Position Scope


The Director of Intercollegiate Athletics at FloridaAtlantic University is responsible to the President fordeveloping and overseeing the Intercollegiate AthleticProgram. The Director is responsible for establishingsound management practices and for implementing andinterpreting policies to achieve these ends. The Director



will ensure compliance with all NCAA and any affiliatedconference regulations, and is charged with theresponsibility that all members of the Athletic Departmentstaff have full knowledge and abide by the same rulesand regulations. The Director is responsible for thescheduling of all conference and non-conference contestsfor all intercollegiate sports.

The Director shall be knowledgeable and have the abilityto implement and follow policies and regulations of theUniversity and all regulatory bodies. The Director shalldevelop and recommend to the University President anannual operating budget under established Universityprocedure. The Director shall administer and operatewithin that budget approved by the Chief FinancialOfficer. The Director shall recommend students for allathletic scholarships with the appropriate terms andconditions and insure student athlete's eligibility tocontinue on scholarship. Understands and follows therules and regulations of the NCAA, Conference andUniversity Policies & Procedures.


The Director is responsible for the overall direction andsupervision of existing programs and the development ofall new programs. The Director shall advise the Presidentand University Athletics Advisory Board on a regularbasis of the fiscal operations and activities of the area.The Director shall provide general direction andparticipants in fund raising activities for intercollegiateathletics.


The Director of Intercollegiate Athletics has regularcontact with students, faculty, staff, alumni and theUniversity community at large. Outside contact includessports groups, counterparts from other universities andconference affiliations. The Director will also haveregular contact with the FAU Foundation to assist in thecoordination of alumni programs and developing BoosterClubs and assist the Vice President for UniversityAdvancement in determining effective strategies for thedevelopment of outside sources of income.


The Director is responsible for the formation andsubmittal of the Athletic Department budgets andmonitoring of expenditures to assure that the Divisionstays within the approved annual operating budget. The Director of Intercollegiate Athletics has access toinformation relating to NCAA compliance, academiceligibility. To serve as legal counselor to the President. Advises theVice Presidents and various deans and directors withregard to legal matters. Functions - Reviewing of contracts, correspondence, complaints,policies, etc. for legal significance. Preparing of legal documents such as easements, leaseswaiver forms, purchase agreements, etc. Meeting with various groups of administrators andmanagers, usually for the purpose of reviewingdepartment-wide issues. Representing and defending the University in any and alladversary proceedings before courts or other hearingbodies. Delegation and supervision of these functions to anAssociate University Attorney. Serving as liaison with the SUS and/or its severalattorneys with regard to system-wide legal issues andcases. Individual is responsible for the reconciliation of teamrelated travel expenses according to accepted rules andregulations as established by the university and the state.Head Coach makes recommendations regarding programneeds as they apply to the overall budget and reviews allbudgetary requests including: travel, equipmentpurchases, recruiting, cash advances and scholarshipallocations.

Position Scope

Oversees the development of the University's annualoperating budget of $587 million and ensures thatappropriate reports are provided to the President, theBoard of Trustees and the Board of Governors.

Responsible for the financial accounting system andfinancial reports and statistical data concerning thefinancial health of the University.

Develops and implements a comprehensive, multi-yearfinancial model to guide strategic decision makingthrough detailed analysis and projections.
