Body found in 18-wheeler parked in New River

NEW RIVER ndash On Sunday night a manrsquos body was found in a semi parked in New River at the on-ramp of the I-17 The man appears to have died from natural causes

ldquoAround 730 pm last night (Sunday July 19) DPS received a report of suspicious vehiclerdquo said Bart Graves Media Relations Manager at the Arizona Department of Public Safety ldquoAn 18-wheeler had been parked for two days on the northbound onramp at I-17 at New River Roadrdquo

A DPS trooper responded to the report Upon arriving at the scene the trooper saw a man in the sleeper berth of the semi After checking on the occupant the

trooper determined the man was deceased No one else was in the vehicle when the trooper arrived

ldquoThe victim is a 48-year-old male who we believe is the oerator of the semirdquo Graves noted ldquoWe are waiting on the results of an autopsy We do not suspect foul playrdquo

The semi owned by Marten Trucking was carrying a load which was sealed inside the trailer Investigators are now examining the contents of the trailer

ANTHEM ndash The theme of this yearrsquos summer reading program at the North Valley Regional Library is lsquoEvery hero has a storyrsquo Through a visit to the Anthem Veterans Memorial summer reading participants got to hear local heroesrsquo stories firsthand

Summer reading program participants gathered at the Anthem Veterans Memorial as part of the libraryrsquos program At the memorial they learned United States military history and personal experiences of local veterans Anthem residents WWII Navy veteran John Ravita and active-duty Army Captain Jose Torres Bronze Star recipient each shared their experiences in the military

ADOT enhances security of driver license application process

NORTH VALLEY ndash The Arizona Department of Transportation has implemented facial recognition technology in the application process for state-issued credentials which the department says will help curb identity theft and fraud

An applicant for a new or duplicate driver license or state ID card at an ADOT Motor Vehicle Division or Authorized Third Party office will have their photo taken at the beginning of the process Facial recognition during the ldquoPhoto Firstrdquo review process occurs seamlessly and without delay as the customer continues through the application process

In 2012 ADOT Motor Vehicle Division implemented a Photo First approach to aid in the detection of and prevention of fraud forgery and identity theft In 2014 ADOT Motor Vehicle Division implemented Central Credential Issuance eliminating credentials being issued at the MVD or Authorized Third Party offices Both processes have contributed to a more comprehensive review of applications along with providing more time to identify possible fraudulent submissions

One of the best screening formats in the detection of identity theft attempted fraud or forgery in the application process has always been the ADOT

Motor Vehicle Division customer service representatives who initially review all documents submitted in the application packet During this initial screening process of the application packet by ADOT employees possible file errors or fraudulent submissions are detected

ldquoFacial recognition technology supports the commitment by ADOT to protect the privacy of its customers and to maintain the integrity and accuracy of the credential issuance processrdquo said ADOT Director John Halikowski ldquoThis technology enables us to fight against fraud and identity theftrdquo

The technology provides an effective screening method to identify errors in customer records in the state driver license database and to prevent fraudulent attempts to obtain an Arizona driver license or identification card It also allows ADOT to develop the new federally compliant Voluntary Travel ID according to the requirements outlined in the federal REAL ID Act of 2005

When a credential application record generates an alert resulting from the facial recognition technology the system will automatically perform an additional review of the record to identify and correct any possible file errors If the system verifies it is not a file error the record will then undergo a comprehensive review by personnel in the ADOT Office of the Inspector General

ldquoThis technology allows us to take a proactive approach to protecting peoplersquos identities and stopping fraudrdquo said ADOT Assistant Director Terry Conner who leads the Enforcement and Compliance Division ldquoOur detectives are already working investigations after reviewing reliable information provided by the systemrdquo

ANTHEM ndash The renovations are finished and the food court at the Outlets at Anthem has had a makeover With the new look comes a new name Cafeacutes at Anthem

Cox Communications installing new infrastructure

ANTHEM ndash The Phoenix area will soon be added to the list of Cox Communications G1GABLAST locations Local Cox customers who subscribe to Cox High Speed Internet Ultimate will have faster speeds beginning in September

Cox crews will be on-site around Anthem in the coming weeks installing equipment and upgrading their network for 1GIG Internet service The Anthem Country Club and the east side of Parkside will be seeing work crews in the neighborhood The project is scheduled to move west through Parkside over the next few months

