The format of BIG BROTHER: not only a text, but a NETWORK OF

TEXTS, a MACROTEXT• Television: daily and weekly programs

• Internet: big brother’s website (webcam 24 hours per day), fan’s website and blogs

• Press: gossip magazines

• Other: merchandising (clothes, accessories)

So the concept of “only one text” is not sufficient anymore and must be replaced with something different.

FORMS OF REPLICABILITY

There is something that is repeated, replicated according to the medium, to the person is going to use the text and also to the part of the day is going to put.

There is a matrix using for all these texts in many different way:

FORMS OF REPLICABILITY

• Diacronic version of a text: REMAKE (Robin Hood at the cinema, Beverly Hills 90210 at the television)

• Intermedial translation (Resident Evil: from a videogame to a movie)

• Fiction serialy: repetition of a narrative scheme (Lost, ER, Heroes)

• Adapatation of a format according to the society and to the culture of the country (Big Brother, Who Wants to be a Millionaire?)

• Quotation (The Dreamers, Scary Movie, Shrek)

FORMS OF REPLICABILITYIn my opinion, these are all forms of replicability made upon practices of reformulation, recombination and translation.

All these kind of texts made something like a historical database, an archive or libraries of memories.

WHY I CHOSE REPLICABILITY

Because it refers to:• The Benjamin concept of technical

reproducibility: a change of perception when the unicity is overcome by the reproduction

• The Bolter&Grusin concept of remediation: re-use old and new media (complementary logic of immediacy and ipermediality)

WHY I CHOSE REPLICABILITY

Replicability is the relation that unify every kind of texts in a continuum that starts from the identical reproduction and ends with a text that is not recognized.

In these continuum we can find every kind of texts related not in a hierarchy way.

PHILOSOPHICAL POINT OF VIEW

In my opinion there is not hierarchy because in this macrotext is impossible to find the original text written by the first author.

Example: The Bible (different level according to the different authors that wrote it)

My personal vision is also philosophically near to:• Vico (“corsi e ricorsi storici”)• Deleuze (“repetition: singolarity vs generality”)• Deridda (“Ecriture et difference”)• Focault (“Archeology of Knowledge”)

CONCLUSION

What I’ve in my mind is something like an enciclopedian way of collecting texts, an archeology of knowledge where texts are replicated in different way according to the point of views and to the level of pertinence.
