WHOCAN FOSTER?

The opportunity to be a foster parent is open to anyone age 18 or older. Foster homes require an annual home inspection. Renters, pet owners and homes with children are all welcome. Aurora Animal Services provides all necessary supplies and covers all medical care.

WHICHANIMALS ARE ELIGIBLE?

Medical cases - Often animals come into the Aurora Animal Shelter with broken limbs, treatable infections or long-term medical needs. Foster parents allow these animals to recover n a home until they are healthy and ready for adoption.

Underage cases - While Colorado law requires that all puppies and kittens be at least 8 weeks old before being adopted, Aurora Animal Services will take in animals of all ages, including very young kittens or puppies. These babies need a place to grow, play and socialize until they are big enough to go to a forever home.

Neonatal cases - Especially young animals have specific needs, including to be fed every 2-3 hours. Some animals may come into the shelter only a few days old and are in need of a lot of love and care.

WHOCAN VOLUNTEER?

Volunteering is open to anyone age 18 or older. Foster parents require an annual home inspection.

WHAT ANIMALS CANI FOSTER?

Medical cases - Many animals come into the shelter with broken limbs, treatable infections, or long-term medical needs that we are exploring diagnostics on.

Change of scenery cases - We see the most cats in the summer months. Especially when kittens are prevalent, we find that adult cats wait for longer periods of time waiting for adoption. Sometimes a change of scenery is all they need to keep from getting depressed. Being in a home also provides valuable information about their personalities to help find them a new family.

Underage cases - Colorado law requires that puppies and kittens are at least 8 weeks old and weigh at least 2 pounds before being adopted. When kittens and puppies don’t meet this requirement, we put them into foster home until they are big enough.

Neonatal cases - Orphan kittens without a mom need to be fed every 2-3 hours. Often they are only a few days old.
