ABOUT FLORIADE 2014FLORIADE – AUSTRALIA’S CELEBRATION OF SPRING

Watch your business flower: be part of the biggest flower festival in the Southern Hemisphere!

Held in the heart of the city in Canberra’s beautiful Commonwealth Park, Floriadeis Australia’s premier spring festival and a world-class floral spectacular!

Over one million blooms create a stunning backdrop to a month-long festival filled with music, cultural celebrations, artistic displays, entertainment and recreational activities.

Floriade began in 1988 as a spectacular commemoration of Australia’s bicentenary and Canberra’s 75th birthday. Now 26 years on, Floriade looks forward to more growth as it progresses into its next century after attracting 448,987 visitors in 2013.

Floriade 2014 – Passion Saturday 13 September — Sunday 12 October

Floriade, the national capital’s annual flagship tourism event, is the largest floral festival in the Southern Hemisphere. Each year the park is filled with more than one million blooms, which are divided among a variety of garden beds designed to fit within an overarching theme. Celebrate the arrival of spring in style with 30 days of celebration including cooking demonstrations, gardening tips, recreational activities for kids and families, entertainment, artistic displays and horticultural workshops, all peppered with a selection of high profile celebrities to add some spice.

This year’s theme is Passion, which could be translated as romance, love or connectedness. Passion is about more than just love between people; this could be expressed through a love for life, for the planet or being passionate about arts, business, sports, food and hobbies.

Passion is:

an intense desire or enthusiasm for something: the English have a passion for gardens, or

a thing arousing great enthusiasm: modern furniture is a particular passion of Bill’s

Visitors will unwind as they meander through the splendid garden beds; enjoy fabulous entertainment; enjoy family time with great kids’ activities; wise up with a range of informative demonstrations and rejuvenate with a range of delicious food and wine.

PRESENTATIONStand out to the crowd!

Presentation and qualityQuality stands, products and services, and good presentation attract the customer.

ThemeCreate more atmosphere by using costumed staff, props, colourful and creative product presentation.

Interact with customersSmile, say hello. Encourage potential customers to engage all their senses. Allow customers to interact with your product. An example is product sampling.

Use your space wiselyWhen designing your site, take into consideration the amount of space required to operate effectively. Is your space going to be large enough to accommodate you, your staff, your products and customers?

Be clear and conciseYou only have a brief moment to capture the attention of a potential buyer as they walk past your stand.

Review, develop and changeContinuous development and change is essential. If your stand looks the same as last time potential customers may just walk by thinking that ‘nothing is new there’.

Consider the environmentWe ask all traders to use environmentally friendly packaging and adopt environmental practices in their stand design and when operational.

Floriade trader independent panelAll submissions are evaluated by an independent panel. The panel is made up of staff members from the ACT Government from outside of the Events Team.

The panel generally consists of a chairperson and two other members and their role is to assess each application in an objective and fair manner looking at all aspects of the application. Therefore, it is vitally important that all relevant information has been provided to enable the panel to make an informed decision.

These decisions are the basis of the offers that are to be made to each successful potential trader and indicate the importance of providing all of the requested information.

Selection processEach application is evaluated, by the panel, and scores are awarded against each criterion. Each application is evaluated and scored on its own merit. The criteria, and the marks allocated to the criteria, are set out below.

The scoring is weighted towards the type, suitability, quality and value for money of the product/s. Floriade and Floriade NightFest are also committed to using, and encouraging others to use, environmentally sustainable practices and for this reason applicants are required to provide evidence of how they address sustainability.

Site allocationsOnce each application has been assessed, applicants are ranked based on the total score out of 100. It is from this ranking that allocation takes place. The highest score is allocated first and generally will receive their first preference, then the second highest is allocated and will be allocated their first preference (or second preference if their first has already been allocated). Once an applicant’s preferences are no longer available a suitable alternative site will be offered. This process continues until all sites have been allocated.

Generally there are more applicants than sites available and, where possible, additional sites may be added to meet the demand. This is dependent on space and other activities that may be occurring in and around the Village.

Site offersOnce the rankings and allocations have been completed offers are sent to the successful traders. A site offer includes the following:

• Site offer including site number, size and costs

• Approved product list

• A contract

Please note – Business names and primary products will be included on the site maps included with a site offer.

Site changesIn cases where an initial offer has been made and the applicant wishes to change the allocated site, a site change request must be made in writing. As all sites are initially allocated, it is unlikely that a change of site can be made. Once the first round offers have been finalised the site change request will be considered, if a site has become available, in accordance with the above procedure.

A site change request will only be considered:• Once the original Site Offer and Trader Agreement have been accepted in writing prior to the closing date.

• After the first round offers have closed Monday 28 April

• Providing there are sites available after the first round offers have closed.

Unsuccessful applicantsApplicants who are not allocated a site will be notified in writing. You will also be advised that, after the first round offers have closed, second round offers may be made, again, based on the rankings from the initial selection process. This process continues until all sites have been accepted.
