Hidden Heritage Cuningar Loop is part of Glasgow’s history. From 1810 to 1860 reservoirs here provided water to the whole of Glasgow. The site was then used for quarrying and mining. In the 1960s, it became a landfill site for rubble from the Gorbals’ demolition. Look out for the Cuningar Stones, a public art project by Glasgow based artist James Winnett. The stones reflect the history of the site and local area. Don’t miss the spectacular ‘Evolve’ sculpture, created by Glasgow-born artist Rob Mulholland. It was inspired by the ongoing change at Cuningar, from abandoned landfill site to a wonderful woodland park. The Bees and the Birds Cuningar Loop is a haven for wildlife. Bats and butterflies, bees and bullfinches all thrive here. To make the area even better for wildlife, we’ve planted 15,000 trees including native oaks and birches.
