Barrier PlanterTurn our most popular conventional planters into a security barrier with the Tournesol Siteworks jersey barrier form. It fits inside round, square or rectangular planter collections to prevent unwanted vehicle access for any hardened space. The form is available with or without a premade rebar barrier cage. The form may be either anchored into concrete below (for additional security) or stand alone. When ordered together, the lightweight GFRC planters are shipped with a form and steel rebar cage. Prepare the planter on-site, then fill the form with ready-mix concrete, fill with soil then plant to create a finished product. Barrier Planters• Allow an actual increase in weight, over precast concrete planters, because of the additional concrete mass hidden in the planter. The hidden barrier adds approximately 500 lbs. per linear foot. • Provide additional protection from larger vehicles. Because the barrier diverts a crashing vehicle up into the air, rather than just resisting the force of impact, it enhances security performance, adds mass and force protection. • Reduce freight costs, because mass and weight (in the form of inexpensive ready-mix concrete) is added locally. Our lightweight GFRC planters are shipped with pre-engineered forms and a steel cage, and ready-mix is added on-site.• Lightweight GFRC planters can be placed by hand or with light material handling equipment, saving time and expense associated with heavier equipment for conventional precast concrete products.• Barrier Planters are permanent once the ready-mix concrete has been poured. All of our standard colors and finishes are cast into the planter at our facility; drain holes are required.

AnchoredThe Barrier Planter can easily be upgraded to an enhanced barrier by simply anchoring the rebar cage into the supporting concrete slab. The anchoring dowels are sunk into the slab and then the rebar cage is attached to the dowels by “tying” them together with wire, similar to the rebar cage assembly. For example, a ¾” dia, grade 60 steel reinforcing dowel adds an additional 10,000 lbs. of resistance every 12”. With 1¼” dia. dowel, the resistance increases to 30,000 lbs. every 26”.

Magnum PlantersFor higher level protection than our conventional planters with barrier forms, turn to our Magnum Planter - the strongest barrier Tournesol Siteworks offers. This barrier profile has been tested to stop a 15,000 lb. vehicle moving at 50 mph. The Magnum Planter is made of GFRC light-weight concrete, embedded in the ground with rebar. After the rebar is inserted, the Magnum Planter is filled with soil and ready-mix concrete, absorbing a greater amount of force upon impact. They typically measure 12’ in length, but others lengths are available upon request; please contact your sales representative for details.

Bollards

Stonewear bollards and bollard covers are durable, lightweight, hollow structures suitable for decorative use where movement control is required. Some designs may be used as decorative covers for ugly steel pipe bollards.

Mounting Options for Bollards1) Mounting for decorative and pedestrian uses: This is most easily accomplished with a urethane-based permanent adhesive. The adhesive has approximately 150 pounds of holding strength per square inch so, in most cases, several dabs around the perimeter is adequate. The adhesive approach has the advantage of being a blind fastening system.

2) Mounting for medium-security locations, covering pipe bollards: Cover a 6” diameter steel pipe anchored in concrete. Use urethane-based permanent adhesive to seal the bollard cover to the surface. 3) Mounting for high-security locations, maximum stopping power:The Department of Defense Anti-Ram Vehicle Barriers ASTM F2656 Standard includes the ability to stop a 4,500 lb. vehicle moving at 35 mph. The standard 8” dia. x 1/2” wall thickness steel pipe, anchored 4’ in concrete, filled with concrete 3’ high is designed to meet the ASTM F2656. Cover with high-security bollard cover, use urethane-based permanent adhesive to seal the bollard cover to the surface.

Optional: Removable bollards with various sizes of steel pipe are available on request. If desired, they can also be supplied with plates at ground level allowing a padlock or similar device to secure the removable bollard. Larger pipes require material handling equipment to move and store. For large holes, lightweight cast plugs can be supplied.
