For Christians the evening of December 24 is

considered as the birth of the Son of God - Jesus

Christ . We also celebrate this holiday in Bulgaria. In

our country is called Christmas Eve!

The evening begins as the oldest man ignites a

holiday fire . It is fueled by the Yule –tide log, a

special wood that burns all night .

According to an old tradition , you can find on the table :- boiled corns - boiled beans - dried fruit- garlic - honey - nuts- manna croup - ritual bread

There is a special bread in which you can find a coin and who finds it will have health and money throughout the year .

The bread is broken into several pieces :- for dead - God- for every member of the - family - and for all animals

It is a custom not to leave the table before every one has been fed !!!

After midnight start Koledari . The Koledars are boys up to 12 years .

They go around from house to house singing songs and carrying

health . Hostesses give them buns , dried

fruit , nuts and candy .
