected to run a week later in the Eye Liner, but predicted rain for the next four days could curtail plans.

Murwillumbah trainer Matt Dunn has earmarked the Eye Liner Stakes for Perfect Dare (Fastnet Rock) who was third in the Moreton Cup at his last start.

Dunn, however, said Perfect Dare had an aversion to wet tracks and he would have to watch the weather before committing to a start in the Listed race.

Eagle Farm trainer Desleigh Forster has already ruled out the Eye Liner Stakes for Too Good To Refuse (Rothesay) because of a likely rain-affected surface at Ipswich.

The four-year-old entire was beaten by a nose in Saturday’s Hinkler Handicap (Listed, 1200m) at Doomben when second to Miss Gunpowder (Pendragon) and will be reserved for the Glasshouse Handicap.

"The Eye Liner was to be his race after he was fourth emergency in the Stradbroke. But I didn't want to run him on a rain-affected track at Ipswich so ran at Doomben," Forster said.

"He will now go to the Glasshouse Mountains Sprint in a fortnight at Caloundra."

As well as The Virginian, Edmonds is also likely to have talented sprinter Sundance (I Am Invincible) resuming at Ipswich on Saturday in an 1100 metre three-year-old handicap.

The promising gelding has won three of his nine starts and won a 1000 metre Doomben barrier trial on 30 May when defeating the Kelly Schweida-trained Stella Ombra (Dane Shadow). That four-year-old gelding won over 1200 metres at Randwick on Saturday when ridden by Brenton Avdulla.

Meanwhile, Randwick trainers Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott will have at least two runners at Ipswich on Saturday, including Slumber Party (Snitzel) in the Gai Waterhouse Classic (Listed, 1350m).

The three-year-old filly, who was fifth to Bonny O’Reilly (O’Reilly) in the Coughlan Stakes (Listed, 1200m) at Doomben on 3 June, has won once from eight starts.

She was purchased by Paul Moroney Bloodstock on behalf of Sir Owen Glenn’s Go Bloodstock for $800,000 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast National Broodmare Sale days before her last start.

Stablemate Sort After (Wanted), a Group Two-placed four-year-old mare, will contest the $175,000 Ipswich Cup (Listed, 2150m) on Saturday.

Sort After, who was runner up in a 1270 metre barrier trial at the Sunshine Coast on 6 June, has not raced since finishing second to Exocet (Smart Missile) in the Centaurea Stakes (Listed, 2019m) at Morphettville on 20 May.

Four For Needs Further

Armidale Stud first crop stallion Needs Further (Encosta De Lago) yesterday sired his fourth winner when Need A Queen (2 f ex Queen’s Own by Coronation Day) won a Two-Year-Old

Handicap at Launceston. The John Blacker-trained juvenile was placed at three of her four starts before yesterday’s victory by a nose over debut winner My Biddy (Wordsmith). Need A Queen joins Listed winner Pateena Arena, Il Regalo and Jubilance as Needs Further’s winners. He stands in Tasmania at Armidale Stud for a fee of $5,500 (inc GST). Rejuvenated Vaniloquio To Continue Good FormTrainer Clarry Conners credits a change of environment for the consistent form of import Vaniloquio (Acclamation), who has won three times since transferring to the Warwick Farm-based trainer in 2016. 1200 metres, while his stablemate ran down the field at Flemington in November at his last start. "(Kafoo) had knee surgery and he's coming back," co-trainer David Hayes said. "He's got an awkward gate but he's a talented horse. We thought enough of him to run him in a Blue Diamond Preview. They both seem well, but they're not at their peak having had so long out." Tatt’s Tiara For In Her TimeNewcastle trainer Ben Smith intends to continue with the preparation of in-form four-year-old In Her Time (Time Thief) after her gallant second in Saturday’s Stradbroke Handicap (Gr 1, 1350m). A winner of the Breeders Classic (Gr 2, 1200m) and the Millie Fox Stakes (Gr 2, 1300m) earlier this preparation, In Her Time will run in the Tattersall’s Tiara (Gr 1, 1350m) on 24 June at Doomben. Smith reported yesterday that In Her Time, who was caught wide in the Stradbroke Handicap, had pulled up extremely well despite the tough run. Waterhouse-Bott Duo Likely For Tatt’sGai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott are likely to be double handed in the Tattersall’s Tiara at Doomben on 24 June. Co-trainer Bott has confirmed that the smart three-year-old pair Prompt Response (Beneteau) and My True Love (Fastnet Rock), who finished first and second respectively in the Dane Ripper Stakes (Gr 2, 1350m) at Doomben on Saturday, will be aimed towards the $500,000 race. However, if My True Love fails to make the final field, she is likely to be aimed at the Sunshine Coast Guineas (Gr 3, 1600m) on 1 July instead. Break For Jungle EdgeTrainer Mick Bell has confirmed that Jungle Edge (Dubawi) will be given a short break. The dual Group Three-winning six-year-old finished second in the Kingsford-Smith Cup (Gr 1, 1300m) at Eagle Farm on 27 May but finished down the field in the Stradbroke Handicap on Saturday. Cranbourne-based Bell said that the gelding will have four to five weeks on the water walker in Queensland and could return in August if the tracks in Sydney are rain-affected.

