FOCUS GROUP: FEATURE PAGE

Page 2: Focus group feature page

Before creating my mock up’s I asked my focus group which of the following topics they would be most interested in reading on a feature page:1. DREAMLAND 2. TURNER CONTEMPORARY 3. MARLOWE THEATRE 4. UNIVERSITY OF KENT 5. RAMSGATE MUSIC HALL6. WINTER GARDENS

The results were as follows: 1. 6/142. 2/143. 1/144. 4/145. 1/146. 0/14

After collecting this research I found that Dreamland and University of Kent had the highest number of votes. Because I was uncertain on focusing my feature page on Dreamland (which had the overall highest number of votes) I asked each person who voted for these topics for their reasons. Overall, the general response was as following:

DREAMLAND:• It’s relatively new and will therefore be exciting for the audience to read

about.• Because it is new it will be useful for the audience to gain information on the

attraction.• It’s one of the main attractions in Thanet. • It is an attraction which has been anticipated for a long time.

UNIVERSITY OF KENT:• The majority of my focus group are currently applying to University, and

would therefore find it useful and interesting to read about the University Of Kent.

• It is one of the main topics in Canterbury. • It is a suitable topic for my target audience.• Focusing on the university of Kent would be suitable to the theme as it is a

county magazine.

• After gathering this information I decided to focus my feature page on the University of Kent. This is because I found that it would be better suited to the target audience of my magazine. For example, Dreamland would be better suited to a family with young children who are looking for activities to take part in, rather than teenagers and young adults. Whereas many of my target audience will either be applying to or currently attending university. Therefore I think it will interest my target audience more than the Dreamland feature would.

• Dreamland is also an attraction in Margate so therefore may be suited better to a magazine which is only focusing on Thanet. Because my magazine is focusing on Kent, I think that it would be more in tone with the theme of the magazine to focus my feature page on the University of Kent.