Work crews will be providing residents notification of the intended installation via postcards mailed to homes Residents should also receive a door hanger with contractor details before work in their neighborhood begins Crews may need to excavate some areas during the installation Any sidewalks streets or landscaping disturbed during the excavation will be repaired once the work is complete

According to a news release from Cox Communications G1GABLAST delivers speeds 100 times faster than the average speed in the US today and

will be available in all Cox markets by the end of 2016

MCDOT to improve Anthem roadway wash crossings

ANTHEM ndash Starting in August the Maricopa County Department of Transportation will be working on six roadway wash crossings in Anthem

The MCDOT Anthem Drainage Improvement Project will focus on erosion prevention basins minor excavation slope stabilization and maintenance access Construction will start in August and should be finished by December

The project locations are Anthem Way east of N Venture Drive Anthem Way west of Freedom Way Anthem Way east of Freedom Way Gavilan Peak Parkway north of Summit Walk Drive Whitman Drive east of Courage Trail and Venture Drive north of Bryce Way

During the project sidewalk and lane restrictions will be required Motorists are asked to watch for detours and use alternate routes as necessary and as always to obey traffic warnings and drive safely through the construction zones

A man in Cave Creek emailed me to say the reason he is fat is because his wife cooks delicious high-calorie meals In other words she is killing him Then a man in Anthem emailed me to say he and his wife are both overweight because his wife rarely cooks since she started working and they ldquoeat junkrdquo Hmmhellipso the wifersquos cooking ndash or not cooking ndash is to blame

Since 1971 the average American has added over 750 calories a day to his or her diet Thatrsquos right we have supersized

ourselves into a Nation of Fatties We have the best tasting food with the highest caloric count and the most choices of anywhere on the planet And where has it gotten us Into a Size Extra Large

Doughnuts are deadly French fries will cause cellulite Stay away from iced tea or turn into a blimp These were the messages of one dedicated (zealot) physician in Florida who had been trying to keep the good folks of Panama City thin and healthy Evidently any doctor who tries to stand in the way of a community and their doughnuts is going to get a pink slip This is a cautionary tale

The young doctor was only trying to set an example for healthy living A former Army physician who served in Iraq the six foot one hundred sixty-five pound ldquorole-modelrdquo for fitness was paid over $140000 a year to run the state and county health department Some people in high places (like the county commissioners who fired him) thought he was taking his ldquodutiesrdquo a bit too far Okay so he hung up neon signs saying things like ldquoSweet Tea is Liquid Sugarrdquo and ldquoHamburgers = Spare Tiresrdquo Perhaps he annoyed a few too many ldquofat addictsrdquo

The downfall of the good doctor was his rant on Dunkinrsquo Donuts As American as apple pie it was more than the community could take when he started posting electronic signs on the health clinics saying ldquoAmerica Dies on Dunkinrdquo Hey I take issue with that

Those cakey little wonders with the frosty sweetness and pink sprinkles were made by angels Jelly-filled miracles of round powdered pleasures could not be the demons that this doctor was describing Surely one doughnut every now and then will not kill us

Yes Dear Readers someone who was so passionate about healthy eating could not stop himself from his ldquomissionrdquo which was actually more like self-destruction Not only couldnrsquot he be persuaded to remove the offending signs but he refused to allow doughnuts desserts confections or junk food to be eaten at any staff meetings The poor guy became so obsessed that he would raid the employee refrigerators and throw away any unhealthy food

It is reported that a fist fight occurred over a piece of cherry pie People get a little cranky about their food The doctor thought he was ldquobravelyrdquo educating people I think he was a coward Forget hanging neon signs up around town Why not just talk to people Because that takes real courage and the ability to communicate ndash telling patients things that they might not want to hear In the process of being passionate (insulting) about his dietary concerns he made the whole town fighting mad

Yes America has a weight problem But perhaps tough messages need to be told in compassionate ways And no neon sign is going to get people to stop eating Last I heard a patient at one of the clinics hung up a hand-painted sign that said ldquoAmericans Are Free To Eatrdquo Perhaps a sign of the times

I have more to say on this topic but I am getting ready to bake a peach coffee cake Oops no I meant to say I am making a fruit salad Only healthy for me (wink) Until next week consider the blessed freedom we have to dunk a doughnuthellipor not

