We are proud to share with you all
that we accomplished this year. God’s
Love We Deliver cooked and home
delivered nearly 1.8 million meals to
more than 7,000 of our neighbors
affected by severe and chronic illness
– our clients, their children and their
senior caregivers. In September, we
marked an important milestone as
we cooked, packaged, and delivered
our 20 millionth meal. We are most
grateful to our generous supporters
and remarkable volunteers who helped
make 2018 such a fantastic year.
Over the past 10 years, demand
for the services that God’s Love We
Deliver provides has grown by 150%.
This significant growth has challenged
us to think in new and different ways
to ensure that our program continues
to be effective, targeted, and
sustainable. In 2018, we developed and
launched a new Strategic Plan and are
poised to take the next critical steps
in meeting the challenges presented
by the changing needs of our clients,
the growing list of providers who
are counting on us as partners, and
the changing demographics of the
communities we serve.
Through this Strategic Plan, we
reaffirm our mission to providing
the highest quality services to
clients, referral partners, volunteers,
staff, policy makers, donors, and
our broader community. We look to
become the “Organization of Choice”
in every way for each stakeholder
through our efforts. And, we commit
to doing this in a financially and
programmatically sustainable way.
At God’s Love, we consistently
deliver a gold-standard program that
serves our clients’ most pressing food
and nutrition needs. This year, our

introduced 65 new menu items,
including entrées with cultural
diversity and breakfast choices for
our renal clients. We also translated
our guide “Nutrition Tips for Older
Adults” into Spanish.
We made tremendous progress
in achieving better integration of
food and nutrition services into the
healthcare continuum. In January,
Congressman Jim McGovern of
Massachusetts, the founder and co-
chair of the House Hunger Caucus,
launched the new bipartisan Food is
Medicine Working Group, and in May,
we had the honor of presenting the
work of our national Food is Medicine
Coalition at a Congressional Briefing
in Washington, DC. A growing body
of research shows that the medically
tailored meal intervention we provide
improves health outcomes and
reduces healthcare costs, and we
continue to garner greater national
support for our work.
In September, nearly 50 Managed
Long-Term Care providers gathered
at God’s Love for the first annual
Community Partners Health Expo.
Attendees were impressed by a
series of presentations, a tasting of
some of the meals we provide to our
clients, and a tour of our facility.
We are making great strides
toward promoting the God’s Love
program and increasing our visibility.
This year, we developed “Healthcare
Starts with Healthy Food” PSAs for
The Wall Street Journal, which had
nationwide circulation.
God’s Love works hard every day
to ensure that we are attracting
and retaining the best volunteers
and staff in a competitive
marketplace. In 2018, we celebrated
our volunteers with our “1 of Over
10,000 Volunteers” campaign, which
included photos of our volunteers
in nearby subway stations. We are
deeply grateful for our more than
13,000 volunteers without whom
we simply would not be able to
accomplish our important mission.
Over our 33-year history, God’s
Love has undergone continuous
change and improvement in every
aspect of our work – from client
services to nutrition, from kitchen
to delivery, from volunteer services
to fundraising. However, no matter
how much we have changed, we
have kept constant our commitment
to providing meals and nutrition
services to people who are too sick
to shop or cook for themselves. From
one woman delivering one meal to a
man dying of AIDS in 1985 to today,
where 100 staff members and 13,000
volunteers work together to cook
and deliver 1.8 million meals to 7,000
individuals, God’s Love has always
been a beacon of hope, respect,
dignity, and love in our community.
With your help, we are able to
provide the life-sustaining meals and
nutrition services that our clients and
their families need – free of charge to
them and full of love. Thank you so
much for your support.
Sincerely,
Karen and Scott
A Letter from Board Chair Scott Bruckner and President & CEO Karen Pearl
When Paul became sick, your generosity helped God’s Love deliver his nutritious meals during a time of change. Now, you can help thousands more of our most vulnerable neighbors whose lives have been affected by serious illness.
Your gift could offer hope to someone like Paul.
God’s Love is anticipating another kind of change – our imminent return to our newly renovated building in SoHo. Demand for our nourishing meals has grown 94% in the last eight years. Having helped thousands of vulnerable New Yorkers living with HIV/AIDS, cancer, and other life-altering illnesses, it was finally necessary to expand our kitchen and delivery facilities. Our program is helping to save lives by responding to the urgent crises of hunger and serious illness. As we celebrate our 30th anniversary in May, it is imperative to remember that with an always-rising need for our meals, it becomes harder and harder everyday to achieve our critical mission.
That’s why your financial support is so urgently needed right now.
Please, make a gift today to ensure God’s Love is there for clients in their critical time of need.
Your gift will bring individually tailored meals and nutrition counseling to people living with life-altering illnesses such as HIV/AIDS, cancer, multiple sclerosis and Alzheimer’s disease. Your gift will also help improve our clients’ quality of life, allowing them to better enjoy all the wonderful attributes of springtime.
A gift of any size makes a difference, and is so appreciated. I hope I can count on you. I want to thank you for your committed support that allows us to cook and deliver nutritious meals to our clients, their children, and their caregivers.
Please join God’s Love today in providing love, hope, and nutritious meals to our clients each and every day.
Thank you so much for being as generous as possible.
All my best,
Karen PearlPresident & CEO
P.S. As we mark the 30th anniversary of God’s Love, I hope you will make a gift – any amount, $25, $50, or $75 – that will help us to serve all of our clients in every season. Thank you.

