FOCUS ON CULTURE: LOCAL SPORTS STARS Most cities have their own local sports stars. In Arequipa, Alex Olmedo was one of them. In 1959, he became one of the best tennis players in the world. Because of his múltiple victories and trophies, in 1987, he was admitted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame. Gaby Pérez del Solar, born in Ica, was one the greatest volleyball players in our country. Because of her many titles, including a silver medal in the Olympic Games of Seoul in 1988, she was included in the Volleyball Hall of Fame in 2010.
