At Happy Feet Pedorthics we have 2 brands of medical

Sigvaris has written the following article for Happy Feet

Pedorthics' March Newsletter. Tilo will also be working

with our team at our “vein day” or Leg Health Day, as a

consultant fitting and advising our clients on 24th May

2016, at our pedorthic facility in Moonee Ponds.

The true story about the Medical Compression garments!

…still nowadays the reputation of medical compression

garments is not the best. Maybe we have in mind the ones

that our grandmas were wearing back then.

So much has changed in the last 20 years and with all the

research and the modern technical possibilities we have – in these days, we

are talking about very comfortable and good looking products which give us a

fantastic medical benefit – they don’t have much to do with what we had be-

fore!

To actually fulfil all these criterions the involved professionals, e.g. the manu-

facturer and especially we as a retailer are asked to do a good job to help you

as our client.

The best time to measure your legs or your arm is in

the early morning, before swelling. MCG (medical

compression garment) are measured by the

circumferences of your limbs (not shoe size) to make

sure that we can choose the right size for your leg or

arm. SIGVARIS comes up with 12 different sizes off the

shelf. They also offer 3 different lengths. If we can’t fit

you in a size off the shelf we do custom made. We

guarantee that you are fitted correctly. We show you

how to put the garments on and take them off, so

that you will be able to do it by yourself at home. We

will make you familiar with the different stocking

applicators. We’ll give you all the information you need regarding how to take

care of your garment, to make sure that the life span lasts. The fact that we

measure you and we stay in contact with you,

helps us to recommend the right style and fabric

for you.

DVA has streamlined the process for Medical Grade Footwear (MGF) suppliers

to provide MGF products and services to DVA clients. By maximising the

number suppliers Veterans have easier access to MGF footwear. At Happy

Feet Pedorthics ease of access to Medical Grade Footwear close to their

homes was the very reason we, at Happy Feet Pedorthics, began, way back

there in the history of our business, to become a DVA supplier for Veterans.

So the steps broadly, for eligible veterans to be supplied with MGF:

To be eligible for MGF without prior approval the veteran needs to be a gold

card holder.

The referring podiatrist is the one who determines then if the veteran is clinically eligible for MGF, documenting this on a

prescription for the Veteran, along with the Veteran’s footwear history.

Having received the script as the MGF supplier, we at Happy Feet Pedorthics, supply the shoes to the eligible Veteran.

As a MGF supplier the pedorthist no longer needs to obtain prior approval from DVA before supplying readymade MGF to

eligible Veterans. However as supplier the pedorthist has to meet DVA contractual obligations.

The tricky part at times on the ground is that the podiatrist and the pedorthist need to work even more closely together,

ensuring that all decisions are within the guidelines and that all the paperwork is

complete and correct. DVA personal can audit the paperwork of the podiatrist and the

pedorthist (MGF supplier)

An eligible Veteran may have 2 pairs of shoes on their list at any point in time. The

shoes are repairable at no cost to the Veteran. Happy Feet Pedorthics can organise the

repair of and modifications to shoes for Veterans If a gold card holder plays golf or

bowls, the veteran, with a script and a letter from their club evidencing that they are

active members of the club, and hence need appropriate shoes are eligible for a

recreational pair. Referrers are invited to share your experiences about the DVA no prior approval as part of our event - Do it more easily and your patients will talk more about you! to be held on the following dates: Bass Coast: Wednesday – April 6 2016 - 6 to 8 pm at the regularly held Foot School, held in San Remo, please ring Clare 0426 251 345 for details.
