May 4. Fritz Petersen of Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital shared information on Med Now Programs currently available at our local hospi-tal. The next meeting of the Lunch

Bunch won’t be until noon September 7. Wednesday Night Potlucks at 6:30 pm are taking place most Wednesdays during the summer. Pastor Dennis leads a Bible study after the potluck. Sunday Morning Coffee, Juice and Cookies are served in the narthex area from 9:00 to 11:00 am. We led the worship service at Tendercare Nurs-ing Home Sunday, May 7. Pastor Dennis gave the message, Al Carlson led the singing and Karen Dise-gna played the piano. Also attending from our church were Bob Ford, Vi DeMeester, Dale Bonser and Sandy Sgro. Fourteen residents attended. Our next time to lead services at the nursing homes will be Sunday, August 20. We served 80 people at Community Table May 16, with 15 people from our church helping to prepare and serve the meal. Thanks to all who helped! Our next time to serve will be July 25.

Take a moment to congratulate these young people, and keep them in your prayers as they embark on this exciting new journey in their lives.

Maranatha Women’s Summer Breakaway Wednesday, June 28, 9:30-3:30

Dear Friends, This month I would like to tell you a short tale about ministry. When I first began as a pastor back in the 90’s, I was able to call the hospitals in the area from my office, identify myself as a pastor, and ask for a census

report. Some hospitals would only share information according to denomination, others would share any new patients who came in. This information was helpful as I then knew who was in the hospital and for what reason. Sometimes the hospital would call me, and inform me that one of the flock was being cared for at the facility. I knew who wished a visit and where to find them. Today the circumstances are very different. Hospi-tals no longer give out this type of information, nor may the volunteers who work at the hospital share who is coming and going. Most of us believe that our medical and other health information is private and should be protected, and we want to know who has this information. The Privacy Rule, a Federal law, gives you rights over your health information and sets rules and limits on who can see and receive your health information. The Privacy Rule applies to all forms of individuals' protected health data, whether electronic, written, or oral. Information cannot be shared by others without your consent. I do go into the hospitals when I am aware we have someone who desires a visit. The change that has taken place over the years has placed the responsibil-ity in the hands of those being treated. If you want someone to know you’re in the hospital, you need to tell that person. Even those volunteers in our church who serve in the hospital are not allowed by law to inform me who is being cared for at the time. The fact is that if you do not call the office, leave a note or email, or otherwise notify me, I cannot visit you. It is not like it used to be; now the opportunities for hospital visits come through your keeping me in-formed. That being said, if you are going into the hospital or having surgery, please let me know, as I would love to come and pray with you. Oh, and if you leave me a note telling me you are in the hospi-tal or you would like a visit, it is helpful if you sign your name and mention which hospital you are us-ing. I don’t know everyone’s handwriting yet, and several of you go to hospitals outside the Ludington area.

The same might be said for home visits. We live in a very private world today. I no longer just drop in, as I have been asked by several folks over the years not to do so. I have been invited to come and visit at times when I am already committed to some other activity, so if you wish a visit it is helpful to give me times and addresses, as well as options if I am una-vailable for the time specified. The world is a very different place today than it was 25 years ago, and ministry has changed as well. As I write these words, I must confess I am not the only pastor that has been challenged to explain why a hospital visit has not taken place, and so I write this for those who have shared their tales with me as well. Models for ministry has also changed over the years. Our families are busy, with sports and school events scheduled every day of the week. There are many who wish to use the time away from those activities for “family time” or “travel time” which also causes the windows of opportunity to be even narrower than before. I know my grandchildren and my own family are so busy it takes a calendar and an appointment to even talk on the phone. It is hard to keep a relationship alive without contact, and with-out seeing each other face to face. Take care of your loved ones, for once the tie is broken it is almost impossible to reconnect it. Love each other, talk to each other, and perhaps even more importantly, listen to each other. We have but a short time in this life to make memories and to share love. Don’t make the mistake of thinking that there is always tomorrow to do so, because tomor-row is promised to no one. May you all have peace in your heart, in your mind, and in your spirit. 2. A sidekick, comedian and friend named Flame (Flame is a red panda puppet specifically de-signed to delight heroes of all ages)

3. A supersonic Shuttle Crew as a hero support team that inspires students with new theme-related challenges to go with each session

4. An authoritative captain named Commander Zander

5. A sharp, efficient officer named Agent Eagle

6. A funny, hapless crew member named Agent Fal-con

7. At least 1 sound and tech hero who may prefer to be an invisible, behind-the-scenes person, but does not have to be

8. Decorating and stage setting heroes, costume makers, craft and science heroes, snack and mu-sic heroes, plus storytellers!

9. Preschool and Kindergarten heroes and recrea-tion heroes!

VBS Hero Central is designed to introduce students to a deeper relationship with God through Jesus Christ, based on the Bible and the Gospel of the Liv-ing Christ.

