    PART IV.

    THE STANDARD REMEDIES

    AND PROPRIETARY MEDICINES.

The following formulas are designed for making a complete line ofStandard Proprietary Remedies, which may be prepared and put up bydruggists, or oth ers, for loca l tr a de or for th e ma rket.

I t is well known to al l who are conversant with the business that themaking of Proprietary or "Patent" Medicines requires no knowledge norfacil i t ies which are not ready at hand or readily obtainable by thea vera ge druggis t ,

With reliable formulas and outfits of wrappers, cartoons, and labels, which may now be had specially designed for the purpose, druggistsma y prepa re a nd put u p a line of P roprieta ry m edicines or a rt icles, suchas they may select , wi th but a s l ight outlay and with an abundantrewa rd in the w a y of profits .

I t is needless to urge the advantages to druggists of putting up andfurnishing, a s far a s is possible, th eir ow n " P a tent " Medicines in pla ce ofmanufacturers. The profit of several hundred per cent. , the reputationwhich naturally comes of putting before the people their ownpreparations, the constantly increasing trade in this l ine, and thesatisfaction of furnishing reliable articles worth the money, should beinducement enough for any enterprising druggist to make the attemptto run a line of his ow n prepa ra tions.

The formulas which follow in this department are mainly original, andintended to make preparations similar to those which have been bestreceived or which possess the greatest merit. They are not, however, given a s t he exa ct formula s of pa rticula r proprieta ry prepara tions nowin the ma rket or ma de by a ny par t icular ma nufacturer .

Some formulas, not original, for old and well-known preparations, arealso given as selected from the best authorities. Besides the formulasgiven in this section, many others that may be put up as proprietaryremedies are given in various departments of this work, and may befound by referring t o t he index.
