Activity 1 - LO - I can write a prediction

Nevertell text example

Task A: looking at the front cover - write a prediction about what you think the book will be about.

Task B: Now read this blurb. Write a new prediction in a different colour Born in a Soviet prison camp, Lina has never seen the world outside until the night she escapes with her best friend, Bogdan. As the pair journey across a snowy wilderness, they are pursued by a vengeful sorceress and her pack of shadow wolves. The children will need every ounce of courage - and a whisper of magic - if they are to survive…

Task C: Now read the opening chapter by clicking on the link. Write a prediction about what you think the book is about now in a new colour.

Activity 3: LO - I can use evidence to justify an answer

1) We learn in the first chapter that the Siberian Labour camp was not a pleasant place to be. Explain how you know this using evidence from the text (3).

Remember: P. E. E - point, evidence and explanation. We expect to see 3 quotes in your answer.

Activity 4: LO - I can illustrate using details from the textChoose a character from the first chapter and illustrate them using quotes from the text. Remember to use speech marks, note the page number and MAKE SURE YOU COPY THE QUOTE CORRECTLY.

You do such beautiful illustrations so we are excited to see what you come up with here!

You could add in personality traits that you think your chosen character has - these should be taken from the text not just imagined.

Activity 5: LO - I can make predictions using details from the text - stated and impliedRead the initial opening for chapter 2 (it can be found on the same link as chapter one).

1. Jot down what you think could happen next in note form. 3 chilli children - write explanations for why you think this using evidence from the text (you can use both chapters if you like)

2. Choose one of them to write in length. Write as if you are the author and write 2 paragraphs following on from the opening one. Remember, it cannot be boring! You are a published author! Use lots of description and a rich vocabulary (adjectives, expanded noun phrases etc). Draw the reader in. Make us want to read on!
