Earl Baldwin of Bewdley

Lord Baldwin is chairman of the Parliamentary Group for Alternative andComplementary Medicine and chair of the British Acupuncture Accreditation Board.He has made many vital contributions in Parliament to debates on health care andhas a regular column in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine. Hehas a background in education and teaching.

The Lord Norrie

Lord Nonie has contributed extensively to Parliamentary work on environment andhealth issues and has a special interest in holistic health and in the care andheatment of kidney patients. His Private Members Bill to make swimming part of theNational Curriculum in schools was adopted by the Government and came into forcein 1996. He served as a member of the House of Lords European CommunitiesCommittee on the Environment for four years, and was the House of Lords winner ofthe 1993 Green Award for contribution to the environment. He has been Presidentof the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers since 1987, and is a Vice-Presidentof the Council for National Parks. Manibhai Patel, a prominent Ugandan Asian, is a founder member of the SocialDemocratic Party and an elected member of the Council for Social Democracy, theSDP's policy making body. He is a member of the Asian Liberal Democrats. He hasa keen personal interest in the welfare of all immigrants in the UK and is an activetrustee of lmmigrant Aid within the joint council for Welfare of lmmigrants. Hesupports many charities in the UK and India including Home Farm Trust for disabledchildren and the Princes Youth Business Trust.

David Hemery, OBE

David Hemery is best known for his days in sport, both as olympic champion anoworld Record holder in the 400m hurdles and later three times winner of superstars.since then he has been a coach, teacher, manager and writer. For the list eightyears he has been primarily applying the principles of coaching into managementtraining. That skill is effective questions which involve and motivate the peiormer.Most recently he has also been working with teachers, enhancing their facilitationskills, to help them to unlock more of the innate potential in theii students. Davidreceived his BSc in Business Management from Boston university; his certificate ofEducation in Economics and RE from oxford University; his Mastlrs in lnternationalEducation from Harvard university and his Doctorate in social psychology inEducation from Boston University. Dr Ray Bhatt, MBChB, PhD

Dr Bhatt has worked and taught undergraduate and postgraduate students at leadingmedical schools in England and abroad for the past 30 years. He was until recentlyhead of the prestigious Mtamin 812 Unit at Charing Cross and Westminster MedicalSchool. He is one of the few recognised world experts involved in advancing thefundamental understanding of the role of key vitamins in the development of thebrain and nervous system. He has pioneered the treatment of infants and childrensuffering from devastating neuro-metabolic diseases. Dr Bhatt firmly believes thatthe principles and practices of holistic medicine should now be taught routinely atevery level in the healthcare professions.

Dr Goodman is a community dentist and stressNet Manager with Bradfordcommunity Health Trust. He is a member of the steering group for the Trust'sPersonal Development Programme and also runs regular seminars on stressmanagement and positive thinking for Trust staff" He has toured parts of Indialecturing on stress, addiction and holistic approaches to health, visiting hospitals andnursing and dental colleges. Jayanti Kirpalani

For over 30 years, Sister Jayanti has travelled widely as a speaker, broadcaster andemissary for peace. She has lectured widely in themes related to holistic health andthe effect of mental states on recovery from disease. She has also co-ordinatedseveral national and international projects in conneclion with Women, Development,the Environment and Youth. Sister Jayanti is European Co-ordinator for the BrahmaKumaris World Spiritual University and assists in co-ordinating the University'sactivities in 70 countries.

Mr Nayankumar Patel, FPodA, SRCh, DPodM, MChS

Mr Patel is a specialist in podiatric surgery at the Department of Chiropody andPodiatric Medicine at the City and Hackney Community Health Trust and is anadviser to the Education and Research Wing of the British Association ofHomeopathic Podiatrists. As part of his voluntary work he has been podiatrist for theLondon Marathon Medical Team and has provided clinical assistance in paediatric-orthopaedics at medical camps in India. He has also presented seminars andpractical training programmes for medical and nursing staff in infection control and inbasic and advanced life support for Global Hospital, Mt Abu, India.

