Background

Hayman Reese has advised all customers of the potential issues regarding the fitting of

02848RW/02866RW/02905RW Ranger/BT 50 (10/2011 – 08/2015) Series 1 Towbars to the

current PX series II/BT50 UR (series II) vehicle variants from 08/2015 on.

(Refer Hayman Reese TB_0007 (Nov 2015) for further details if required.

Explanatory notes

The introduced changes to the Ford/Mazda series II wiring require the fitting of a vehicle

specific ECU to avoid any potential issues with vehicle fault codes or wiring.

For instances where any of the above part numbers have been fitted to any Series II Ranger

or BT50 vehicle variant, Hayman Reese recommend the immediate fitment of HR part #

04916WP using the below fitting instruction.

04916WP includes the correct ECU and power harness, reuse of the vehicle wiring tail will be

required.

PLEASE ENSURE THAT INSTRUCTIONS ARE UNDERSTOOD PRIOR TO FITMENT

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

1. At the rear of the vehicle, locate the 100713-WLharness blue connector (1).

2. Locate the label (2) near the blue connector andcut the blue connector (1) off at the label (2).

5. Locate the 100713-WL harness (1) where the blueconnector was cut off and solder the WHITE wire (2) tothe 04916WP harness WHITE wire (2) with the ringterminal.

Note: Leave enough length on the ringterminal WHITE wire (2) to allow for groundinglater on.

3. Locate the 04916WP harness wires with the brassferrules (1) and cut the brass ferrules off theharness wires (2).

4. Solder the cut off blue connector wires (2) onto thecut 04916P wires (2) by matching the harnesscolours together.

7. In the engine bay, route the supplied powerharness (1) down towards the RHS of the vehicleunder carriage. Do not connect the powerharness ring terminal to the battery until theend of fitment.

Note: Both 100713-WL and 04916WP must beconnected to the vehicle battery.

8. From underneath the vehicle, route the powerharness (1) along the LHS of the chassis railtowards the rear of the vehicle. Ensure that thepower harness is secured with cable ties (notsupplied).

Note: When routing any harnessesunderneath the vehicle, ensure to avoid allmoving parts, sources of heat and sharpobjects.

6. Locate the 100713-WL harness (1) where the blueconnector was cut off and solder the harness wires (2)to the 04916WP bare wires (3) following the tablebelow:

9. Connect the power harness 1-way male connector(1) to the power harness 1-way female connector(2).

10. Connect the trailer patch ECU connector (1) to theECU (P/No: WLT030) (2).

11. Using a cleaning wipe (not supplied) clean the areaon the vehicle rear interior sheet metal (3).Remove the ECU backing tape and secure theECU (2) onto the vehicle. Ensure the ECU ismounted pointing downwards.

12. Secure the trailer patch ground ring terminal (4) toa suitable location on the vehicle chassis rail usinga tek screw (not supplied). 3

13. Secure the engine bay power harness ringterminal (from both 100713-WL and 04916WPkits) (1) onto the battery positive terminal (2).

14. Test the trailer wiring harness function using a lightboard or multi-meter.

15. Secure all harnesses using cable ties (notsupplied).

16. Re-fit all removed parts and secure all fasteners,ensuring there are no squeaks or rattles.

17. Place the fitting instructions in the glove box afterfitment.
