The Art Show is here with our Silent Art Auction benefiting CHOP

May 2nd, 6:00-7:30 pm

But did you know…

From the work displayed at our art show and from other works created

throughout the year, we have the honor to select only 40 pieces of art to go to the

district art show.

The forty students we choose from this selection are creating art at an individual

superior level and should be highly regarded to receive such an honor.

The artworks for the District Art Show from all classes will be identified in this

year’s school art show with a special red tag.

You can show your support for the selected students by attending the District Art Show.

Opening night is Tuesday, May 28th from 7-9pm at Neshaminy High School,

Gym A……..The District Show continues until Thursday, May 30th.

Congratulations to all the students whose work has been displayed

for our school art show and congratulations to those students who have

been selected to represent our school in the District Art Show.

Emergency Relief Association of Lower Bucks County thanks Everitt

This year’s Operation Helping Hand food drive provided the Emergency Relief Association of Lower Bucks County (ERA) with many pounds of food. Thanks to the generosity of our students and their families, this donation will be used to feed families in need in the Lower Bucks County area.

Dear Parents/Guardians:

With the onset of warmer weather, I wanted to remind everyone of our dress code that was developed in accordance with our Policy No. 508. This policy states that student dress must “not endanger student or public health, not be disruptive to the educational process, and meet reasonable standards of appropriateness.”

Pupils are expected to be clean and well groomed in their appearance at all times. This policy was developed so that pupils avoid extremes in appearance that are disruptive or distracting and also to avoid dress or grooming that jeopardizes the health and/or safety of the pupil or other pupils.

Some of the seasonal articles and clothing that are prohibited in school are:

• Unsafe footwear, including but not limited to flip flops, slippers, platform shoes, or sneakers/shoes with attached wheels in the heel of the shoe.

• Short skirts, shorts, etc., that are overly revealing. • Suggestive clothing, including but not limited to tight fitting or transparent clothes, low-riding

pants, bare midriffs, tank tops, muscle shirts, shirts with very skinny shoulder straps, tube tops, pajamas, etc.

• Hats, caps, head coverings, sweat bands, bandanas, etc. These items, if worn to and from school, must be removed upon entering the building.

• Tee shirts and/or other articles of clothing that depict/promote/advertise any of the following: alcohol; drugs; violent themes/acts (ex: weapons/fighting/gangs); inappropriate language; inappropriate gestures.

Thank you for your fullest and anticipated cooperation and support in this regard. If you have any questions or concerns, please call me at 215-809-6320.

May’s “Takes Pride” theme is “dependability.” “Dependability” is the quality of

demonstrating reliability. A person who is dependable is one who others can count on for

their truthfulness and integrity. Individuals who demonstrate “dependability” have a

reputation of doing what they say they are going to do. They persist in projects and

responsibilities until the task or job is complete. This month, make a special effort to

practice “dependability.” Some ways you can practice “dependability” this month include:

meeting your curfew; turning in school projects by the due date; arriving to school each day

on time; and completing your chores at home before having to be reminded. When you gain

a reputation as someone others can rely upon, you earn their respect and confidence.

Attention Parents

Our “Lost and Found” bins are overflowing. We have made numerous announcements to the students to check this area for lost personal clothing. If your child has lost any items such as jackets, sweat shirts, etc., have them check to see if their lost item is here. Parents, you are also welcome to come and check for potential items that have been misplaced. We ask that you come after dismissal to do so. Items not claimed by Friday, May 3, 2013, will be donated to a local charity in need.

Attention Parents/Guardians

Are you concerned about the potential closing of elementary schools in Neshaminy?

There will be a PTO meeting on Monday, May 20, 2013 at 7pm.

An invitation has been given to members of our School Board to attend and address any questions or concerns you may have regarding the potential closing of elementary schools. Mr. Richie Webb, president, will be in attendance.

RAZ-Kids Parent University Alert!

RAZ-Kids is here! Up-coming workshops to inform parents about the program are scheduled for May 6th from 6:00-6:45pm and May 22nd from 11:30-12:15pm in the

Everitt computer lab. If you haven’t already heard, RAZ-Kids is a computer-based reading program and meant for home reading practice. The program can be used

anywhere there is internet access. Additionally, Raz-Kids is mobile.

Give your kids independence and ownership! They can access the site at home or at

school, choose books from the virtual bookroom, decide on their reading, pace, and even record themselves reading. Students can improve their reading skills by:

• Listening for modeled fluency

• Reading for practice

• Recording their reading

• Checking comprehension with quizzes

• Students log in to get books and quizzes assigned by their

teachers.

Raz-Kids.com gives you hundreds of interactive, leveled books spanning 27 levels of

difficulty, covering a wide range of subjects. In addition to engaging kids at their reading level and in their area of interest, this award-winning student-centric site

gives kids 24/7 Web access to the practice they need to become better, more confident readers. At the same time, teachers can customize assignments, view

reports, and track student progress every step of the way. Don’t miss this opportunity to support your youngster’s at-home reading practice!

Everitt Competes at the Bucks County Reading Olympics!

On the evening of April 24th

, two teams from Samuel Everitt Elementary

School, comprised of 4th

and 5th

graders, competed in the Bucks County

Reading Olympics. Both teams were red ribbon winners! The Bucks County

Reading Olympics inspires kids to become lifelong readers. Since 1993, the

Reading Olympics has been motivating students in Bucks County to read and

discuss books. The purpose of this event is to encourage children to read more

than they currently do, to read a greater variety of books, and to enjoy the

excitement of reading and talking about books. The team format encourages

students to share the challenge of reading the selection of books with their

friends.

During the competition evening, all teams participate in three rounds of

questioning. At the culmination of the event, all students receive a ribbon,

determined by the number of points their team earned during the evening.

More than 700 volunteers work as moderators, scorekeepers and team leaders

during the competition. Everitt teacher volunteers were Miss McCard, Title I

reading specialist and Mrs. Sophy, school counselor. This year teams were

coached and coordinated by Ms. Story, librarian, Ms. Maurizi, literacy

specialist, and Mrs. Stahl, academic coach. This collaboration and cooperation

among so many individuals is amazing. Librarians, teachers, parents, students,

and district staff all contribute to making this event a success. We at Samuel

Everitt are very proud of our Reading Olympics team members and the spirit

of collaboration that this event has inspired.