Sunshine Coast Guineas Possible For NettoyerPromising three-year-old filly Nettoyer (Sebring), who scored a ten length victory at Randwick on Saturday over 2000 metres, could have her next start in the Sunshine Coast Guineas on 1 July. Trainer Wendy Roche revealed the impressive filly had the start of her career delayed due to an injury, forcing a planned Queensland Oaks (Gr 1, 2200m) campaign to be shelved. “She was being set for the Oaks but she went lame and we found that she had a sliver off her shoulder, a bone chip,” Roche told Racing.com. “She spent seven weeks in a box and I was trying to rush her to get to the Oaks but we obviously failed at that. She was nominated for the Guineas in Queensland and I thought she would’ve gone very close to winning but she was third emergency so stayed in Sydney.” Spell For Capital GainTrainer Paul Butterworth yesterday confirmed J J Atkins Stakes (Gr 1, 1600m) winner Capital Gain (Ad Valorem) would be given a lengthy spell after the two-year-old’s Group One victory at Doomben on Saturday. The

two-year-old gelding, who provided Butterworth with his maiden Group One victory as a trainer, is likely to bypass a spring campaign and instead be aimed at the ATC Australian Derby (Gr 1, 2400m) as a three-year-old. Capital Gain has won two of his eight starts and $452,300 in prize money earnings. WFA Aims For Hey DocThe Memsie Stakes (Gr 1, 1400m) is likely to be an early season target for Group One-winning rising four-year-old Hey Doc (Duporth). The Tony McEvoy-trained gelding, who won the Australian Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m) in the autumn, has not raced since finishing sixth in The Goodwood (Gr 1, 1200m) at Morphettville on 20 May. "The Memsie is an early target," McEvoy said. "It's a traditional kick-off so we'll head towards that and then on to the Makybe Diva hopefully." McEvoy said the Makybe Diva Stakes (Gr 1, 1600m) at Flemington would determine whether he was aimed at the Cox Plate (Gr 1, 2040m) at Moonee Valley or run in the Toorak Handicap (Gr 1, 1600m) at Caulfield.

Campaign Over For Single GazeGroup One winner Single Gaze (Not A Single Doubt) will not race again this campaign after finishing runner-up in Saturday’s Brisbane Cup (Gr 2, 2200m) at Doomben. Trained at Canberra by Nick Olive, the Vinery Stud Stakes (registered as Storm Queen Stakes) (Gr 1, 2000m) winner was successful twice during her Brisbane campaign. She won the Tails Stakes

