Charles Dickens begins his classic, A Tale of Two Cities, saying, “It was the best of times, it was the
worst of times.” This is not only a synopsis of the time before the French Revolution, it is a synopsis
of all history. Every time carries with it good and bad. The book of Genesis explains why this is the
case. Ever since sin entered the world, the best and the worst have locked horns. The book of
Genesis looks at the tension between the best and the worst and offers hope that the best is yet
to come.

Screening of “Kingdom Men Rising” with Breakfast “Bro”-ritos and Coffee
Hosted by the Travis Life Group
Kingdom Men Rising is a documentary film exploring what it means to be a real man in the midst of
cultural trends in which there is confusion about masculinity. The film takes a journey that challenges
men to rise above what we have become to lives of no more sitting on the sidelines, no more passivity,
and no more excuses.
The film draws from the experiences of author, pastor and speaker Dr. Tony Evans. Through the sto-
ries of several men, the film drives us toward God’s ultimate purpose for masculinity and design for
men. Featuring Grammy award winning entertainer Kirk Franklin, Heisman trophy winner Tim Brown,
former Dallas Cowboy quarterback Jon Kitna, Super Bowl winning coach Tony Dungy, NFL vice presi-
dent Troy Vincent, author Priscilla Shirer, and others, Kingdom Men Rising provides an honest portray-
al of today’s man that is countered by God’s original design.

Happy summer, everyone!
What an exciting time it is here at Fountain of Life Lutheran Church as we welcome our new Senior Pastor
Elliott Lutz! If you could not attend his Installation on June 9, it was a service filled with excitement and hope,
and with the blessings of many other LCMS pastors who have helped and served us as we waited on God's
timing to bring our new shepherd. We know that God has special plans for all of us together in worship, mis-
sion, and fellowship in the upcoming years. Welcome to Pastor, Katie, and Noel!
I was humbled to be elected Head Elder at our June Board of Elders meeting. I look forward to serving the
Elders, Pastor Lutz and the staff, the congregation, and God in this role. As always, if you have questions or
concerns regarding the faith and worship life of our church, prayer requests, or other needs, please contact
me or another Elder to help in whatever way we can.
We truly have a caring and loving community here at Fountain of Life, and we have been blessed greatly. As
we rejoice and embrace our new worship life, may we give all thanks and praise to the Lord who continues to
guide and sustain us!
God's blessings to you always!

Greetings FOL Family!
I hope these summer months find you enjoying some rest, relaxation, and a little fun along the way! If you are
traveling, I wish you safe journeys and a swift return home.
Many of you were able to attend the voters' meeting on June 2 where our nominees for both leadership
boards were affirmed. Heartfelt appreciation to those who have answered the call to serve in these capaci-
ties. BoSL would like to especially thank Michael Bell for his leadership over the last two years. You will be
missed, Michael!
This is an exciting time in the life of our church. On June 10 BoSL held its first meeting with Pastor Elliott in
attendance. We are thrilled to be working together with him in ministry, and can't wait to see the amazing
things God has is store for our church family.
Look for more news to come as we head into September and the beginning of the school year. In the mean-
time, enjoy the dog days of summer!
Yours in Christ,

Life Groups
Hello Fountain of Life Members and prospective members!
What a wonderful and exciting time to be worshiping at the Fountain.
We recently interviewed several of our members who are members of a
Life Group and asked the question "What is the most important part of
your Life Group for you personally?" One answer that came up several
times was I have been able to form deep caring friendships in the
group. Another was , "I am able to discuss difficult life issues and
Christian principles that I would be reluctant to bring up in a larger
gathering." Also it was mentioned that it is uplifting to see the familiar
faces in the Sanctuary on Sunday morning.
Bible study is an integral part of our Life Group sessions so it was
interesting to see the responses to the question.
Our hope is that you will consider becoming part of a Life Group or
invite someone if you have already connected.

important part of

Thank You! To all of the wonderful people at The Fountain,
I want to say THANK YOU! We have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support, prayers, and
good old fashioned southern hospitality that you have shown to our family as we have made the transi-
tion to Kernersville. This is such a wonderful community and it is already starting to feel like home.
We want you to know how much we appreciate all of your acts of kindness and the gifts that you have
given to us along the way. Thank you! Here’s to a wonderful future together!
- Pastor Elliott, Katie, and Noel
Installation Service
The Installation Service on June 9th was an incredibly meaningful event! Thank you to everyone who
attended, our guest pastors, the special events choir and children’s choir, and everyone who helped
with the reception. It was a beautiful way to begin our journey with Pastor Elliott!
Guest Pastor Thank You
The Elders, on behalf of the congregation, presented all Guest Pastors who served during our vacancy a
small token of our gratitude. A paperweight, with a sketch of Fountain of Life and a thank you card
from the congregation. Many of the Pastors were touched and expressed their appreciation, how
much they enjoyed becoming part of the Fountain of Life family, and share in our excitement for Pastor
Elliott’s arrival!
VBS
A special thank you to Heather Allison, Erica Keller, and the whole volunteer team who helped VBS be
a giant success! From the music, skits, snacks, and 100 happy preschool and elementary kids, all that
effort helped connect these kids (and their families) to Jesus, for eternity!

Summer is on the way, which means Vacation time!! Vacation time in our home meant increased visits to
friends and family. This is how I also approach our Visitation Ministry. I look at this as a time to increase
visitations. With school being out, and more people around home for the summer break, there is more
relaxation time to get together. You don’t need to be sick or in the hospital to receive a visit from me,
(although I do those visits as well).
On my visits, we pray together over any concerns/issues you request, discuss any questions you may have
about your spiritual needs and if you would like, I provide communion. What is spoken about during our
time together is confidential as well, between God, you and me.
Please include me in your “Vacation Time” this summer. Please do not hesitate to call and let me know if
you would like a visit, or if you are having any medical procedures done. I will come out to the hospital an-
ytime to pray with you and just visit. I look forward to hearing from you and visiting YOU! You can email
me or call me.

Being Safe: time we addressed locking your doors & windows at Home. Now it’s time to look at things
you can do to keep your family safe as you go about your daily lives.
Mindset: We always think we are safe in our own homes or at work and thus we tend to drop our
guard.
The fact is in that personal security is personal. Most people have the mindset that “It will never happen to
me.” “It didn’t happen to me yesterday, it didn’t happen today, and it won’t happen tomorrow.” This line
of thinking actually reinforces that mindset. Another false mindset is that “Someone else will handle it.
That’s what our first responders are for.” Don’t get caught up in the thought that if you are a victim in a
violent attack that the police will show up and save you. Most of the time it is all over before the police
arrive to save you. The mindset you need is “Personal security for my family is my responsibility.” We all
play an important part in keeping our families safe and secure. Pay attention to your surroundings. Your
eyes & ears are your first line of defense. We will look at “skills and confidence” next report.
Tip for July & August:
Don’t be complaisant in your safety plan. Trust your God given instincts. If your gut tells you something is
wrong – then pay attention and do what needs to be done, consider your options.
