Assessing Serving - Pentecost

• This term, the formally assessed theme is the CHRISTIAN LIVING THEME Giving – Lent/Easter

• We will be formally assessing AT1 – LEARNING ABOUT RELIGION Strand (iii). The children may be informally assessed against the other strands.

• Each year group will assess from an activity taken from a Learning Focus in Reveal.

• The activities are listed over the next few slides.• When planning please leave this task out. • Please teach all of ‘Explore’, ‘Reveal’ (but don’t use the

task identified for the formal assessment) then, after ‘Remember’, please formally assess using the activities indicated.

• This enables the children to have had opportunity to work through the topic in full to inform their assessment.

Early Years: Based on Focus Week 2, page 134, Activity 6. (Refer to Church’s Story 1 pages 42-43)• Scribe onto ‘cut-out eggs’ ways in which the pupils have

grown during Lent. Pupils can decorate these and hang on the Lenten tree. (Refer to Background Notes)

• The pupils with adult directed support will begin to recognise ways in which people celebrate Lent and Easter.

Year 1: Based on Learning Focus 4, page 136, Activity 6

Invite the pupils to produce a simple poster/guide, (based on LF2 and 4) which illustrates and describes some of the ways in which Christians serve and do things for other people in Lent.

• The pupils will recognise some of the ways in which Christians serve and do things for other people in Lent. (Level 1)

• The pupils will describe some of the ways in which Christians serve and do things for other people in Lent. (Level 2)

• The pupils will give further reasons for some of the ways/actions (which they have described) in which Christians serve and do things for other people in Lent. (Level 3)

• Pupils choose from a bank of words and actions to show that they recognise how we serve and do things for other people in Lent. (Level 1).

• Invite the pupils to produce a simple poster which illustrates and describes some of the ways in which Christians serve and do things for other people in Lent. (Level 2).

• Pupils need to give further reasons for the ways/actions they have described. (Level 3).

Pupils at Level 2 should describe how because of their religion Christians live out their lives. To achieve Level 3, the pupil needs to describe and give further reasons for how Christians live out their lives.

At Level 1 the pupils can recognise that because of their religion ‘Christians’ act in a particular way.

Within Learning Focus 1 and 2 the pupils learn about the ways in which we can be giving during lent. Following Learning Focus 3, invite the pupils to use Lenten signs and symbols to make a Lenten promise and design a plan about how they will achieve this.

Using Church’s Story 3 (pages 96 and 98) and the Background notes design a guide/leaflet/information sheet entitled ‘Why Lent is important to Christians’, outlining what we do during Lent, why we do this and why it is an important time for Christians.

• Pupils recognise some of the actions of Christians because of their belief in the Easter story. (Level 1)

• Pupils describe some of the actions of Christians because of their belief in the Easter story. (Level 2)

• Pupils give reasons some of the actions of Christians because of their belief in the Easter story. (Level 3)

• Pupils show an understanding of a greater range of sources to the lives of people whose life has been shaped by their belief. (Level 4)

notes design a guide/leaflet/information sheet entitled ‘Lent: a time to die in order to live new life’. The pupil would draw upon a range of sources including scripture, hymns, prayers, ritual and the lives of Christians whose lives are shaped by this belief.