(Listed, 1600m) at Doomben on 22 April and the P J O’Shea Stakes (Gr 2, 2200m) at Doomben on 3 June. Following Saturday’s placing Olive said Single Gaze, who has been ridden by Kathy O’Hara, would be spelled before embarking on a spring preparation. Spring Next For Champagne Cuddles Unbeaten two-year-old filly Champagne Cuddles (Not A Single Doubt), who resumed with an emphatic first-up victory at Randwick on Saturday for trainer Bjorn Baker, is likely to be a short break and aimed at a spring campaign. The Not A Single Doubt (Redoute’s Choice) filly won the Pierro Plate (1100m) on debut last October at Rosehill and has not been seen until running second in a 900 metre Rosehill barrier trial on 26 May. In a field of four on Saturday over 1000 metres, Champagne Cuddles settled last before staying closer to the inside rail to kick clear and win by two and a quarter lengths. Spell For Melody BelleNew Zealand Group One-winning two-year-old Melody Belle (Commands), who was unplaced as favourite in the J J Atkins Stakes on Saturday, will be spelled after her below par performance. Trained at Matamata by Jamie Richards and Stephen Autridge, Melody Belle raced on the speed at Doomben but weakened late at her first attempt over 1600 metres. Melody Belle had won the BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (Gr 2, 1400m) at Eagle Farm at her previous race start. Paddock Awaits Tactical AdvantageTrainer James Cummings has decided to spell three-year-old Tactical Advantage (Bel Esprit) after his luckless second in the Daybreak Lover Stakes (Listed, 1200m) at Doomben on Saturday. Tactical Advantage was one of three Cummings-trained runners at Doomben on Saturday and registered his second stakes placing to go with his five wins from ten starts. Cummings, who will take up the role as Godolphin Australia’s head trainer from 6 July, will not have any more runners from his Leilani Lodge stables at Randwick.

Victory Downs Takes Out Swan Hill CupThe Sue Jaensch-trained Victory Downs (Churchill Downs) won the $100,000 Swan Hill Cup (1600m) yesterday. The five-year-old ran on strongly in the home straight to lead approaching the 100 metres before stretching clear for a decisive success, beating Kaniana (Canny Lad) by a length and three quarters, with Don’t Get Excited (Elvstroem) just a head further behind in third place. “Victory Downs is probably a bit more special because we’ve got a little share in him,” Jaensch told Racing.com. “I’ve had him all along and it’s just so nice to win a race like this.” Click here to view the race replay. Smith To Front Stewards InquiryBrisbane trainer Brad Smith is hoping to quickly finalise a stewards' inquiry after being stood down for failing to appear at an earlier hearing. Smith has not trained for the past two weeks after stewards suspended him for failing to attend an inquiry. The trainer had told stewards he was too ill to attend. He went to the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal to appeal the suspension on Friday. "QCAT lifted the suspension and instructed that a new panel hear my case. I hope to resolve the issues as soon as possible," Smith said. "This has ruined my business and my health. I won't be training for a while anyway. But I want to clear my name." Ballina PostponedToday’s ten-race card at Ballina was yesterday called off by Racing NSW stewards due to inclement weather and the state of the track. Ballina had received 150 millimetres of rain in 48 hours and the wet weather showed no signs of abating yesterday, forcing stewards to postpone the meeting. Upon inspection yesterday the Ballina racecourse was found to have surface water.

Winter Cup Test For Our BanditOur Bandit (Bushranger) will be trained towards a tilt at the Winter Cup (Gr 3, 1600m) at Riccarton on 5 August. Trainer Peter McKenzie said the four-year-old, who was successful over 1400 metres at Trentham on Saturday, is likely to head straight to the NZ$100,000 race. “I’ve had a look at the immediate

programme and there isn’t much around for him between now and the Winter Cup,” he said. “He took a couple of starts to come to it but I think he is very exciting and has a real future ahead of him.” Wait A Sec Impresses At Te RapaWait A Sec (Postponed) ran out an impressive winner over 2100 metres at Te Rapa on Saturday and could now embark on a Cup campaign. The six-year-old quickened clear to score by three lengths in a Benchmark 85, and co-trainer Guy Lowry said the New Zealand Cup (Gr 3, 3200m) could be a long term target. “He seems to have come of age this time in as he has taken a while to mature,” Lowry, who trains in partnership with Grant Cullen, said. “The New Zealand Cup is the sort of race that will suit him so with that in mind he can have a rest soon as you can’t keep peaking them all the way to November.” Breakthrough Win For ZimmermanLightly raced three-year-old Mastercard (Makfi) broke his maiden over 1600 metres at Te Rapa on Saturday to provide his trainer Karen Zimmerman with her first winner. The gelding beat Hinerangi (Fastnet Rock) by a length and a half under Mark Du Plessis, and Zimmerman was delighted to register her first success. “It’s nice to get the win and especially with this horse as he has been plagued with bad draws,” Zimmerman said. “Everything just panned out well for him today. I’ve always held the horse in high regard but he’s had a few muscle problems along the way as he’s such a big horse.”

