FCLOA Newsletter Fall 2010

2010 has been a great year with lots of water in the lake combined with a lake maintenance crew (Jerry Walter, Clay Butler, and many other members) who have provided an easy to use recreational area and lots of fun for our members at the Park and Lake.

Our Park and Lake maintenance crew work very hard to keep our grounds usable and reasonably manicured. They start early in the spring/summer as soon as possible after rain subsides by first spraying weeds to control growth. Then comes the mowing: as the Park fenced section and Dam parcel must be mowed a minimum of 3 times in the spring and summer to abate weeds and keep them from taking over our Park. And that’s not all…our lake has an abundance of Milfoil and Pond Weed that would completely fill our lake if it were not for abatement methods such as spraying of “Reward” and weed cutting with a special mower. We really appreciate the efforts of our Lake Maintenance crew…be sure to thank them when you have a chance. We continue to look for more effective ways to control weeds to make the workload smaller and are currently researching pellets for the lake weed control.

Many of our residents have fun using the floating dock in our lake…except we find that the geese also love it and leave lots of unwanted feces on the dock. Your association is currently researching a product called “Goose Off” which we hope to implement for the purpose of keeping our dock much more usable by those who like to swim and boat.

Our upcoming general election will have an opportunity for our members to nominate candidates for the Lake and Park Manager. The Lake and Park Manager position is one of the most important and fulfilling positions on the board. If you or someone you know would be interested in volunteering for nomination, please make someone on the board aware. A Park and Lake Manager job description document is located on the fcloa.com website…just click on Association Docs, then Board of Directors Job Description and Lake/Park Manager responsibilities.

on September 30, 2010, we had a motion to increase our dues from $100 to $110 per year. The vote was split with 8 voting YES and 5 voting NO. In reviewing our By-Laws, It has come to our attention that any change in our Association dues requires a 2/3 vote of those members who chose to vote. So, because the vote for changing dues was not quite 2/3, we will continue to keep our dues at $100 a year at this time.

Increasing dues is never something that we look forward to and keeping dues as minimal as possible is our goal. However, the Dam inspection fees charged to us by the State of California continue to increase and there may come a time when a dues increase will be needed to cover the continued increase of costs. The FCLOA board is currently looking into possible loop holes which may help us to lower our fees, but even if this can be accomplished, it will take time.

On a fun note, next fall 2011, the Association will be sponsoring an October-Harvestfest in our community. We expect this new event to be a lot of fun with many different activities that will interest our whole community, i.e. music, games, food, and an opportunity for community members to share their hobbies, interests and personal endeavors. Please watch for upcoming information and participation opportunities!

Glad to be serving as your President,

Iona Merideth

October Harvestfest

Fall, 2011

A movement has begun in our neighborhood that you can be a part of. In regards to creating community, a team of people is growing who share common attitudes and values. Opportunities can be created for people who believe in youth and families, who focus on opportunities, and who desire positive outcomes that measurably strengthen our Arrowbee neighborhood. Whether you are a member of the Four Corner’s Land Owner’s Association or not, you are welcome. Build social fabric and transform community isolation

into connectedness and caring for the whole. Shift our conversations from the problems of

community to the possibility of community. Commit to create a future distinct from the past.

Together we’ll consider- Where do we want to go? What’s preventing us from getting there? What strategies can help us achieve our goals? How will we know we’re progressing? And what will help us sustain progress? We would like to schedule gatherings for 2011. All are welcome, anytime. Please contact Mindy Stock at 530-626-7388 ASAP to leave your name, phone number and if applicable, email address. You’ll be contacted soon.
