The Program
Sandgate District State High
School in conjunction with
Formula Student™ will be offering
their students the opportunity to
participate in the Formula High
School™ program starting in 2016.
This exciting program will develop
underpinning skills and
knowledge in Sandgate DSHS
students looking towards an OP
outcome and further studies in
the engineering field.
Background
The Formula High School™
program has similarities to
Formula SAE program, a project
utilised by Australia’s leading
universities to develop work
ready skills in university students.
Formula SAE is a design
development program where
undergraduate students design
and build a race vehicle.
Formula Student
Formula High School develops the
building skills up-front, giving
students an advantage not only in
the build stage but also giving
students the edge to design for
manufacture.
Are you looking for an exciting
way to learn practical engineering
skills and practices to underpin
your future learning?
Would you like to learn these
skills while building a race car!!!
Improve your:
ability to apply knowledge of
basic science and engineering
fundamentals
technical competence
time management
leadership & communication
when manufacturing suspension,
building a Space Frame Chassis
and much more!
Delivery
The Formula High School™
program has been developed by
Formula student™ for students to
gain work ready outcomes while
they complete a MEM20413
Certificate II in Engineering
Pathways.
The program was developed to be
specifically project-based, utilising
online instruction combined with
face-to-face practical facilitation.
It is specifically designed to
encourage students to want to
learn and assist them in tacitly
developing work ready skills.
It is important to note that while
the students are engaged in
learning to build a race vehicle,
the program is not “about”
motorsport. Motorsport is used
to get students interested in
learning. You could say our
students are “racing to learn”.
Not just for the Boys
Engineering isn’t just for the boys.
Formula Student™ encourages
young women to become
involved in engineering. This is a
great opportunity to gain
experience in engineering and
discover pathways to a fulfilling
career in an inclusive program
encouraging participation from
both young men and women. You
may be surprised how much fun
and how rewarding it can be!
Formula High School™ Program
Workplace Simulation
Formula Student™
implements MRP software
(material resource planning)
Underpinning Formula Student™
programs is the use of industry
standard practices and
methodologies. We use MRP (material
requirements planning) software to
reinforce the Simulated Workshop
experience and develop work ready
skills in our students.
The use of MRP software
assists us in tracking student activities
while assigning tasks to students with
the use of job cards, just like in
industry. MRP software also allows us
to track time spent on tasks and
compare to suggested times and
provide feedback to student.
With training carried out in a
Simulated Workshop Environment,
you not only learn practical skills but
also prepare yourself for work.
Formula Student™ programs develop
additional knowledge such as:
Understanding Job Cards
Learning about quality assurance
Project work
Working within a team environment
Who you are as an “internal
customer” and who are your internal
customers.
And much more!
Its, just like being in industry.
Not just engineering skills
While the MEM20413 Certificate II in
Engineering Pathways is an
engineering qualification, the work
ready skills and outcomes developed
throughout the course fit a range of
occupations providing program
participants a range of general work
ready knowledge and learning along
with team-building skills and much
more.
Enrol early so you don’t
miss out
Are you: wanting an OP pathway