Sunday School greeters/host to register kids and check out library books for them, and make sure they are picked up by their parents

Lighting the Way Winning Posters

The Lighting the Way Capital Campaign Committee sponsored a poster contest to pro-mote our May 21 Commitment Sunday. Eighteen posters were submitted. Ten posters were designed by Sunday School students. Eight posters were created by our youth. After much consideration all the entries were declared winning posters. Winners were recognized

Executive Board - Friday, June 2, 1:00 pm The third monthly Ladies’ Lunch Date is planned for Monday, June 26 at noon at the picnic table area at the Loomis Street Boat Ramp. Bring your own jacket, sun-glasses, and lunch with you (beverage and brown bag from home or carryout from somewhere, etc). The alternate rain location will be Fellowship Hall at church. About 10-15 ladies enjoyed the first couple lunches. Call the office by Friday, June 23 if you can, to add your name so we know if we need to bring extra table/chairs. But don’t let the lack of a reser-vation keep you away!! Come and enjoy!! Karen Genson (843-2482) would love to hear about future places and preferred times and days of the week you would like to have us try.

The Music Corner From Becky Sopha We have many special events coming up this summer! On June 4 the Chancel Women’s Choir will sing the anthem and Pastor Judy will preach.

On June 11 the W.S.C.C. Men’s Choir will sing three anthems at the 11:00 service. July 2 is the Let Freedom Ring Patriotic Concerts at our church. A massed choir, children’s choir, soloists and instrumental ensemble will perform concerts at 5:00 and 7:00 pm under the direction of Elliot Plum-mer, Becky Sopha, and Lew Wilson. These annual concerts remind us of how precious our freedoms are and why we have them. The concerts are free, but any financial contributions will be given to the Mason County Veterans Fund. Please invite your families, neighbors, and friends to this inspiring hour of honoring our veterans with spirited songs and words of gratitude for their service to our country. Our church’s American Cancer Society Relay for Life team needs you! See the next page for details. Janet Raspotnik, a member of our church, has been diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of breast cancer. Her family and friends are putting on a Spaghetti Dinner and Auction Benefit for Janet here at our church Monday, June 5 from 5:30 to 8:30 pm (or whenever the food runs out). They are also look-ing for baked goods and auction items. See the church office bulletin board for more details. The 14.18 Alliance is a joint effort between area so-cial services organizations and community members. Its mission is to recruit, advocate, and partner with new and current foster families by mobilizing the church community. There are many things you can do, short of taking in a foster child: Volunteer for a Respite Night, donate new or gently used items, help create Placement Bags, and so on. Please see the church office bulletin board for more information. Thank you to everyone who made our May 19 blood drive a success. We took in 35 units of blood! Our next blood drive will be July 14.

STRIKE OUT CANCER! Yes, we're back....asking support for the 2017 American Cancer Society's Relay for Life event. Once again we have an opportunity to raise badly needed money that goes toward research and support for those fighting cancer. Your participa-tion is a strong statement that we stand united in our fight against the monster we call cancer. Dates: June 24-25, 2017 Opening ceremony--noon, June 24 Closing ceremony--10:00 AM, June 25 Place--Oriole Field, Ludington (corner of Tinkham and Gaylord) Twenty four one hour slots for walking are available for June 24-25. We will have a signup table in the nar-thex on June 4, 11, and 18 (before, during, and after services) where you may sign up for a time slot, make a

donation, or purchase a luminaria. It is not necessary to collect money in order to walk, although team members who collect $100 and are registered as a par-ticipant will receive a t-shirt. You may purchase a lumi-naria for $10.00 to honor a cancer survivor or the memory of a loved one. These will be placed around the Oriole Field track during the event and lit for the remainder of the Relay. It is always a particularly mov-ing part of this event. Last year my husband and I walked the track during the night hours. I cannot tell you how moved we were reading those names against the gentle glow of candlelight. Please join us! The Music Corner, continued from page 6 At the 11:00 service on July 9, Lew Wilson’s Alumni Choir will present special music for us! The Alumni Choir, directed by Lew Wilson, is made up of former students from Oxford High School classes from 1973 to 1996.

July 16 worship is one service at 10:00 am! Our church will be blessed to have Marty Miller, contemporary Christian music artist, to share his music ministry in our sanctuary. A delicious potluck lunch will follow the combined church service at the church pavilion on the property back of the church, weather permitting. If inclement weather happens, our meal will be shared in Fellowship Hall. Marty writes some of his own songs, but also sings contemporary Christian songs and hymns. Everyone’s musical “diet” should be nourished! Invite your extended fam-ilies, neighbors, and friends to this wonderful summer event! Please bring your own table service if possible. Beverages will be supplied. There will be a love offering taken for Marty’s music ministry, and the regular offering for tithes and offerings. Mark

your calendars for all these special Sundays as we worship together in word and music! It will be great to be togeth-er at one service! I know all who come will be glad they were here.