It Doesnrsquot Help to Hide from a Process Server

JUSTICE OF THE PEACEIn our legal system a fairly

basic part of due process is that generally nothing bad can happen to you until you have received notice and have had an opportunity to respond In civil lawsuits the plaintiff is usually required to hire a process server to actually hand a copy of the lawsuit to the defendant The rules that govern this area are Arizona Rule of Civil Procedure 41 and Justice Court Rule of Civil Procedure 113 In spite of these rules sometimes this procedure does not work very well

Many hold a mistaken belief that if you can successfully hide from a process server then the lawsuit against you cannot go forward This is false So what happens if someone just refuses to answer their door or

decides to run from their place of employment and jump inside their car The plaintiff will request another way to serve you

Nearly every justice of the peace in Maricopa County each week receives dozens of motions seeking alternative service When they are accompanied by an affidavit from the process server they are almost always granted These affidavits often detail the number of attempts at service and state facts indicating that the defendant is avoiding service (eg the car is in the driveway the television is on but nobody will come to the door) So what happens next

If the motion is granted then the judge will issue an order authorizing alternative service which means that the process server is no longer required to hand the documents to you Instead the summons and complaint can be sent to you by certified and by regular mail If you continue to ignore the lawsuit the judge will most likely enter a default judgment against you

There are two types of cases where personal service is not required The first is in residential eviction cases In those cases what is called ldquonail and mailrdquo service is authorized

under ARS sect 33-1377(B) and Rules of Procedure for Eviction Actions Rule 5(f) In almost all of those types of cases a process server can tape the summons and complaint to the tenantrsquos door and then mail it to the tenant

The second type is a small claims case A plaintiff has the option of hiring a process server to serve a small claims case but all that is required is that the summons and complaint be mailed to the defendant by either registered or certified mail under ARS sect 22-513(A)

Most cases get resolved before a trial is held and a key to getting a case settled is for both sides to cooperate with each other Given that bad news seldom improves with the passage of time hiding from a process server will not help your case It will mainly just make the other side mad

Kiwanis Community Park renovations in full swing

NEW RIVER ndash The New River Kiwanis Community Parkrsquos renovation has begun and already the changes can be seen

On July 17-18 volunteers from the Tramonto Home Depot and volunteers from the community worked together to begin the park updates Volunteers cleaned up the Little League areas trimmed trees painted the interior of the bathrooms and began the

exterior painting all in two days Remodeling the 25-year-

old park bathrooms is first on the renovation agenda A new concrete pad is planned for the park and a barbecue will be installed in the area New trees that will shade the playground will be planted as well

The next lsquoCaring for Your Community Parkrsquo weekend has been set for Friday July 31 and Saturday Aug 1 6 am-noon The agenda for that weekend includes work on the swamp cooler further painting plumbing renovation and more general clean-up Lunch will be provided to volunteers at this community clean-up

En route to Hall Johnson continues to be valuable resource for D-backs

PHOENIX ndash Randy Johnson used to cram his 6-foot-10-inch frame into the luggage racks above the seats in the charter buses used by his minor league team so he could sleep on long road trips He said 12- to 15-hour rides were common when he was coming up through the Montreal Exposrsquo system in the late 1980s

Johnson frequently shares stories like this with pitchers throughout the Diamondbacksrsquo organization in his current role as a special assistant to team president and CEO Derrick Hall He prefers telling tales of his challenges rather than accounts of his successes to emphasize the hard work and focus required to be successful

ldquoHey I struggledrdquo Johnson said of his first few years as a professional baseball player ldquoI really did I struggled mightilyrdquo

Those struggles came at the beginning of a 22-year MLB career that was historic He was a five-time Cy Young Award-winner a 10-time All-Star and co-MVP of the 2001 World Series Johnson won 303 games and finished his career with the second-most strikeouts in MLB history

His career will culminate in an induction into the National Baseball Hall of Fame on Sunday

Yet Johnson always goes back to his early days when he speaks to up-and-coming pitchers He played in the minor leagues for four years before finally breaking out with the Seattle Mariners in 1989 at age 25 He particularly

enjoys talking to young players so he can inspire them in the early stages of their careers

ldquoWhen you get to the major leagues you should already be motivatedrdquo Johnson said ldquoThe minor league kids sometimes need to see the light at the end of the tunnel what theyrsquore playing for and what itrsquos going to take to get them thererdquo

