This January, after a successful 30 years, the Boston Wine Festival launches the fourth decade as the nation’s longest running and most extensive wine and food pairing series. Chef Daniel Bruce, founder of the Boston Wine Festival, continues his renowned tradition of presenting exceptional wine dinners at the Boston Harbor Hotel. This season will include many first-time winery hosts, as well as returning top producers from around the world. The Boston Wine Festival is proud to present these legendary vintners at this year’s festival as part of the celebration.

The thirty-first season kicks off with the Grand Opening Reception on January 10th, 2020, showcasing many of the outstanding wines presented throughout the season. As a perfect start to celebrate the season, preview the offerings showcased over the upcoming months and return to enjoy the events that appeal to your findings.

Offering guests sensational dinners hosted by the world’s most renowned winemakers, the 2020 Boston Wine Festival presents a stellar lineup of wineries including Opus One, Elio Grasso, S.A. Prüm, Chappellet, Zenato and many more of the best wineries and top personalities from the world of wine.

The Festival’s very popular themed dinners continue with the Battle of the Cabernets, Meritage Madness, Old World/New World Pinot, Rising Stars Dinner, as well as Uncorked for a Cause – an evening partnering with Share our Strength to benefit the No Kid Hungry campaign. We welcome back long-time hosts including local wine expert, Howie Rubin as well as critic and writer, Matt Schaffer. For those interested in learning more about the winemaking process, we offer several instructive seminars. Receptions feature a wide array of wines in a walk-around format with delicious buffets.

Chef Bruce, who celebrates his thirty-first anniversary as Chef at the Boston Harbor Hotel, maintains his unique philosophy of matching dishes to wines by tasting the wine first and creating flavor profiles that enhance the entire dining experience. This approach is the inspiration behind Meritage, the hotel’s signature restaurant, which celebrates the Festival with its food and wine pairing concept year-round. Meritage has garnered accolades for its excellence in wine and food pairings with its unique vineyard-to-table concept. Meritage also features two premier private dining

Friday, January 10 Grand OpeninG receptiOn Reception, 7 p.m., the Wharf Room, $115 A Boston tradition and the cultural beginning of the New Year; celebrate the kick-off of the 31st anniversary of the Boston Wine Festival. Thursday, January 16 & Friday, January 17 Battle Of the caBs Dinner, 7 p.m., the Atlantic Room, $265 The Festival’s most coveted themed dinner continues. The Battle of the Cabernets series showcases Napa Valley’s stars, while a distinguished panel of cabernet experts leads us through a blind tasting. Experience the diversity of dishes Chef Daniel Bruce matches perfectly to these powerful wines, and vote for your favorite in this year’s “battle.”

wednesday, January 22 tOlaini Dinner, 7 p.m., the Atlantic Room, $175 Founded in the late 90’s by Pier Luigi Tolaini, this Tuscan winery practices sustainable farming to protect the environment. Believing in the strong connection between historical perspec-tives and modern techniques, Tolaini produces some of the most elegant DOCG wines in the Tuscan region as well as IGT wines from Bolgheri. Join Leah Tolaini Banville, second generation and daughter of founder and visionary Pier Luigi, as she presents an incredible lineup of these remarkable wines.

Thursday, January 23 Wine & sOul Dinner, 7 p.m., the Atlantic Room, $185 Husband-and-wife owners, Sandra Tavares DaSilva and Jorge Serodio Borges, founded this unique winery in 2001, which focuses on high quality terroir and fruit sources. Due to the steep grade of the slopes and the narrow width of the terraces, all grapes must be picked by hand. The fruit is foot-trodden and yields fine, silky tannins due to this gentle process resulting in some of the greatest varietals in Portugal’s best-known wine region, Douro Valley. Join Douro’s first female winemaker, Sandra Tavares as she hosts an incredible dinner featuring these magnificent wines, paired with an inspired menu from Chef Bruce.

Friday, January 24 san felice & campOGiOvanni Seminar and Dinner, 6:30 p.m. the Atlantic Room, $205 Dinner only, 7:30 p.m., $175 Tonight we are pleased to have Leonardo Bellaccini, the winemaker of San Felice, a premier Chianti producer located just outside of Sienna. Over the past 45 years, they have expanded their estate to include properties in Brunello and Bolgheri, enabling the winery to produce small quantities of wines in the three most prestigious Tuscan wine growing areas. Join us for a tour of Tuscany, beginning with an incredible seminar from Leonardo himself, followed by dinner with Italian-inspired cuisine.

