NAEMSE presents the EMS Instructor Course, which has been designed and developed by the same individuals who produced the DOT/NHTSA 2002 National Guidelines for Educating EMS Instructors. The NAEMSE Instructor Course represents the didactic component and practical application of the beginning education process to become an EMS instructor. The content of this 40-hour course (16 hours online) aligns the NAEMSE developed modules with the curriculum objectives of the 2002 National Guidelines and complies with EMS rules for lead instructors in more than 40 states, including Texas. The course content provides an introduction to a broad span of educational theory that is heavily reliant on brain-based learning and evidence-based best practices for all levels of experience as an EMS educator. Individuals who attend the entire course and pass the post-test will receive a Certificate of Course Completion from NAEMSE and will be eligible for Texas instructor certification. Continuing education hours have been applied for through NAEMSE, which is accredited by the Continuing Education Coordinating Board for Emergency Medical Services (CECBEMS). The Tactical Combat Casualty Care for Medical Personnel (TCCC-MP) course introduces evidence-based, life-saving techniques and strategies for providing the best trauma care in hostile environments that SWAT, EMS, and military personnel may find themselves in around the world. The program meets the guidelines established by the Committee on Tactical Combat Casualty Care (Co-TCCC). The course will include an airway lab (performed on tissue), wound packing with hemostatic agents, use of tourniquets, airway management, intravenous therapy (to include TXA and blood products), pain management and antibiotics, fracture management, burn management, tactics and more for medical personnel.
Any EMS practitioner called upon to respond to a mass casualty or active shooter event will benefit from this scenario-based, active course. Following this course, participants will be able to sit for the new Tactical Responder Certification or the Tactical Paramedic Certification from the International Board of Specialty Certification (IBSC) and the Board for Critical Care Transport Paramedic Certification. This 8-hour class will introduce participants to the fundamentals of performing basic and clinical research as well as literature reviews. The instructors will discuss interesting uses of widely available research tools and how to find and use some of the lesser-known resources. Hands-on experience in developing specific scientific-focused poster and oral presentations will be available. Critical Care Skills 2017: Procedural Anatomy Cadaver LabEarly rate $275; after 10/5/17 $330; Saturday, 11/18, 8:00 am–5:30 pm; lunch included; off-site (meet at Omni Fort Worth for 8:00 am bus transportation to UTSW anatomy facilities); CE: Preparatory. The Critical Care Skills course — also known as “The Procedural Anatomy Program” — is a nationally recognized offering, specifically focused on optimal resuscitation and emergent interventions. This program is a unique, hands-on experience that gracefully blends fresh human specimens, highly experienced professionals, and the most demanding procedures (with the right dose of reservation). The course is tightly orchestrated and designed to comprehensively dissect, explain, and train through: bleeding control, ventilation management (BLS, ALS and Surgical), vascular access (IV: peripheral and cut-down, IO, and central venous access), thoracic injury management (anterior and lateral needle decompression, finger thoracotomy, chest tube placement and pericardiocentesis), ultrasound assessment and usage, as well as fundamental suturing and more. Participants actively locate, visualize, mobilize and explore the freshly dissected anatomy of the neck, chest, abdomen and extremities to better appreciate the efficacy and impact our interventions have on the human body (while simultaneously defining the common medical and traumatic disease processes we encounter). This 8-hour course has been specifically designed with the single goal of improving indication recognition while simultaneously offering hands-on experience for “low frequency–high value” procedures. Suggested attire: scrubs/running shoes. Participants should not wear shorts or open toed shoes. Who should register for this exciting preconference class? Paramedics, nurses, physicians, and educators. This program is a hands-on effort involving human specimen - All PPE is provided. NOTE: This course involves a full day of active engagement and a tremendous amount of standing, moving and skills refinement. This program consistently receives the highest evaluation scores for content, instruction, and value. Do you have a designated infection control officer in your organization? This 8-hour course is designed to prepare the Infection Control Officer to fully meet the requirements for the position established under NFPA 1581, OSHA, and the Ryan White Law. The Ryan White Law states that each fire, EMS and law enforcement agency must have a designated officer to manage exposure issues for the department. The class will focus on legal and clinical issues, with an emphasis on implementation of the program, all taught by instructors with many years of experience in EMS. Learn how to make your drill or exercise more like the real deal! Spend the morning with a variety of moulage materials to create prefabricated realistic wounds to use in your exercises and drill scenarios. Working in a group setting, you’ll learn different techniques for creating prefabricated wounds ready for application. Graphic photos of both real and simulated injuries will help inspire your creativity and improve your understanding. You’ll spend the afternoon moulaging patients and staging the scene for different scenarios. (No latex products will be used in this class.) Friday Night Lights: On-Field Care of Potential Spine-Injured AthleteEarly rate: $125; after 10/5/17, $175 Sunday, 11/19, 1:30 pm–5:30 pm; Fort Worth Convention Center; CE: Trauma. On-field care of a spine-injured athlete requires teamwork and expediency in the proper removal of equipment to access the athlete’s airway and chest for resuscitation. Effective execution of skilled communication, decision-making and psycho-motor skills in a high stakes-low frequency emergency situation are vital to patient safety. This simulation provides an opportunity for healthcare providers to experience working as a team to gain access to the airway and chest while maintaining spinal stabilization in the athlete (high-fidelity manikin) wearing a football helmet, shoulder pads and other protective gear.
