Posted on January 13, 2016
Chapter B
In my last chapter I spoke about the high costs of lifestyle blogging that we deal with everyday.
Fortunately, the blogging industry has evolved to standards that seem promising for a payback. Not the kinds that
pay for your movie or popcorn though!
Earning enough to make a living and putting back all the money spent can be tricky. Maybe I have a formula for
you Yay
And its called Cost of Blogpost {COB}

Yearly investment on my Blog = Rs. 5,00,000
Number of sponsored posts I am planning to do this year = 20 (Variable)
Profits I want to earn per post = Rs. 15,000 (Variable)
Total profit Margin = 15,000 * 20 = 3,00,000
COB= Yearly Investments + Total Profit Margin / Number ofsponsored posts I am planning to do this year
COB = 5,00,000 + 3,00,000 / 20 = Rs. 40,000
Yes yes, your profit margins, nos. of projects can definitely differ in numbers.
What should my Profit Margin be?
Profit margins are subject to change. Change is subject to popularity.
A little competitor analysis won’t hurt. Companies are always competing on profit margins and those are neck to
neck. Fellow bloggers, friends in the community or even a little poking might help.
I will help you with a breakdown on investments by a few top bloggers in the industry. This will definitely give you
a little guidance.
How many projects should I take up?
Taking up projects might seem easy but these are what you should really be careful about. Collaborations can
make or break your blog.
The right type of collaboration, and the way you deal with it on the blogpost will make a world of a difference for
your reader and the way they look at you.
I know I promised to give you some handy tips on the kind of projects you should take up, but this was more
important. My next chapter will only and only be about Collabs. Untill then, get your formula sorted.

Couldn’t agree, but my problem is ‘How do I account for the time lost in following up with PRs for the
payments’. I’m supposed to receive quite a huge number from various Brands, which has gone due
since 2 years. Great Post Nonethless.

Hey,
Yes that is a problem. So, my suggestion would be to play the guess game. Some brands and
agencies you would have already worked with. Some not. You would have a track record for
those. Based on that calculate the nos. of days you think it would be to fetch your payment
and add the interest accordingly at the very beginning. For newer ones, trial and error would
work.
2 years is definitely something unacceptable. Why don’t you come out in the open and seek
help from media?
regards,
Apeksha
