NORTH CAROLINA BAPTISTS, The year 2020 has been a year like no other in our lifetime. Events of this year have left many people hurting in numerous ways. As followers of the Lord Jesus Christ, we should be compelled by the love He demonstrated for us through His death on the cross to love others, serve them and point them to Christ. “Compelled by Love” is the theme for this year’s North Carolina Missions Offering (NCMO) and is based upon 2 Corinthians 5:14, which says “For Christ’s love compels us, since we have reached this conclusion: If One died for all, then all died” (HCSB). The North Carolina Missions Offering supports a variety of ministries that declares and displays the gospel by sharing the love of Jesus in word and deed. This year’s offering goal is $2.1 million. The offering is allocated by percentage to Baptists on Mission (41%), church planting (28%), mission camps (15%), associational projects (10%) and mobilization ministry projects (6%). One of the most visible ministries that the NCMO supports is disaster relief, which is one of the 19 different ministries of Baptists on Mission, which is also known as N.C Baptist Men. Many in eastern North Carolina are still recovering from devastating and historic hurricanes that have struck our state in recent years. Disaster relief volunteers are continuing to help many people who lost everything rebuild their homes and their lives. The sacrificial love these volunteers have shown has led many storm victims into a life-changing relationship with Jesus Christ. At the onset of COVID-19 this spring, Baptists on Mission worked with local churches to distribute and deliver food to those in need in communities across our state. The NCMO also goes a long way toward impacting lostness by helping establish new churches across North Carolina. Since 2009, the BSCNC has worked with more than 1,100 new churches across the state. Many of these new churches are reaching people from different nationalities and ethnicities, allowing them to hear the gospel and worship in their own heart language. Thousands of people are coming to know Christ each year through these church plants. Getting North Carolina Baptists personally involved in missions is one of the primary goals of the NCMO. Gifts to the offering help fund mission camps in Shelby and Red Springs that offer church groups the opportunity to engage in local missions projects. Additionally, the NCMO allows N.C. Baptists to participate in short-term mission trips in the United States and around the world through several national and international partnerships. Plus, NCMO helps support a variety of outreach and missions activities right here in North Carolina through partnerships with our local Baptist associations. Many examples of the impact these ministries are having in our state, nation and world are included in this coordinator guide, which is designed to help you promote the NCMO in your church. There are a number of stories, testimonies, prayer points and other resources available to you. Thank you for your prayers and gifts as we seek to once again meet our offering goal of $2.1 million. I am grateful for what you do in your generous and faithful support of this special offering. Even amid challenging times, be encouraged that God is at work. May we motivated and compelled by love to join Him in His mission. In His Service,

$856,720“Compelled by Love” is the theme for this year’s North Carolina Missions Offering (NCMO). Because Christ has lovingly died in our place, we are compelled to share the gospel and sacrificially serve those in need. The theme is based upon 2 Corinthians 5:14, which says “For Christ’s love compels us, since we have reached this conclusion: If One died for all, then all died” (HCSB). Being compelled by Christ’s love involves showing and sharing the love of Jesus with those in our communities and around the world. As we look across our state, nation and world and reflect upon what Christ has done for us, may we work together to heal the ever-present brokenness by proclaiming the gospel in word and deed. As you pray and sacrificially give to the North Carolina Missions Offering, remember that all of your gifts support vital ministries that offer love and hope in the name of Jesus Christ.

Disaster ReliefWhile North Carolina is no stranger to severe storms and hurricanes, Hurricane Florence brought record-breaking levels of devastation to the state in the fall of 2018 and relief efforts are ongoing.

Five large rebuild centers in eastern North Carolina house and feed volunteers who continuously work to rebuild homes and rebuild lives. The rebuilding effort is projected to last up to three years and will require numerous volunteers to get the thousands of hurting people and families who remain displaced back in their homes.

Baptists on Mission is continuously directing resources and mobilizing volunteers to bring hope back to these devastated communities, many of which have been long forgotten.

As Christians, we can offer help and hope in Jesus’ name. These rebuild centers offer an easy way for your church to get personally involved with an impacted family and to share Christ through word and deed. Here’s a summary of how some of the thousands of N.C. Baptist disaster relief volunteers offered help and hope in 2019.

COVID-19 has affected every county and every state across our nation at the same time. Since the end of February, Baptists on Mission has helped churches love their neighbors and one another during these stressful days. Hundreds of families have been connected with local churches who are ministering to them. Volunteers have

been picking up and distributing food at 185 churches and community centers across the state to help those in need.

In addition, Baptists on Mission has provided 40,000 N-95 masks and 10,000 surgical masks to health care workers across the state.

MEDICAL, DENTAL AND HEALTH SCREENING

Ministries

Being compelled by love can involve sharing the love of Christ by helping meet an individual’s physical and spiritual needs. One way Baptists on Mission does this is through its medical, dental and health screening ministries. A fleet of mobile medical, dental and health screening units offer free health services to underserved patients. The fleet is staffed by volunteer medical and dental professionals. All patients who receive treatment also hear the good news of Jesus Christ from pastors and volunteers who provide care.

We’re thankful that God has provided a new state-of-the-art health screening bus into operation across North Carolina. This new bus is bigger, more efficient and will be able to serve more people in a way that displays love and concern for those who do not have access to basic medical care and screenings.

ChurchPLANTING

$596,000The Baptist State Convention of North Carolina works with churches, associations and church-planting networks to facilitate the launch of new churches. The Church Planting team’s desire is to catalyze a church planting movement in cities and towns from the mountains to the coast. The goal isn’t just to plant churches. We want to plant churches that plant churches that plant churches.

The North Carolina Missions Offering is vital to the convention’s church planting efforts, and we’re thankful for your support. This offering provides approximately one-third of the church planting team’s annual budget. This year, 28 percent of NCMO gifts will go toward planting new churches in North Carolina. By giving to the NCMO, you help plant churches that make disciples of Jesus Christ.

Why plant new churches? With approximately 4,300 Baptist churches in North Carolina, some may wonder why planting new churches is necessary. Statistics repeatedly demonstrate that new church plants are one of the most effective ways to reach new people with the gospel of Jesus Christ. North Carolina is blessed with many wonderful church families. However, to see the more than 5.8 million lost people in the state come to know the Lord, more churches need to be planted to serve the diverse and growing population of unreached peoples.

If we are going to reach people who do not currently attend church, it is imperative that we do what will be most effective to help them experience the life-changing message of Jesus Christ. New churches show an evangelistic intentionality to reach unchurched people. Newer congregations that are filled with formerly unchurched people often demonstrate an urgent desire to attract and invite their non-believing friends into their gatherings.
