1. Overview

The original speed (indicated in this photo) have been doubled by the replacement of the motor, explained
later. The motor speeds therefore are: 72, 116, 166, 278, 338, 1020, and 1600 rpm

2. Specifications
This is a photograph of the first page of the instruction manual (included with the lathe). This lathe is the
Eagle model:

3. Electrical
The original motor was replaced by a GE motor that runs off 230V single phase:
Included with the lathe are the switch box and the 30 Amp breaker:

4. Test
A ¾” aluminum rod was held by the 5C collet chuck holder and a live center.
The original diameter was 0.74675”
It was turned down across one foot:

At one end, the resulting diameter was 0.74605”. At the other end, the result diameter was 0.74630”.
This implies that the slides are very parallel to the spindle, to within a quarter thou (0.00025”) per foot.
This also implies that the runout on the 5C collet is well below half a thou (because the full circumference was
turned down by less than half a thou).
The finish is also impeccable:

6. Coolant system
The coolant reservoir is located underneath the lathe (left). A pump circulates coolant through two
switchable magnetically held hoses (middle). A light switch is used to turn the coolant pump on/off. (right)
