FOOD IS A TRIP

Page 2: Food is aTrip

Food security in the GGA is a major concern within urban areas, and the overall cost and distance travelled associated with the transportation of food is not feasible to sustain its population and environment in 2040.

78% of the food retail market is monopolized by three big-box grocers — Loblaws, Sobeys and Metro.

SMALL SCALEPedestrian transport has been calculated to account for journeys of around 500 m, at a rate of 3km/hr and can accomodate up to 35 L.

Cycling can account for journeys of up to 30km radius and at a rate of up to 20 k/h, with a capacity of around 200 L per journey.

MEDIUM SCALEStreetcars, subway, buses and medium sized trucks for neigh-bour hood scale vehicles.

LARGE SCALEShipping and rail will cover the large scale transport option.

CHOOSE DIFFUSION BECAUSE...WHY THIS SYSTEM DESIGN IS AWESOME

A wider variety of fresh produce is available across the whole of our urban area.

Opportunities for entrepreneurship and innovation are increased.

Increased food security for the region.

Improved animal welfare, yay happy cows!

Increase access to local and fresh foods

Integrate our food and transportation system