Diamondbacks manager Chip Hale saw the value of Johnson relating his experiences to the players during spring training

ldquoHe was pivotal coming in and speaking to them just trying to give them his storyrdquo Hale said ldquoIt was a long road for him and to understand that what he had to go through and the changes he made in his career to become the guy thatrsquos a Hall of Famer now was huge for our guys to hearrdquo

Johnson emphasizes focus and hard work when he speaks to players but his message boils down to one central theme ldquoPitch like itrsquos your last gamerdquo

The message definitely

resonated with members of the Diamondbacks current staff Three-and-a-half months removed from spring training right-hander Jeremy Hellickson was able to quote it verbatim before noting the aspect of Johnsonrsquos game that he most admired

ldquoHe was always fired up always attacking the hitter and going right after himrdquo Hellickson said

Robbie Ray who started the season with the Diamondbacksrsquo Triple-A club had even more contact with Johnson when the retired pitcher flew to Reno to monitor Rayrsquos first bullpen session

Ray said he spoke with Johnson for almost an hour about the mental side of the game

ldquoItrsquos huge even for guys that are here (on the major league roster)rdquo Ray said ldquoIt never hurts to have a Hall of Famer around to talk to Hersquos a huge asset to have hererdquo

But even as Johnson addresses the team during spring training or tours the minor league clubs giving advice and assistance he said hersquos not sure how the players receive his words or if they retain his message

There is no doubt when it comes to Ray and Hellickson Ray recently stated the biggest takeaway from his discussion with Johnson those months ago in Reno

ldquoYou never know which game is going to be your best game until you finish your career Go out there and compete every time like itrsquos your last gamerdquo

Ants can be highly determined insects with the right motivation and they can move an exceptional amount of weight in relation to their tiny size Itrsquos not surprising that Stan Lee would utilize these informative features of the formidable creatures as the source for another superhero The Marvel Cinematic Universe has expanded their reach beyond the well-known heroes bringing in characters to accommodate the ever-expansive world that is being built With ldquoAnt-Manrdquo directed by Peyton Reed the Marvel world of heroes saturates the story of the minuscule hero throughout offering name drops and cameos from other properties Still amidst some of the clunky narrative pieces ldquoAnt-Manrdquo is fun to watch one of the better recent superhero offerings

Dr Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) is a brilliant scientist who created a substance that when utilized with a specially

built suit will shrink the person

wearing it into ant-sized form

while also increasing strength

Dr Pym wanting to keep the

secret of the substance from

falling into the wrong hands

hides his creation A former

proteacutegeacute Darren Cross (Corey

Stoll) has dedicated his life to

recreating Dr Pymrsquos invention

and he is getting closer to finding

success Wanting to thwart

the progress of Cross who is

shopping the technology as

the ultimate military weapon

Dr Pym enlists a former thief named Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) to don the suit to protect the future

There is an ingrained formulaic structure that superhero films fall into too often a Saturday morning cartoon that puts the hero into tumultuous situations that are devoid of danger Yes it has happened that some of the secondary characters in these comic book films donrsquot survive an emotional tool for the narrative but the hero is most often safe ldquoAnt-Manrdquo falls and leaps over some of these trappings and for much of the film the result is positive and enjoyable Peyton Reed who took over directing duties after Edgar Wright left amid creative conflicts moves the film swiftly through the set-up origin with Dr Pym and into the bulk of the conflict with Scott Lang There is a quirky and cartoonish atmosphere throughout much of the film whether the interruptions in action sequences that feels wholly attributed to the style of Edgar Wright or the arrative comedic breaks that undercut many of the dramatic scenes The tone of the film is never set too serious but this isnrsquot reflected in the crafting of the Ant-Man character which takes the superhero completely seriously This helps in making the Ant-Man and his associated abilities feel more significant than silly

Paul Rudd plays some of the spotlight with his usual smirky charisma though this

characteristic is underutilized and severely hurt when the Ant-Man costume is put on Rudd is simply overshadowed by the mask but is offered one great scene in the Ant-Man uniform where he verbally and physically spares with another Marvel superhero The supporting roles are better Michael Douglas is good as the ornery Dr Pym and Evangeline Lily playing Dr Pymrsquos daughter Hope fits nicely into the mixture of Ruddrsquos comedy and Douglasrsquo straightforwardness The best of the group is Ant-Manrsquos thieving sidekicks played by Michael Pentildea TI and David Dastmalchian who offer the best laughs of the film

ldquoAnt-Manrdquo has an unusual quality of feeling too big and too small at different moments which makes some of the film feel uneven More often than not the film succeeds in making this comic book world interesting transferring from minuscule mayhem amidst enlarged everyday environments right into a normal perspective that registers as minor overlooked disturbances breaks up the typical action monotony these comic book films embrace ldquoAnt-Manrdquo may be one of the smaller lesser-known heroes in the Marvel universe but this film makes it feel just like one of the heavyweights