wednesday, January 29 Old WOrld / neW WOrld pinOt Dinner, 7:00 p.m. the Atlantic Room, $195 Long-time Festival friend, host, and wine expert, Howie Rubin, returns to host an incredible evening featuring one of the world’s most renowned grape varietals – Pinot Noir. Tonight will feature many well-known pinot noirs from Europe and South Africa in a side-by-side comparison with their California and Oregon counterparts.

wednesday, January 30 GaBriel meffre Seminar and Dinner, 6:30 p.m. the Atlantic Room, $195 Dinner only, 7:30 p.m., $165 The story of the Gabriel Meffre Winery began in 1936, when Gabriel and his wife, both passionate about wine, created their ‘Négociant-Vinificateur’ business in Gigondas. As the first winery of the Rhône Valley to be recognized “Exemplary” in Sustainable Development and Corporate Responsibility, Gabriel Meffre has been established as a leading estate in this southern region of France. Hosts for the evening include experts, Guillaume Blisson and Anthony Taylor, who was the sommelier of the “21” Club when Chef Bruce was the chef. The two have remained close friends over the last three decades and the Boston Wine Festival is delighted to include Anthony and Guillaume in this season’s exceptional lineup.

Friday, January 31 châteauneuf-du-pape Dinner, 7 p.m., the Atlantic Room, $185 Once again, we are proud to present a selection of wines from one of the world’s most valued wine regions, Châteauneuf-du-Pape. This is an exclusive collection of high-quality, small, family-owned estates. Take this unique opportunity to enjoy one of the most popular theme dinners of the Festival for the past decade. We will focus on their French properties including Champagne, Legende in Bordeaux, Blason de L’Evangile in Pomerol, Moulin de Douhart in Pauillac and “R”de Rieussec in Sauternes. We are honored to have the winemaker of their Legendes Profile, Diane Flamand, join us as she presents this incredible lineup of Les Domaines Barons de Rothschild wines.

Friday,February 7 meritaGe madness Dinner, 7 p.m., the Atlantic Room, $275 Inspired by Daniel Bruce’s award-winning Meritage Restaurant + Wine Bar, we present Meritage Madness. This year we will taste many different vintages of these Bordeaux-style wines from Napa Valley. Participants will have the opportunity to taste contrasting styles, hear commentary from our panel of wine professionals and vote on your favorite Meritage of the night.

saTurday, February 8 risinG stars dinner Dinner, 7 p.m., the Atlantic Room, $165 One of the most popular events of the season, the Rising Stars Dinner, introduces new smaller wineries that are on their way to making their mark in the industry to Boston. Each year, Chef Bruce is excited to feature two wineries that he feels will become superstars. Tonight we welcome Jessica Link, owner of Linked Winery. She will also present Davis Estates, where she is the general manager. We will enjoy an incredible Cabernet Sauvignon from Linked Winery, alongside Davis Estates Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Petit Verdot and a rare Late Harvest Cabernet Franc. This is a great opportunity to experience diverse, upcoming wineries in one evening.

wednesday, February 12 adelsheim Dinner, 7 p.m., the Atlantic Room, $165 David Adelsheim is one of the pioneers of the Willamette Valley, having founded his winery with his wife Ginny in the Chehalem Mountains in 1971. Since then, they have passionately pursued benchmark wines that celebrate the bounty of this diverse region. David joins us tonight to share his passion and extensive knowledge of everything Willamette Valley and in particular their incredible Pinot Noirs.

Thursday, February 13 s.a. prüm Dinner, 7 p.m., the Atlantic Room, $165 Located on Wehlen-on-the-Mosel, one of the premier sites in all of Mosel, Prüm has been commercially producing wines for more than 200 years. Raimund Prüm took over the family business in 1971 and is renowned for producing some of the best Rieslings in the world. Raimund, an unmistakable personality, hosts this year’s dinner, which will showcase these beautiful age-worthy wines including Magnums from his highly touted Wehlener Sonnenuhr Old Vines Vineyards with multiple vintages.

Friday, February 14 revana family vineyards Dinner, 7 p.m., the Atlantic Room, $175 A doctor of the heart, Dr. Madaiah Revana is in pursuit of the best vineyard sites and winemaking practices throughout the world. He has planted vineyards in Napa Valley, Willamette Valley Oregon and Mendoza Argentina. Revana, Alexana and Corazon del Sol wineries respectively, which offer premium wines that capture the best of their unique terroir. These wines are made organically, with no additives. Respect for the integrity of the vineyard lead to balanced, complex and vibrant wines with depth and clarity.

He has received the coveted Tre Bicchiere award from Gambero Rosso. Elio’s son, Gianluca Grasso, will present these outstanding wines paired with Chef Bruce’s Northern Italian influenced menu.

