Permanent Graduation RequirementsClasses of 2023 and Beyond Graduation Requirements
State law introduced new, permanent graduation requirements for students in the
in the class of 2023 and beyond. Students entering ninth grade after July 1,
2019, must meet the new requirements outlined in state law.

Students Cohorted2018+ May Use• What is a Cohort? Determined when enter 9th grade. Grad
requirements based on that entry date.
• Students in Class of 2018 and beyond may use these new permanent requirements but must gain all aspects of the new requirements including seals
• Class of 2020 ENDs the alternative pathway for assessment. Class of 2021-2022 have only the 3 Assessment Pathways: AIR, ACT, Industry Credentials. Class of 2023+ must use the new permanent requirements.

Second: Show CompetencyEarn Competency Score of 684 on both Algebra I and ELA 2(ELA 1 removed and Geometry pending removal with waiver from Feds; other AIR Tests are still
mandatory and show up in Readiness, the 3rd part of new graduation requirements as seals; Integrated
Math I is an acceptable replacement for Algebra I with same 684 competency score) OR
Complete 1 of 3 alternative ways: 1. Earn credit for one math and/or English course through CCP or
2. Demonstrate Career Experience and Technical Skill: Complete 2
demonstrations of competency through foundational and supporting
options (in table below) or
3. Enter a contract to enlist in the military upon graduation

Third: Show ReadinessStudent must earn 2 diploma seals (1 of which must be Ohio)
Ohio
• Military Enlistment Seal – under contract at time of graduation or JROTC
• Technology Seal – proficient+ on subject AP/IB test, B or higher in CCP class or,
complete a course offered by the school that meets Department guidelines
• Industry Recognized Credential – earn 12 point approved credential
• Citizenship Seal – proficient+ both American History and American Government
exam or, proficient+ on subject AP/IB test, or B or higher in CCP classes
• Ohio Means Jobs Readiness Seal – proof of employability skills with school, work,
and community consultation
• Seal of Biliteracy – proficiency on assessments in world language and English
• College Ready Seal – remediation free scores on ACT (Eng 18, Read 22, Math 22)
• Science Seal – proficient+ on Biology exam, proficient+ on subject AP/IB test, or B
or higher in CCP class
• Honors Diploma Seal – earn one of 6 Honors Diplomas
