The Ford India Private Limited (FIPL) has two SUVs in their Indian

portfolio; the 5-seater crossover Eco Sport and the 7-seater SUV the

Endeavour. The mini SUV Eco Sport is the most popular Ford vehicle in

the Indian market. The Ford Endeavour is one of the bigger SUVs

available in India. Though launched in 2003 the sales figures of the

Endeavour are not very promising. The FIPL plans to refresh the model.

A new model has been showcased in April 2015. The launching is

expected in September 2015.

The Ford Endeavour is presently available in 2 automatic variants and

one manual variant, all in diesel. The variants are priced Rupees 22.16

to 25.67 lakh. 2.5 L 4x2 MT and 3.0 L 4x2 AT variants have two wheel

drive and the top 3.0 L 4x4 variant has all wheel drive. The Ford

Endeavour comes in colors of panther black, sea grey, moon dust silver

and diamond white.

The Endeavour with box type construction has a masculine front fascia

and a massive road presence. The wrap around head lamps, chrome

radiator grille, fog lamps beneath the head lamps, aluminum side

stepper, silver roof rails, grab type chrome door handles and a lockable

spare wheel cover are the features on the body. Optional fittings like

roof rail tray, nudge bar, rear spoiler, chrome exhaust pipe and fifth

mirror are also available. Side claddings are provided for top 2

variants.

The cabin of the Endeavour is spacious with 3 rows of seats, the third

being fully foldable and the middle row 50:50 split. The basic features

include 2 dual air bags, ABS, EBD, a manual AC, tilt and powerful

steering, leather seats, power windows, leather wrapped steering

wheel, electrical body colored ORVMs with turn indicators and a 2 Din

music system. The Auto variants have 4 air bags. The 4x4 AT variant

has touch screen controls, a GPS navigation system and Bluetooth

connectivity for telephony.

The Endeavour 2.5 L MT is powered by a 2499 cc, 141 bhp and 330 NM

torque diesel engine giving mileages of 13.1 kmpl. The 3.0 L AT variants

have 2953 cc, 154 bhp and 380 NM torque engines with mileages of

11.4 kmpl. The manual variant takes 16.1 sec for 0 to 100 kmph

acceleration and the top speed is 137 kmph. The auto variants take

14.3 sec for the same acceleration and the top speed is 144 kmph.

The dimensions of the Endeavour are 5060 mm length, 2860 mm wheel

base and 210 mm ground clearance.

Powerful engines and the loaded cabin features are the plus points of

the Endeavour. The competition comes from the likes of the Tata

Safari Storme, the Chevrolet Captiva and the Toyota Fortuner. Then