The well-known American ldquoprimitive artistrdquo Grandma Moses was once asked how she found her inspiration She replied ldquoI look out the window sometimes to seek the color of the shadows and the different greens in the trees but when I get ready to paint I just close my eyes and imagine a scenerdquo Much like Grandma Moses who did not begin painting until later in life local artist Judith Visker also lived an expansive and full life before she jumped into a box of paints brushes in hand and never looked back

Judith was raised on a farm in southwestern Minnesota She attended a very small local school in Ellsworth MN with

very limited resources for visual arts appreciation or gaining exposure to the broader world of art Judith was keenly interested in the visual arts in the spirit of her close family member second cousin Robert Rauschenburg Completing high school Judith went on to nursing school at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls SD for three years receiving a Diploma of Nursing In the next 30 years Judith enjoyed a career in nursing as a RN In 1990 Judith returned to college at Minnesota State University Mankato graduating in 1998 with her Bachelors of Fine Arts Judith then went on to complete her Masters in Studio Art in 2002 She has continued to keep current by attending workshops offered by well-known artists Judith credits

them with influencing her own growing and changing body of work As she reflects back to when she first started painting she said she now has left the reference to photos behind as a result becoming more stylized

and non-objective in her subject matter Judith refers to it as linear expressionism

Most days will find Judith at her studio at Wham Community Art Center in Surprise There she serves as the Gallery

Director and she loves being around the creative people that work and show their creations in this open community space Most of Judithrsquos work is done with acrylic paints Occasionally she works in oils but those are done in her home studio She stays active in her community of Surprise teaching classes and doing demonstrations for other artists as well

Judith also shows her work throughout the valley She states her favorite open studio show of the year is definitely the Hidden in the Hills Studio Tour sponsored by the Sonoran Arts League the last two weekend of every November Judith enjoys meeting her clients and talking about her painting methods and inspiration As she will tell you she loves every part of the painting process from stretching her own canvas creating a thunder of color and pop of form across the canvas right through to the final coat of protective varnish Her astonishingly visually quilted works create awe-inspiring patterns of color

School administrators scrambling again to hire teachers as school year looms

NORTH VALLEY ndash Arizona officials say there are at least 1000 vacant teacher positions to fill with just weeks left until the school year starts around the state

Itrsquos not the first time school districts have found themselves scrambling to hire teachers in Arizona where officials say low salaries lack of support and high turnover rates combine to make summers a stressful time for administrators

ldquoWersquove been working very hard since the spring to fill all our positionsrdquo said Balsz School District Superintendent Jeffrey Smith

He said this week that the district has ldquoabout four maybe fiverdquo teacher openings and no guarantees they will be filled by the July 27 start of school

At Cave Creek Unified School District Superintendent Debbi Burdick said ldquoItrsquos badrdquo

Burdick said she is trying to fill six teaching slots and the districtrsquos governing board even approved a $4000 signing bonus for qualified special education or middle school math teachers But shersquos still looking

ldquoWersquore concerned and for many of the positions we have open we do not even have one applicantrdquo Burdick said

They are not the only schools in that situation nor is this

the only year itrsquos happened The Arizona Department of Education created an Educator Retention and Recruitment Task Force in response to ldquorising concerns regarding the shortage of effective teachers and high turnover rates of educators in Arizona schoolsrdquo

That task forcersquos report in January cited many of the same problems that educators around the state point to relatively low pay high turnover rates that result in little mentorship of young teachers and an increasing workload for an increasingly under-appreciated job

And the situation is likely get worse with 25 percent of the statersquos roughly 60000 teachers eligible to retire within the next five years said Cecilia

Johnson the state Education Departmentrsquos associate superintendent of highly effective teachers and leaders

Heidi Vega spokeswoman for the Arizona School Boards Association said there are many factors in play behind the vacancies but ldquoFirst of all of course the budgetrdquo