The mission of God’s Love We Deliver
is to improve the health and well-
being of men, women and children
living with HIV/AIDS, cancer and
other serious illnesses by alleviating
hunger and malnutrition. We
prepare and home-deliver nutritious,
individually tailored meals to people
who, because of their illness, are
unable to provide or prepare meals
for themselves. We also provide
illness-specific nutrition education
and counseling to our clients,
families, care providers and other
service organizations. All of
our services are provided free to
clients without regard to income.
God’s Love We Deliver is a non-
sectarian organization.
Our Mission “ I was so scared. I didn’t think anyone could help me. If it weren’t
for God’s Love, I don’t know what I would do. Now, I have food for
my son and I have food for myself. It’s such a relief. I have so many
other things to worry about but with God’s Love, I feel comfort.
Every day I am grateful that the people of God’s Love can be so
generous with their time, helping to support a family they don’t
even know.”

Sr. Director External Program Affairs Dorella Walters, President & CEO Karen Pearl, Director of Nutrition Services Lisa Zullig, Policy & Grants Coordinator Danielle Christenson & Director of Policy & Planning Alissa Wassung in Washington, D.C. for the Food is Medicine Coalition Symposium
God’s Love seeks to ensure that the
medically tailored meal intervention is
part of the continuum of healthcare,
broadly accessible to those who need
it, and always of the highest quality.
Our meal program is a low cost, high
impact intervention, grounded
in the community, that improves
health and saves critical healthcare
dollars by keeping people in their
homes when they are sick, rather
than in more expensive hospitals or
nursing homes.
Our agenda is simple:• We engage in research that
advances the reality that food is
medicine.
• We lead innovation efforts that allow
us to reach the most vulnerable in
our communities.
• We advocate on the local, state and
national level to incorporate the
medically tailored meal intervention
into healthcare for people living
with severe and chronic illness.
Food is Medicine Coalition: God’s Love We Deliver chairs
the national Food is Medicine
Coalition, a volunteer association
of nonprofit medically tailored
meal providers across the country
convened to:
• Provide a complete, evidence-
based, medical food and nutrition
intervention to critically and
chronically ill people in their
communities.
• Advance public policy that supports
access to medically tailored food
and nutrition services for people
with severe and/or chronic illnesses.
• Promote research on the efficacy
of food and nutrition services on
health outcomes and cost of care.
• Share best practices in the
provision of medically tailored meals
and of nutrition education and
counseling.

Nutrition is our key ingredient.Every client on our program
works with a Registered Dietitian
Nutritionist to make sure we design
the custom meal program that
best meets their specific medical
and nutritional requirements.
Additionally, every client receives
unlimited nutrition counseling. We are
proud of this signature difference –
individualized nutrition attention sets
us apart from all other meal programs
in New York City.
Every day, our meals are individually
tailored with the freshest and
highest quality ingredients to ensure
that our clients always receive
optimum nutritional value. From
the development of our therapeutic
menus, to nutrition counseling, to
the safe delivery of our meals, we
see the power of food as medicine
and understand the significance of
proper nutrition.

At God’s Love, we understand that the health and well-being of our clients are dependent on more than just nutrition – it’s also about love. These are just a few of the special touches we provide for our clients in addition to home-delivered, medically tailored meals We strive to make the holidays
brighter for our clients. On
Thanksgiving and again in late
December, we provide a special
meal, plus a guest meal so clients
can invite a friend or family member
to spend the holiday with them.
Every year, God’s Love delivers
Emergency Meal Kits to our clients.
These kits contain non-perishable
goods such as granola bars, water,
canned tuna and more, so that none
of our clients must go hungry in the
unlikely event that God’s Love is
forced to miss a delivery day.
And because every birthday
is worth celebrating, Chuck,
our famous baker, bakes and
personalizes a birthday cake for
every client. We also send a card
created by local schoolchildren, with
special wishes for this special day.

