You have 2 Choices
Jerry is the manager of a restaurant. He is always in good mood.
When someone would ask him how he was doing, he would always reply:
“If I were any better, I would be twins!”
Many of the waiters at his restaurant quit their jobs when he changed jobs, so they could follow him around from restaurant to restaurant
Why? Because Jerry was a natural motivator..
If an employee was having a bad day, Jerry was always there, telling him how to look on the positive side of the situation.
Seeing this style really made me curious, so one day I went up to Jerry and asked him:
“I don’t get it! No one can be a positive person all of the time. How do you do it?”
Jerry replied, “Each morning I wake up and say to myself, I have two choices today. I can choose to be in a good mood or I can choose to
be in a bad mood. I always choose to be in a good mood. Each time something bad happens, I can choose to be victim or I can choose to
learn from it. I always choose to learn from it. Every time someone comes to me complaining, I can choose to accept their complaining or
I can point out the positive side of life. I always choose the positive side of life”.
“But it’s not always that easy,” I protested.
“ Yes it is,” Jerry said.
“Life is all about choices. When you cut away all the junk every situation is a choice. You choose how you react to situations. You
choose how people will affect your mood. You choose to be in a good mood or bad mood. It’s your choice how you live your life.”
Several years later, I heard that Jerry accidentally did something you are never supposed to do in the restaurant business. He left the back
door of his restaurant open. And then in the morning, he was robbed by the three armed men. While Jerry trying to open the safe box, his
hand, shaking from nervousness, slipped off the combination. The robbers panicked and shot him.
Luckily, Jerry was found quickly and rushed to the hospital.
After 18 hours of surgery and week of intensive care, Jerry was released from the hospital with fragments of the bullets still in his
body….
I saw Jerry about six months after the accident..
When I asked him how he was, he replied, “If I were any better, I’d be twins. Want to see my scars?” I declined to see his wounds, but
did ask him what had gone through his mind as the robbery took place.
“The first thing that went through my mind was that I should have locked the back door,” Jerry replied. “ Then after they shot me, as I lay
on the floor, I remembered that I had two choices: I could choose to live or could choose to die. I choose to live. But when they wheeled
me into the Emergency Room and I saw the expression on the faces of the doctors and nurses, I got really scared. In their eyes, I read
“He’s a dead man.” I knew I needed to take action.”
“What did you do?” I asked. “Well, there was a big nurse shouting questions at me,” said Jerry. “She asked if I was allergic to anything.”
“Yes, to bullets.” I replied.
Over their laughter, I told them: “I am choosing to live. Please operate on me as if I am alive, not dead.”
Jerry lived thanks to the skill of his doctors, but also because of his amazing attitude.
I learned from him that every day you have the choice to either enjoy your life or to hate it.
The only thing that is truly yours—that no one can control or take from you—is your attitude, so if you can take care of that, everything
else in life becomes much easier.– DIANA

What positions that you held during working in MCE and what are the differences of challenge that you faced?
Prior to this current position as Group Manager of Engineering/QA Division I was appointed as QA Manager from 1999 until 2006
which was served for about 7 years. Each position has its own challenges. The main difference is the working scope and now my
responsibility is becoming bigger. As QA Manager, I focused on issues related to quality but now I have to concentrate on more
aspects starts from quotation of project during initial stage, research and development, quality monitoring until customer compliant
handling. I need to ensure that the departments under my observation can operate properly and smoothly, such as R&D, QA/ QC,
Testing and Jig & Fixture.
How about the responsibility of the Quality and Environmental Management Representative (QMR / EMR)?
As QMR / EMR, I need to ensure that the quality management / environmental system can be created, implemented and maintained
properly in the company. To achieve this objective, I also supported by the Quality / Environmental Steering Committee (QESC).
The committee is composed of representatives from each department that has gained recognition in the quality / environment
management system of ISO/TS 16949:2009, ISO 9001:2008 & ISO 14001:2004. I also have to report to top management on the
performance of the quality / environmental system from time to time and increase awareness among employees about the
requirements and needs of customer.
As ICC (Innovative and Creative Circle) Chairman, what is your desire through programs like this?
I wish to create awareness of creative thinking in term of time saving, increases of quality awareness and cost reduction to all
employees and it will gain benefit to company. The objectives of the ICC activities are to institute the interest on each employee to
fully apply the ICC concept and built-up their initiatives to move forward the ICC activities. The ICC activities also aim to enhance
each employee abilities in contributing of improvement and development of their departments. It is also inspire teamwork, promote
job involvement, increase employee motivation, improve communications and relationship and also promote leadership among
employees. Related to the ICC objectives, ICC committee had succeeded to conduct the ICC convention for three (3) consecutive
years since 2009. The great encouragement from various departments in involving of ICC convention had given certain improvement
for company benefit.
What about BEX (Business Excellence Programme) activities?
As Chairman of the BEX, I have to make sure the company vision, mission and management philosophy are achievable. Two (2)
sub-committees had been established in order to implement the discussion activities and deliver the relevant information to
employees. Two sub-committees are Corporate Social Responsibility Subcommittee and Information Subcommittee. I had made 7
core dimensions of “Malaysia Business Excellence Framework” as a reference. It includes Leadership, Planning, Information,
Customers, People, Processes and Results. Time-to-time review of such planned activities is needed in order to make sure the
planned schedule can be implemented accordingly.
What is your opinion about the reforms can be done for the good, progress and success of the company?
Creating a standard or system that is able to improve the quality, communication skills, skill levels, process simplification and
reformation of documentation system. However, promoting learning organization is also vital to be considered because in the current
decade the self improvement is becoming more and more competitive among the automotive industries. New development
technology is a must to be developed to fulfill current competitive product range.

Special Interview Session with Mr. Lim Chern Tin
For special interview session this time, we will be with Mr. Lim Chern Tin, one of Head of
Department whom often involved in improvement activities organized by the company. He will share

Setiap jawatan mempunyai cabaran tersendiri.
pelanggan mengenai kualiti produk.
pengurusan kualiti / persekitaran iaitu ISO/TS 16949:2009, ISO:9001 & ISO 14001:2004.
proses & pembaharuan sistem dokumentasi.

Difficult/ Easy questions
In one interview, the
interviewer got impatient
about one guy because
he could answer all the
questions so quickly and
arrogantly.
"Tell me your choice,"
said he to the boy, "I
shall either ask you ten
easy questions or ONE
real difficult. Think well
before you make up your
mind."
The boy thought for a
while and said, "My
choice is ONE real
difficult question."
"Well, good luck to you,
you have made your own
choice!" said the man on
the opposite side. Tell
me: What comes first,
Day or Night?"
The boy was jolted first
but he waited for a while
and said: "It's the DAY,
sir."
"How??" the interviewer
was smiling ("At last, I
got you!" he said to
himself.)
"Sorry sir, you promised
me that you will not ask
me a SECOND difficult
question!"
Admission for the course
was thus secured.