Epsom Cup To Dashing BlazeDashing Blaze (5 h Kitten’s Joy - Blazing Bliss by Honour And Glory) ran out a determined winner of the Epsom Cup (Gr 3, 1800m) at Tokyo yesterday. The Keiji Yoshimura-trained five-year-old was well positioned throughout the race by jockey Suguru Hamanaka, who sat just in behind the pace. He delivered Dashing Blaze with a strong challenge approaching the final 200 metres, and the entire kept on well to run down Astra Emblem (Daiwa Major) close home by half a length, with the front-running Meiner Honey (Matsurida Gogh) a further nose away in third. The four-year-old filly, who was a stakes winner as a two-year-old, moved through to lead shortly after the start and set even fractions under Kevin Manning. She kicked for home approaching the final three furlongs and ran on strongly to beat Laganore (Fastnet Rock) by a length and a quarter, with a break of two and a quarter lengths back to Reckless Gold (Pivotal) in third. Fourth Stakes Win For HoldthasigreenThe Claude Le Lay-trained Holdthasigreen (5 g

Hold That Tiger - Greentathir by Muhtathir) won the Grand Prix de Lyon (Listed, 2400m) at Lyon Parilly yesterday. The five-year-old, who has now won five times at Listed level, beat Smart Whip (Dylan Thomas) by three quarters of a length, with Master’s Spirit (Mastercraftsman) a further length and a half behind in third place. Holdthasigreen is one of 18 stakes winners for Hold That Tiger (Storm Cat), whose progeny are headed by multiple Grade One winner Smiling Tiger. Oppenheim-Union-Rennen To ColomanoThe lightly raced Colomano (3 c Cacique - Codera by Zilzal) led home a Markus Klug-trained trifecta in the Oppenheim-Union-Rennen (Gr 2, 2200m) at Cologne yesterday. The colt, who took out the Herzog von Ratibor Rennen (Gr 3, 1700m) at Krefeld as a two-year-old, showed a good attitude under Andreas Helfenbein to beat his stablemates Windstoss (Shirocco) and Northsea Star (Sea The Stars) by half a length and two and a quarter lengths respectively. Colomano is one of six stakes winners for his sire Cacique (Danehill), who was pensioned last year after proving subfertile. Six For FalcoThe progressive Stefano Botti-trained Holy Water (3 c ex Miss Bikini by Titus Livius) won the Premio Merano (Listed, 2000m) at Milan yesterday to provide Falco (Pivotal) with his sixth stakes winner. Falco’s progeny are headed by the dual Group One-winning mare Odeliz and he stands for a fee of €2,500 at Haras Du Grand Chesnaie in France. First Stakes Winner For Frozen PowerFrozen Power (Oasis Dream) sired his first stakes winner yesterday, courtesy of Triticum Vulgare’s (3 c ex Tatamagouche by Sadler's Wells) victory in the Premio d’Estate (Listed, 1600m) at Milan. The Fabio Saggiomo-trained colt ran on bravely under jockey Germano