The seventh Food is Medicine Coalition National Symposium
took place in Washington, DC in
September. It brought together more
than 25 organizations from across the
country to discuss food and nutrition
services, healthcare contracting,
federal funding and policy, research,
and communications. In Hill visits,
we educated public officials on the
efficacy of medically tailored meals and
advocated for the inclusion of these
services for people living with severe
illness in healthcare policy reform.
In September, God’s Love marked
an historic achievement as we cooked,
packed and delivered our 20 millionth meal. We celebrated with many
volunteers, supporters and friends, and
just a few months later we reached an
even bigger milestone by delivering our
21 millionth meal.
More than 45 staff from our Managed
Long-Term Care partner organizations
convened at our SoHo headquarters
in September as we hosted our first
Community Partners Expo with the
theme “Food is Medicine.”
In January, Congressman Jim
McGovern of Massachusetts, the
founder and co-chair of the House
Hunger Caucus and great friend of
God’s Love, hosted a Congressional
Briefing to launch the new bipartisan
Food is Medicine Working Group.
Through this partnership, we helped

intake and data.
During National Volunteer Week in
April, we launched our campaign, “1 of Over 10,000 Volunteers.” All month
long, photos celebrating our volunteers
hung in the Spring Street C/E and
Houston Street 1 subway stations.
We were thrilled to introduce our
national “Healthcare Starts with Healthy Food” PSA, which ran in The
Wall Street Journal, announcing to the
nation what we know to be true: that
food is medicine and food is love.
In June, Heidi Klum rolled up her
sleeves to chop veggies and pack
children’s breakfast kits in the kitchen
in support of our Make Breakfast Count campaign.
Young HeartsIn the spring, several classes of
students from Friends Seminary
helped plant our rooftop garden with
seedlings grown in class. The garden
is home to a variety of student-grown
herbs.
During the holidays, we are delighted
to have our young hearts join us for
a festive cookie and card decorating
party with Chuck the Baker. These
holiday cards are then delivered to our
clients and their children.

“ God’s Love has been a big change for me. I love the fresh vegetables! I feel more energized, like I could conquer the world,” said our client, Craig.
Craig is 78 and lives with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. He grew up in Minnesota but has
lived in the same Upper West Side
apartment in Manhattan for the past
55 years. Before he got sick, he was a
passionate singer and performer who
traveled the world with his partner
of 23 years. During his time in show
business, Craig performed in New
York City, Chicago and London, and
was on the Board of the Spectrum
Theatre. He knew everyone from
Julie Andrews to Judy Garland. It was
an exciting time, and Craig lived an
exciting life.
Today, Craig is alone, uses a
wheelchair, and takes 32 pills every
day to stay alive. It has been three
years since he has been able to leave
his apartment, and Craig suspects
he might not even recognize his own
neighborhood now.
Before God’s Love, Craig was
worried about how he would survive
on his own. Getting sick changed
everything and he had never
had to ask for help before. When
Craig reached out to God’s Love,
he immediately began receiving
nutritious, home-delivered meals
tailored specifically for him and his
diagnosis.
“God’s Love has been a big change
for me. I love the fresh vegetables!
I feel more energized, like I could
conquer the world,” Craig says. He
also loves the relationship he has
developed with our delivery driver
Jason. Craig does not get many

Craig expressed his gratitude to
God’s Love for providing comfort,
love, and nutritious meals, and for
making his life a little easier: “Please
keep going. You help so much.”

Funding from generous
individuals, foundations,
corporations, and government
sources provides a diversified
base of support, helping to
ensure that we can continue
our work without overreliance
on one revenue stream. We
work hard to guarantee that
valuable contributions are
used on behalf of our clients.
In FY2018, 77% of all revenue
went directly to client services.
Our donors expect no less.

This year at God’s Love We Deliver,
we relied on the generous support
of 16,359 donors – individuals,
corporations and foundations – for
the vast majority of the funding
that makes the fulfillment of our
important mission possible. In fact,
every year private contributions
account for approximately 70%
of the total funding God’s Love
receives. The other 30% comes from
the government and managed care
programs. That’s why every single
donation, regardless of size, helps
provide delicious meals and nutrition
counseling for someone living with a
life-altering illness.

Comprised of a growing group of special
individuals who make annual gifts of $1,000 or
more, the valued members of the Golden Heart
Society provide critical program support which
ensures that no person faces the dual crises of
hunger and severe illness.
Monthly donations provide donors with an easy
way to support our clients and ensure a steady
source of good nutrition, hope and dignity for
the people and their families who depend on
our meals.
Planned gifts, including bequests, create an
extraordinary opportunity to provide the much-
needed resources that will enable us to help
the seriously ill today and well into the future.
Friends who include God’s Love in their estate
plans are invited to join our Legacy Society.“ The best legacy you can leave is one that keeps on giving. The Legacy Society keeps your memory alive. And for me it’s important that the support I give God’s Love We Deliver carries on.” — Vicente Wolf, Interior Designer and Legacy Society Ambassador
