The following concept describes the relativityof time for me: One hour in the company ofa beautiful woman feels like a second. Puttingyour hand on a hot stove for a second feelslike an hour.Time doesnt change ... we all get 86 400seconds a day. But, our perception of timedoes change. When were doing somethingthat we are not that into, time can feel as if itis expanding. The task at hand becomes adrudgery.But, when were doing something that reallyintrigues us and keeps our attention, beforewe know it hours have gone and it was anabsolute pleasure.How often do we get into what MihalyCsikszentmihalyi referred to as flow?

When it happens, it is a beautiful thing.Before you continue reading further, take amoment to think about when you didsomething and you werent aware of the timethat went by because you were so into it.In my case, I get into flow state when Implaying a game of chess, when Im writingan article or a book or when (I know this onemay sound weird to you) Im washingdishes.Im totally vested in the moment and not theoutcome. I know what the ideal outcome isfor me and that lies on the outskirts of myconsciousness. Im in flow when Im in themoment. When Im present.When Im trying to create beautiful art.Because, when you think about it, were allartists and were all trying to createmasterpieces. If youre not in awe that youcan read this article and the rest in thispublication in print, you should be.Because if it wasnt for the amazing art ofGutenberg and the gift of printing he gaveall of us, intellectually at least, wed probablyall still be in the dark ages. For me a beautiful

I have a notion that to get intoflow we should be totally focused on theprocess and not on the outcome. Dont getme wrong, the goal should be clear. But, onceit is set, the magic happens when we focuson the process of getting there.The more we are pre-sent in anything we do,the more we enjoy the journey and the happierwe are.

When we are in flow we have no time to worryabout past or future. We are in a state ofharmony. When we are in flow we feel incontrol.Everyday frustrations are removed from ourconsciousness when we are in flow. I forinstance, cant be focused on writing anarticle and worry about an unreasonable clientat the same time.