Marcelli to beat Zubat (Mujahid) by half a length, with Together Again (Pivotal) just a short-neck behind in third place. Frozen Power, who won the 2010 Mehl Mulhens-Rennen (German 2,000 Guineas) (Gr 2, 1600m) when trained by Mahmood Al Zarooni, stands for a fee of €4,000 at Centro Equino Arcadia in Italy. Trust You Wins Premio BersaglioTrust You (5 g Kheleyf - Evening Guest by Be My Guest) followed up his last start victory in the Premio Tudini (Gr 3, 1200m) in Rome with success in the Premio Bersaglio (Listed, 1200m) at Milan yesterday. The Endo Botti-trained gelding beat Penalty (Mujahid) by a length into second under Silvano Mulas, with Zapel (Kyllachy) a further two lengths behind in third place. Trust You is one of 21 stakes winners for his Haras Des Faunes-based former shuttle sire Kheleyf (Green Desert). Arod Moved To SimcockGroup Two winner Arod (Teofilo) has been transferred back to the UK and will be trained by David Simcock. The Qatar Racing-owned entire ran six times for Chris Waller this season, finished runner-up at Group Three level twice, but he finished last of 16 runners in the Victoria Handicap (Gr 3, 1400m) at his final Australian start in April. "It was a nice surprise to be asked to take Arod and it all happened very quickly – he arrived in great shape,” Simcock told the Racing Post. “While we know much of his form having raced against him many times, we're still getting to know the horse.” Payne Expected to Ride At Royal AscotMichelle Payne is expected to be granted a visa enabling her to ride at Royal Ascot, despite concerns the UK government’s Home Office may reject an application. Payne has been booked to ride the Jane Chapple-Hyam-trained Kaspersky (Footstepsinthesand) in the Queen Anne Stakes (Gr 1, 1m) at Royal Ascot on 20 June. “We’ve had some communication with the Home Office there and the advice we got on Friday was that it’s looking absolutely settled and fine and she should be right to go,” Australian Jockeys Association chairman Des O’Keefe told Racing.com.

22 Grade One Winners For TapitThe Todd Pletcher-trained Tapwrit (3 c ex Appealing Zophie by Successful Appeal) stayed on strongly in the home straight to take out the Belmont Stakes (Gr 1, 12f) at Belmont on Saturday evening, in the process providing Tapit (Pulpit) with his 22nd Grade One winner. The colt, who won the Tampa Bay Derby (Gr 2, 8.5f) in March, was sent after the front-running Irish War Cry (Curlin) on the approach to the home straight, with the pair pulling clear of the remainder of the field. Irish War Cry began to tire inside the final furlong, and Tapwrit, who finished sixth in the Kentucky Derby (Gr 1, 10f) at his last start, swept through to win by two lengths, with Patch (Union Rags) a further five and three quarter lengths adrift in third. Tapit has sired 97 stakes winners overall and stands for a fee of US$300,000 at Gainesway Farm. Click here to view the race replay. Ascend Scores Upset In ManhattanAscend (5 g ex Ghost Dancing by Silver Ghost) scored an upset victory in the Manhattan Stakes (Gr 1, 10f) at Belmont on Saturday evening to provide Candy Ride (Ride The Rails) with his 65th stakes winner and 11th Grade / Group One winner. The Graham Motion-trained gelding was produced to lead in the home straight by Jose Ortiz but looked a sitting duck to the smooth travelling favourite Time Test (Dubawi). However, Time Test’s effort flattened out and Ascend ran on strongly to win by a length and a quarter, with Sadler’s Joy (Kitten’s Joy) a further neck behind in third place. Candy Ride stands at Lane’s End Farm in Kentucky for a fee of US$60,000. Click here to view the race replay.

Metropolitan To Mor SpiritThe Bob Baffert-trained Mor Spirit (4 r Eskendereya - Im A Dixie Girl by Dixie Union) ran out a wide margin winner of the Metropolitan Handicap (Gr 1, 8f) at Belmont on Saturday evening. The four-year-old ridgling, who was a Grade One winner as a two-year-old, raced up with the pace in the early stages under Mike Smith. He was produced to lead around two furlongs from home and, once asked to stretch by his rider, he drew clear in the closing stages

