MISSION STATEMENT
The Catholic Center at the University of Georgia
is a Eucharistic Community that seeks to live the gospel of
Jesus Christ in the tradition of our Roman Catholic faith and the
spirit of St. Francis. As Christian disciples we are charged to answer
Christ’s call for compassion by becoming instruments of peace,
charity and justice. We seek to stand in solidarity with the poor, the
stranger, the alienated and to collaborate with those who serve them
in local and global communities. We endeavor to respect a universe
created by God in Love.

ARCHBISHOP’S ANNUAL APPEAL 2016 - “LOVE NEVER FAILS”
We are making some progress, but the Catholic Center still is short of sufficient pledges to meet our goal of $50,000 for 2016. Statistics indicate that we must overachieve the goal in pledges to get sufficient payments to meet the goal. We are currently almost $13,000 short of goal in total pledges and we have far fewer participants than in years past. Any shortfall at the end of the year will be paid out of the Catholic Center’s operating expenses. However, if we exceed our goal, 100% of the excess will be returned to the Catholic Center for our use.
If you have not already made a pledge for 2016, we ask that you prayerfully consider supporting this very important initiative. We need everyone’s help to make our goal. Pledge envelopes can be found in the back of the Chapel and in the Center Office, or you can make a pledge/payments using the link on our website at ccatuga.org. Thank you.
QUOTE FOR THE WEEK
“One side of the cross is empty. That is where we belong.”
Catherine de Hueck Doherty
(20th century Catholic Social worker )
CATHOLIC TRIVIA
Which Gospel writer is said to have been a painter?
Last week’s answer: When Danny Thomas was a young man, he dreamed to have a career in the entertainment industry, but was unsure if it could support a wife and family. He asked St. Jude Thaddeus to intercede for him. “Show me my way in life and I will build you a shrine,” Thomas prayed. He soon began finding steady work, became a huge celebrity and fulfilled his promise to St. Jude by founding St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN.
Calling all artists! We have an open studio for artists in the Center Hall on Thursdays from 10AM to 1PM during the summer. All skill levels are welcome, but you must be able to work without supervision. Bring your lunch, art supplies, a trash bag and a vinyl tablecloth and join us for a supportive
and affirming gathering of artists.
Our Daily Bread Volunteers Needed Volunteers are needed to prepare and serve bag lunches for Our Daily Bread soup kitchen on Saturday, June 18th and Saturday, July 16th.. Lunches will be assembled at the Catholic Center from 10:00-11:30 and distributed at Athens First Baptist Church (downtown) from 11:45-1:00. Email or call George Dougherty to volunteer or get more information 706-247-1933 or [email protected].
A heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone who participated in our Memorial Day Mass, flagpole ceremony and brunch. Special thanks to Larry and Teddy Dempsey for coordinating the event. It was a beautiful tribute to those who paid the ultimate price for our freedom and to all who have served and still serve in the military. May our fallen heroes rest in the eternal peace of Christ.