Miss Rendell is a regional specialist in upperJimb prosthetic rehabilitation. Professor Donald Barltrop, MD, BScHons, FRCP, FRCPCH

Professor Barltrop is head of Academic Department of Child Health at Chelsea andWestminster Hospital within the lmperial College School of Medicine, London. He isalso a Fellow of the American College of Nutrition. His research interests includeenvironmental hazards for children, with special reference to toxic trace metals andnutrition. He has published, edited and contributed to 1 1 books and over 90 originalpapers in leading medical and scientific journals.

Professor Franco Botlazzo, MD, FRCP, FRCPath

Professor Bottazzo is the discoverer of islet cell antibodies, which are used, in theearly diagnosis of type one diabetes. His prolific research contributions - over 200original papers - are widely quoted by all international experts. Having worked andtaught in leading medical schools in England and ltraly for the last 25 years, he iscurrently the head of Department of lmmunology at The Royal London and StBartholomeu/s Hospitals. He has won major prizes in diabetes including the BantingMemorial and RD Lawrence and the Minkowsky awards.

Dr Sarah Eagger, MBBS, MRCPsych

Dr Eagger is senior lecturer and honorary consultant psychiatrist for the elderly at theDivision of Neuroscience and Psychological Medicine, lmperial College School ofMedicine. She has pioneered research on the first licensed treatment forAlzheimer's disease at the Maudsley Hospital, London. Dr Eagger has alongstanding involvement in holistic health and is currently chairperson of the BritishHolistic Medical Association. She is concerned with the application of holisticprinciples and their implications in the education and training of doctors.

Dr Peter Fenwick, MB, Bchir, DPM, FRGPsych

Dr Fenwick is senior lecturer at the Institute of Psychiatry, London, consultantneuropsychiatrist at John Radcliffe Infirmary in Oxford, and honorary consultant inneurophysiology to Broadmoor Special Hospital. He has published numerousscientific papers on brain function and also several papers on meditation and alteredstates of consciousness. His most recent book is 'The Truth in the Light'. DrFenwick is also chairman of the Scientific and Medical Network, a group of doctorsand scientists seeking to deepen understanding in science and medicine by fosteringintuitive as well as rational insights.

Dr Ashok Mehta, MS, FICS

Dr Mehta is the surgeon and chief of head and neck services at Tata MemorialHospital in Bombay, lndia. He is also the head of oncology at Nanavati Hospital andMedical Research Centre, and honorary cancer surgeon at the Jaslok Hospital andMedical Research Centre, Bombay. Dr Mehta has been a pioneer in continuingmedical education in India, first introducing the concept to the Association ofSurgeons of India in 1974. He was president of the association in 1986 representingseven speciality sections besides general surgeons. He is the medical director ofGlobal Hospital and Research Centre, Mt Abu.

Dr David Peters, MB, ChB, DRCOG, MFHom, MRO

Dr Peters is a registered medical practitioner and Osteopath and member of theFaculty of Homeopathy. For the last 10 years he has been directing theComplementary Therapies' service delivery and research unit at Marylebone HealthCentre and lnner City General Practice set up with the aim of developing approachesin primary care. He is Director of Complementary Therapy Studies in the Centre orCommunity Care and Primary Health at the University of Westminster and inter-disciplinary unit, whose programmes include four undergraduate degrees and twopost graduate programmes. He is the co-author of the new Encyclopaedia ofComplementary Medicine. His team at Marylebone Health Centre, have justcompleted the first year of a four-year project on the impact of complementarytherapies on NHS General Practice.

Dr Hansa Raval, MBBS, PSM (WHO-Nutrition), MD, FCAP, FASC

Dr Raval is Professor at the Brooke Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. She isthe Program Director of the School of Cytotechnology, Cytopathy Fellowship andResidency training programme at the center as well as the Medical Consultant at theOncology Department. Throughout the world, she has presented numerous papersand given many talks on the effect of consciousness on health. The subjects haveincluded research on death and dying, the treatment of cancer, the seed of disease,diet and nutrition, and the benefits of meditation. She is Chairman of the GlobalHospital Cancer and Research Centre, Mt Abu, India.

She then joined '4D' at The Place, withwhom she performed and toured, for a year. Having completed her Masters in DancePerformance, she has been working freelance in London and all over lreland.Meditation and spirituality are an integral part of her own choreography inconbmporary dance.
