There are 200 miles of gravel roads and three different types of levels of
surface The roads that are listed in high maintenance have an annual cost that is
very close to the cost of maintaining paved roads The problems with high
maintenance gravel roads were reviewed The departmentrsquos goal is to find an
improved low-cost surface treatment with annual surface maintenance costs that
are at or near that of a high maintenance gravel road Two treatment projects
that are being piloted are the Otta Seal and Paving with Asphalt Grindings Mr
Doty explained the installation and cost of each program The pilot program
treatments and costs will be evaluated to determine their efficiency and
effectiveness
Commissioner Unger commented that he is pleased with the pilot program He
explained that in the past he lived on a gravel road and the city attempted to
keep up on the maintenance but the use of the road changed The city
