They had a non-profit board of directors that provided the staff, services and support to Charlevoix Seniors. Quite a few years ago, it become part of the Charlevoix County system and is run though the Commission on Aging County Department. The COA provides & oversees staff, ser- vices, support, meals, events and activities at the Charlev- oix Senior Center now. The Charlevoix Senior Center has limited space so having a vari- ety of programs, events and activities going on can be a challenge. Our meals are usu- ally close to capacity but our seniors here like the quaint and social closeness. Cur- rently the greatest draws to this center are the access to community activities outside of the center, meals, crafts, conversations and games. We are now seeing this center needing more space so that additional services, events and activities can be ongoing at the same time. The aging community is now asking for more than what is currently available, and though this Center is stretching to meet those needs and wants, we are now reimagining what a new center could be without losing what it is to the current aging participants. Also unique are the Beaver Island Senior Services provid- ed by the COA. This is due to the isolation of being an island and what that isola- tion limits the COA to do when it comes to services and support. There is not a “Senior Center” located on Beaver Island as the community utilizes the Community Center as a point of information and resources for seniors. The restaurants, community center and the churches are utilized for most of the aging communal social needs. Collaboration is key on the island and not duplicating services is essential. As we don’t have a physical center or health care staff on the island, the aging commu- nity take their senior meals though a program with the restaurants and school. They also can participate in an income qualifying reimbursement program for health care services utilizing caregivers living on the island or they can access the BI Health Center run by Munson. All our Senior Centers in Charlevoix County are open to the community, you just need to be 60 years old or above to qualify for the discounts and services. Those under 60 pay a different rate. The meals, educational pro- grams and activities are for all to enjoy! COA Office 218 W. Unfortunately the anticipated new Senior Residential Snow Removal Program

has been put on hold until snow removal contractors can be found.

The success of this program is solely dependent upon snow removal

contactor’s participation and we do not have that to date after

multiple attempts. We understand that this is a HUGE need in

our community and will continue to work on

getting this program in place for the future.

respect to the safety and wellness of our Seniors on Beaver Island. The COA has created a program with

the Sheri ’s Department that will provide free, periodic wellness checks for aging residents of Beaver Island,

aged sixty (60) and older.

Beaver Island, being remote, rural and not having ac-cess to the mainland resources by its island de nition,

has unique needs for collaborative e orts regarding the wellness of the existing aging community and this is a