for an impressive success, beating Sharp Azteca (Freud) by six and a quarter lengths, with Tommy Macho (Macho Uno) a further three and a quarter lengths behind in third. Click here to view the race replay. Second Grade One Winner For First Defence The Chad Brown-trained and Juddmonte Farms-raced Antonoe (4 f ex Ixora by Dynaformer) won the Just A Game Stakes (Gr 1, 8f) at Belmont on Saturday evening to provide First Defence (Unbridled’s Song) with his second Grade One winner. The filly was given a cool ride by Javier Castellano, who sat last early before making his move towards the inside in the home straight. Antonoe picked up well under pressure to run down the front-running Sassy Little Lila (Artie Schiller) in the last strides to win by three quarters of a length, with Dickinson (Medaglia d’Oro) just a nose further behind in third. First Defence was sold to continue his stud career at Haif Stud in Saudi Arabia last year. Click here to view the race replay. Songbird Back With A WinMultiple Grade One-winning mare Songbird (4 f Medaglia d’Oro - Ivanavinalot by West Acre) made a winning reappearance in the Ogden Phipps Stakes (Gr 1, 8.5f) at Belmont on Saturday evening. The Jerry Hollendorfer-trained filly, who lost her unbeaten record when narrowly beaten into second in the Breeders’ Cup Distaff (Gr 1, 9f) in November, set the pace in the early stages but was headed by Paid Up Subscriber (Candy Ride) on the home turn. She battled back in determined fashion in the straight to win by a length, with Highway Star (Girolamo) a further two and a half lengths behind in third. Click here to view the race replay. Abel Tasman Backs Up Oaks VictoryThe Bob Baffert-trained Abel Tasman (3 f Quality Road - Vargas Girl by Deputy Minister) backed up her last start victory in the Kentucky Oaks (Gr 1, 9f) with success in the Acorn Stakes (Gr 1, 8f) at Belmont. The three-year-old, who is raced by a partnership of China Horse Club and Clearsky Farms, was dropped out at the tail of the field by Mike Smith in the early stages of the US$700,000 race. The filly made a taking, rapid move on the inside rounding the home

turn and ran on strongly in the straight to beat Salty (Quality Road) by a length, with Benner Island (Speightstown) a further four and a half lengths behind in third. Click here to view the race replay. American Anthem Wins Woody StephensAmerican Anthem (3 c Bodemeister - Indy's Windy by A.P. Indy) ran out a comfortable winner of the Woody Stephens Stakes (Gr 2, 7f) at Belmont on Saturday evening. The Bob Baffert-trained colt, who won the Lazaro Barrera Stakes (Gr 3, 7f) at Santa Anita at his last start, travelled strongly throughout in the hands of Mike Smith. He quickened clear in the straight in impressive style to beat Giuseppe The Great (Lookin At Lucky) by three and a quarter lengths, with Recruiting Ready (Algorithms) a further two and a half lengths behind in third. Click here to view the race replay. Brooklyn Invitational To War StoryThe Jorge Navarro-trained War Story (5 g Northern Afleet - Belle Watling by Pulpit) took out the Brooklyn Invitational Stakes (Gr 2, 12f) at Belmont on Saturday evening. The gelding raced in behind the front-running Tu Brutus (Scat Daddy) in the early stages of the Grade Two under Javier Castellano. He was produced to deliver his challenge on the inside at the entrance to the home straight and ran on strongly to beat Sunny Ridge (Holy Bull) by two and a half lengths, with Tu Brutus a further two lengths away in third. Click here to view the race replay. Grade Three Win For Disco PartnerDisco Partner (5 h Disco Rico - Lulu's Number by Numerous) came home strongly from off the pace to win the Jaipur Invitational Stakes (Gr 3, 6f) at Belmont on Saturday evening. The Christophe Clement-trained five-year-old was restrained towards the rear of the field by Irad Ortiz, who asked his mount to improve on the approach to the home straight. The entire enjoyed a dream run up the inside rail and picked up well in the closing stages to beat Green Mask (Mizzen Mast) by half a length, with the same distance back to Holding Gold (Lonhro) in third. Racing experience came to the fore when the well-hyped New Zealand-bred Mr Hanks (Showcasing) sprinted away

to an imposing win in the S$90,000 Inglis Ready2Race Stakes (1200m) on Sunday.