Thursday, February 27 charles KruG Seminar and Dinner, 6:30 p.m. the Atlantic Room, $205 Dinner only, 7:30 p.m., $175 Napa Valley’s oldest wine estate established in 1861, offers exceptional wines, stunning design and illustrious heritage. Stewarded by the Mondavi family since 1943, we are excited to welcome third generation host, Peter Mondavi Jr. The seminar will showcase the annual Cabernet library release from Charles Krug, featuring wines from three decades, providing a rare window of access to this storied collection. Friday, February 28 uncOrKed fOr a cause Reception, 7 p.m., the Atlantic Room, $115 For the second consecutive year, the Boston Wine Festival partners with Share our Strength for an unforgettable evening supporting the No Kid Hungry campaign ending childhood hunger and poverty. This walk-around reception will treat you to the many different wines from around the world, while you indulge yourself with Chef Daniel Bruce’s lavishly prepared small plates. Featuring interactive ‘wine-wall’ and ‘wine-door’ auctions, guests have the opportunity to go home with their own incredible bottles of wine, while giving back to the community.

Thursday, march 5 GrOth Dinner, 7 p.m., the Atlantic Room, $175 This family-owned Winery founded in 1982 by Dennis and Judy Groth is located in the heart of Oakville across 165 acres of Napa’s valley floor. Groth’s commitment to produce award winning wines, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc from their estate has established the winery with a solid reputation as an outstanding producer. Daughter, Suzanne Groth, returns to host this impeccable dinner. Do not miss a remarkable opportunity to savor this line up and finish with their late harvest 2005 Sauvignon Blanc, available before only at the winery.

Friday, march 6 cain Winery Seminar and Dinner, 6:30 p.m., the Atlantic Room, $225 Dinner only, 7:30 p.m., $195 Situated in a truly spectacular location at the top of Spring Mountain, Cain’s vineyards face north, south, east and west. This mountain vineyard is dedicated to producing only three cabernet blends: Cain Cuvée, Cain Concept and Cain Five. The evening kicks off with a seminar lead by Chris Howell, winemaker and General Manager. Chris will celebrate the 30th anniversary of Cain Five with a vertical of selected years dating back to 1995.This unforgettable evening will be coupled with a spectacular dinner by Chef Bruce.

wednesday, march 11 chappellet Seminar and Dinner, 6:30 p.m. the Atlantic Room, $225 Dinner only, 7:30 p.m., $195 Chappellet is a true hillside winery, situated 1,200 feet above the floor of Napa Valley it is one of the first high-elevation vineyards, built on the philosophy of sustainable farming. Chappellet wines have been sought after by collectors for their intensity and longevity. Cyril Chappellet, the family’s second generation co-owner, begins the evening with a special seminar followed by a dinner. His portfolio of wines from Pritchard Hill showcases the great fruit extraction of these mountain wines.

Friday, march 13 finca allende Dinner, 7 p.m., the Atlantic Room, $185 Finca Allende means “Go Further” in Spanish, which is appropriate given the modern approach to Spanish winemaking including the use of French Oak for aging these wines. This winery, located in Torres, Spain, was founded in 1995 by owner/Winemaker Miguel Angel de Gregorio. His family has been involved in viticulture and winemaking since 1672. Finca Allende produces only 5 single-vineyard wines, all in the modern style which are some of the most highly sought-after Spanish wines in the world. We are very excited to welcome this winery for the first time this year.

wednesday, march 18 rOBert fOley vineyards Seminar and Dinner, 6:30 p.m. the Atlantic Room, $205 Dinner only, 7:30 p.m., $175 Acclaimed winemaker and accomplished musician, Robert Foley, was the founding winemaker at Pride Mountain Wines. In 1998, Bob and his wife, Kelly Kahoe, started their own boutique winery on Howell Mountain. They consistently produce highly regarded varietals ranging from lighter Rhone-style blends to their signature full-bodied reds. The evening will begin with a seminar showcasing a rare vertical of 06, 07, 08, 09 limited production Howell Mountain Cabernets. Dinner will follow and will include the “Griffin” as well as Merlot and Claret.

Thursday, march 19 silenus Dinner, 7 p.m., the Atlantic Room, $175 Silenus winery started by selling grapes to some of the top wineries of Napa, including Mondavi and Clos du Val. They quickly realized that their grapes were some of the most highly sought-after in the Valley and opened their own winery in Oak Knoll, producing the first Silenus vintage in 1980. This small producer makes Chardonnay, Merlot and Cabernet as well as small lots of various varietals.