Vega said some teachers havenrsquot had a raise in six or seven years The state routinely ranks near the bottom when it comes to per-pupil spending she noted

Johnson said the average salary for a teacher in Arizona is $47000 ndash well below the $54000 national average ndash and an average starting salary in the state is $32000

ldquoI personally donrsquot necessarily believe that teachers become teachers because of the payrdquo

Vega said ldquoThey become teachers because they want to make a difference in impactrdquo

Still she said it can be difficult to ldquostay in the field and not even receive any type of cost of living salary increase or any type of increase and just trying to live off a certain income for 15 yearsrdquo

ldquoIt is difficult Itrsquos challenging And I think many teachers just get frustrated and many teachers have second jobsrdquo Vega said

That difficulty could be behind a drop in the number of students majoring in education in college experts said another reason for the apparent teacher shortfall

Once in the profession Johnson said teachers face greater accountability requirements and more demands of their time than they used to Those demands ldquorequire them to take less and less time in teaching what they believe as experts should be taughtrdquo she said

Vega said school administrators have pushed lawmakers for more funding and tried to implement policies that spread the word about what a great profession teaching is while showing appreciation for teachers who go above and beyond

But itrsquos slow goingSmith said the state hasnrsquot

demonstrated a commitment to public education and Burdick said that we still ldquojust donrsquot seem to have the infrastructure or the supportrdquo resulting in teachers going elsewhere

The loss of experienced teachers leaves the state with an even bigger job of filling positions year after year Johnson said And it drains away experience that Vega said is vital to young teachers

ldquoYou need that mentorshiprdquo she said

Figuring out how many teachers are needed can be a challenge Vega said The count in the summer can change as students move or transfer leaving districts to wonder ldquoAre we down a teacher Are we up a teacherrdquo

If they canrsquot find full-time teachers districts are forced to rely on long-term substitutes which present other problems Parents are ldquovery concerned that their students arenrsquot getting the quality education they would expect when we have so many vacanciesrdquo Johnson said

But that doesnrsquot mean district will hire anybody just to have a full-time teacher

ldquoWersquore extremely picky in our district We will not hire someone just to put a body in front of studentsrdquo Burdick said ldquoWe expect someone to be of excellent qualityrdquo

ADOT enhances security of driver license application process

NORTH VALLEY ndash The Arizona Department of Transportation has implemented facial recognition technology in the application process for state-issued credentials which the department says will help curb identity theft and fraud

An applicant for a new or duplicate driver license or state ID card at an ADOT Motor Vehicle Division or Authorized Third Party office will have their photo taken at the beginning of the process Facial recognition during the ldquoPhoto Firstrdquo review process occurs seamlessly and without delay as the customer continues through the application process

In 2012 ADOT Motor Vehicle Division implemented a Photo First approach to aid in the detection of and prevention of fraud forgery and identity theft In 2014 ADOT Motor Vehicle Division implemented Central Credential Issuance eliminating credentials being issued at the MVD or Authorized Third Party offices Both processes have contributed to a more comprehensive review of applications along with providing more time to identify possible fraudulent submissions

One of the best screening formats in the detection of identity theft attempted fraud or forgery in the application process has always been the ADOT

Motor Vehicle Division customer service representatives who initially review all documents submitted in the application packet During this initial screening process of the application packet by ADOT employees possible file errors or fraudulent submissions are detected

ldquoFacial recognition technology supports the commitment by ADOT to protect the privacy of its customers and to maintain the integrity and accuracy of the credential issuance processrdquo said ADOT Director John Halikowski ldquoThis technology enables us to fight against fraud and identity theftrdquo

The technology provides an effective screening method to identify errors in customer records in the state driver license database and to prevent fraudulent attempts to obtain an Arizona driver license or identification card It also allows ADOT to develop the new federally compliant Voluntary Travel ID according to the requirements outlined in the federal REAL ID Act of 2005

When a credential application record generates an alert resulting from the facial recognition technology the system will automatically perform an additional review of the record to identify and correct any possible file errors If the system verifies it is not a file error the record will then undergo a comprehensive review by personnel in the ADOT Office of the Inspector General

ldquoThis technology allows us to take a proactive approach to protecting peoplersquos identities and stopping fraudrdquo said ADOT Assistant Director Terry Conner who leads the Enforcement and Compliance Division ldquoOur detectives are already working investigations after reviewing reliable information provided by the systemrdquo