Though the son of Showcasing (Oasis Dream) was having his first start at Kranji, he came here with a promising record of two seconds (over 880 metres and 1100 meters) from four starts as Oscar Eight in New Zealand, but perhaps the one result that stood out was his seventh place behind Melody Belle (Commands) in last January’s Karaka Million (RL, 1200m) – credentials which in the end proved to be well worth their weight of gold in the fourth Leg of the Singapore Golden Horseshoe series.

Among his 11 opponents, only five knew

a little about the racing caper, with Auspicious Day (Showcasing) boasting the most mileage courtesy of his three runs, including a second place to Whistling Win (Golden Archer) in the second Leg at his last start.

But from the way Mr Hanks (Vlad Duric) cruised up effortlessly from his fourth spot in transit to clear out towards a most comprehensive four and a half length win, the contrast in early racing prowess between him and his rivals could not be starker.

Second to Yaya Papaya (Nadeem) in the third Leg on debut, the Ricardo Le Grange-trained Mokastar (Poet’s Voice) did his best to pull the ground off the runaway winner inside the last furlong, but the die had been already cast, and he had to settle for another runner-up spot.

As for Leslie Khoo’s Auspicious Day, he

continued his consistent form, making ground late to wind up in third place another length and a half away. The winning time was 1:10.04.

As its Hollywood-inspired name might give it away, Mr Hanks is raced by the Oscar Racing Stable (who have actually had two previous horses by the name of Hanks at Kranji), but his handler was not Laurie Laxon, Cliff Brown or Bruce Marsh, but James Peters.

The English trainer was rapt that he was able to saddle a first winner for the Singapore multiple-champion outfit headed by Mr Phua Chian Kin, hopeful it would mark the dawn of a successful partnership.

“The horse came here with strong form, including his Karaka Million race in New Zealand,” said Peters.

“He won very impressively today. He showed a good turn of foot when he let down, and found the line very strongly.

“He had a good gate (one) and Vlad (Duric) rode him very well. He looks the goods for the other two-year-old races (two Legs to go, including the Aushorse Golden Horseshoe over 1200 metres on 7 July).

“I currently have three to four races for the Oscar Racing Stable. It’s a great start and hopefully, I’ll have a few more.”

Duric said Mr Hanks was a quality juvenile who looked all set to have a bright future at Kranji as long as he keeps heading in the same direction.

“James had this race in mind for a while and he gave him the right prep,” said the leading Australian jockey.

“Once I pushed the button, he lengthened up like a smart horse. You could tell from the way he finished off that he was a very professional racehorse already.”

Lot 259 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale $1,400,000 I Am Invincible - Soorena colt Breeder: Gilgai FarmPurchaser: Ciaron Maher BloodstockVendor: Gilgai Farm

Kelly Skillecorn - Gilgai Farm “Rick bred and owned Soorena. She was a flying machine. She had one start,

Lee Hope took her to Echuca for a bet ($2.50 - $1.90) and she brained them. She came back to Gilgai for a short let up before going on to the Blue Diamond. She was turned out with one old nanny that unfortunately galloped on her hind leg and tore the tendon off the bone, whilst playing.

“Rick has always had great faith in her because he knew first hand of her ability. We have another I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit) colt foal from her this year and rather the chance of getting three I Am Invincible colts in a row, she will be mated to Sebring (More Than Ready) this season, which is the second most suitable mating for her. Interestingly, Soorena has had eight foals and all have been colts.

“The I Am Invincible colt that was sold to Ciaron Maher was always a nice horse. He was born at Segenhoe Stud and Peter O’Brien raved about him from day one. He came back to Gilgai when he was around two months old. Everyone who saw him throughout the year always sang his praises. Whether it was Simon Vivian, Tim Brown, Ciaron Maher, Gai Waterhouse, Robbie Griffiths or Peter Moody, they all wrapped him up.”

(AUS)).Margins: 0.1 lens, 1 len. Time: 57.26.

Analysis: Darren Weir-trained two-year-old filly Holy Light put up a good effort in beating older opposition at her second race start here. She was a bit slow to move, settled about sixth (between runners), behind a good tempo, before going deep at the home turn. She then took a while to wind up but kept running on and proved a bit too good in the closing stages to win narrowly but very well.
