adventures. The book was really good and very imaginative. My favourite part was when the Galitic Police came along and arrested the aliens. Dylan Sweet, age 10

“There was only orange juice in the fridge. Nothing else that you could put on cereal, unless you think that ketchup or mayonnaise or pickle juice would be nice on your toastios, which I do not, and neither does my little sister, although she has eaten some pretty weird things in her day, like mushrooms in chocolate.” This fantastic story features aliens, pirates, piranhas, a flying Stegosaurus, a great God of funny names, ponies, vampires, some dinosaur police, and last of all, an incredibly special milk carton. It all started off with a normal life for Dad, Mum and two ordinary children until Dad started his adventure by going to the corner shop to buy an all-ordinary carton of milk. A huge spaceship as bright as the sun flew directly above Dad out of nowhere. Suddenly Dad felt himself sucked up into the air to meet a disk full of “globby and slobby” aliens! He then starts a quest to get the milk back for his children in time for breakfast, only to meet loads more terrifying monsters and inhuman people along on his journey. This book is amazing because it shows how funny, scary and adventurous can be put together to make up a book. My favourite character is Dad because after every close shave he shows courage and manages to keep the milk in his hand. I recommend this book for people aged 7+ for boys and girls. It is one of the best I’ve read all this summer and I rate it four and three quarters out of five stars. Alexander Bisland, age 8

The book is about a family and the mum goes away for work for a few days and the dad has to look after the children. When the mum had gone, dad asked the children why they weren’t eating their breakfast. The children replied, “No milk,” so dad went to the corner shop and bought some. The children got fed up waiting so they did things to pass the time (e.g. read and watch TV). On the way home dad saw a silver disc flying in the sky and that is when his adventure began! In the story, he meets globby, green aliens, intergalactic police, Jungle Gods, pirates, Wumpires and a time travelling Stegosaurus. But without the milk he would not have completed his journey …

My favourite character is Splod the God because he looks funny! I recommend this book to 7+ who like adventure books. Also, I think the illustrations are supreme! Don’t forget to have your mobile phones ready because if you scan in the QR code on page 41, you can listen and watch Neil Gailman reading a few pages of the story. This is awesome! I give this book 100/100 stars Alex Crisp, age 8

This book is action-packed and hurtles from one disaster to another with barely a chance to catch your breath. The time travel blew my mind away but it was all hilarious. I found this book very funny and a little confusing, yet I was still able to remember everything that happened. This is the story of a dad's mis-adventures on his way home with a carton of milk for his children's breakfast. My favourite part was when he opens a time portal and ends up with two cartons! He encounters one disaster after another, but he is rescued from each one in the nick of time, and fortunately the milk is usually safe. But not always. I also love the wonderful illustrations throughout the story, and the marvellous portaits of all of the characters at the end, especially the wumpires. I will definitely recommend this book to my friends. Evie Young, age 8

Mum has gone away and the children are really grumpy that there is no milk and only orange juice to put on their cereal because their dad wasted it in tea. So he goes to get milk, but ends up going on an adventure through time instead, he meets Wumpires, a dinosaur in a hot air balloon, who thinks up weird names for things and he meets a god of short and silly names and a group of pirates and the galactic police. Then some aliens find him and fight over who should rule the earth, they want to redecorate the earth. Eventually he manages to get home and tell the children about his adventures, but they don't believe him, until they find a piece of pirate treasure!

My favourite character is Splod, the god of people with short, funny names. The book is very funny and silly. My favourite part is when the aliens fight with the dad and he beats them, with the help of the milk (and the galactic police!) Emma Bird, age 10 This book is about not having milk when you need it. Something that happens to everyone, but not everyone ends up going on a fantastic adventure when they are just trying to buy some milk! I really like this book because Neil Gaiman has taken a common problem and turned it into a fantastic adventure with dinosaurs, space ships, aliens and much more. I don't normally read comedy books but this book was really funny

and I really enjoyed it. My favourite part was when the Dad's hand reaches through the portal and steals the milk from himself in the past. My favourite characters are the ponies because they are clever and very girly at the same time. James Goodall, age 9

‘Fortunately The Milk’ by Neil Gaiman is probably the coolest story I have ever read. The story revolves around two children who run out of milk so their Dad has to go and get some milk and he gets picked up by globby green aliens. There is an accident and he meets pirates, vampires and even a god called Splod. The story starts to repeat itself all over again - will the children's Dad ever get home with the milk or will something terrible happen? I would recommend this story as it is a very funny read and unusual. There are great, amusing illustrations which add to the story. It is a quick and engaging read for newly confident readers.
