Mission Stop Dengue: Stakeholder’s Meeting
World Health Day: April 7, 2017
Auditorium, Medanta - The Medicity, Gurugram, Haryana
Dengue is a major public-health concern in the National Capital region with increasing number of cases being
reported every year. It is the most rapidly spreading mosquito-borne viral disease, with a 30-fold increase in
global incidence over the past 50 years. The National Capital region falls in highly suitable climate for Dengue
propagation and thus the highest Dengue risk.
The Mission Stop Dengue is a multi-stakeholder effort initiated by Dr Naresh Trehan, MIER and the Medanta
hospital with the civic administration, research teams and the public to reverse this trend of growing number
of Dengue cases in May 2016. (http://missionstopdengue.in/)
In this regard a stakeholder meeting was held on April 7, 2017 (the World Health Day) at the auditorium
Medanta the Medicity, at which the civic administration, key opinion leaders, School and College
administration along with RWA leadership, CSR stakeholders and the media participated to chalk out a
strategy to beat Dengue.
Dr Sushila Kataria (Director, Medicine Medanta the Medicity) welcomed all the delegates and Dr Shubhank
Singh (Project lead, public health initiatives, Medanta the Medicity) shared a small update and video on the
journey of the Mission Stop Dengue since its inception in 2016. Dr Geetha Krishnan (Director Ayurveda and

Integrative Medicine, Medanta the Medicity) presented the various plants and herbs that can be used in the
prevention of the breeding of the mosquitoes and individual protection.
Dr Pooja Sharma (Senior Scientist, Clinical Research, Medanta the Medicity) and Mr Vaibhav Khurana
(Corporate office, Medanta the Medicity) presented the three pronged strategy of the mission -2017 along
with the proposed geotagging of cases.
1. Dengue prevention – by creating awareness and sanitation drives, effective vector control
measures to reduce Dengue transmission. Special advocacy and awareness campaigns targeting water
and sanitation and related infrastructure and working with sectors involved in developing products for
Dengue prevention and control
2. Improved outbreak prediction – by coordinated epidemiological and entomological
surveillance, deploying locally-adapted vector control measures, including effective urban and
household water management; and through communication to achieve behavioural outcomes.
3. Early management and tertiary prevention – by use of public information materials to help
families recognize the early warning signs of severe dengue so they seek medical care promptly. The
program aims towards creating Dengue hotlines and first response fever vans and thus better clinical
management involving early diagnosis and rehydration.
Mr Vinay Pratap Singh, ADC Gurugram presented his vision for Dengue control and promised all support to
this multi-stakeholder effort.
