Following a wonderful summer which saw our busiest July since we reopened, we look forward to a brilliant new season. We hope you’ve enjoyed plays such as Rising Damp and April in Paris, on our stages. Next season, we are delighted (and also slightly scared) to be presenting the spine-tingling CLASSIC GHOSTS, a double-bill of The Signalman by Charles Dickens and M.R. James’s Oh Whistle, And I’ll Come To You, My Lad (see pages 6 - 7).

Last February, Peter Pan on Ice wowed audiences and critics alike with magical storytelling, breathtaking ice dance and jaw-dropping aerial acrobatics, not to mention the Floral stage turning into an ice-rink for the first time. We now can’t wait for next April when The Russian Ice Stars return to our stage for a real Easter treat with BEAUTY AND THE BEAST ON ICE (see pages 8 - 9).

In mid-April, we present the Wirral Première of Helen Forrester’s TWOPENCE TO CROSS THE MERSEY in the new format of a straight stage play. Star casting is to be announced in this much-loved story of a young girl during the 1930s Depression (see pages 10 - 11).

Our new season is bursting with marvellous shows for children, starting with homegrown local productions of CINDERELLA and THE LITTLE MERMAID, then adventure heroes abound in a new OCTONAUTS: DEEP SEA VOLCANO ADVENTURE. February Half Term features THE BASIL BRUSH SHOW - boom! boom! and JURASSIC ADVENTURES (contains mild peril and HUGE DINOSAURS). But the fun doesn’t stop there, as just after Easter, the world’s smallest superhero, TREE FU TOM, comes to our theatre on his first nationwide tour. At the end of April we see the return of more little people in BEN & HOLLY’S LITTLE KINGDOM.

In your new guide you will also find the return of some of your favourite shows together with a few exciting new touring productions.

Turn the page now to see our whole season listings At A Glance.

We hope to see you soon at the Floral. Best wishes, The Floral Pavilion Team

OH, WHISTLE, AND I’LL COME TO YOU, MY LADBY M.R. JAMESM.R. James was a master teller of the creepy ghost story. This is the story of Professor Parkins, a Cambridge academic on an out-of-season holiday at a bleak English east coast hotel in 1907. At an old graveyard near a deserted beach he finds an old bone whistle. On cleaning it, he discovers the inscription: Quis est iste qui venit (“Who is this who is coming?”). Blowing the whistle he awakens a disturbing supernatural force. A terrifying ordeal follows and though his scepticism tries to dismiss his unearthly encounters, his eyes and ears cannot...

THE SIGNALMANBY CHARLES DICKENSSet in 1880, this is Dickens’ exquisitely unnerving tale of a tormented signalman who is haunted by visions of impending disaster on his isolated stretch of line. Can a well meaning traveller, who chances upon the lonely signal box while out walking, calm the man’s fears before he spirals into self destruction?

Both productions star award-winning veteran actor Jack Shepherd, who has a long and distinguished career in film, television and on stage. His awards include a Laurence Olivier Theatre Award, a Plays and Players London Critics’ Award, and a Time Out Award. He is probably best known for his portrayal of Detective Superintendent Charles Wycliffe in the television series Wycliffe. He is joined by Terrence Hardiman (The Demon Headmaster /Cadfael), Dicken Ashworth (Coronation Street /Emmerdale) and a full supporting cast.

All prices include a £1 fee per ticket. No fee to Friends of the Floral.

The producers that brought you the record-breaking musical are delighted to announce the return of Helen Forrester’s Twopence To Cross The Mersey in a new format of a straight stage play. Based on Forrester’s best-selling memoir, Twopence will cross the Mersey for the first time when it visits Wirral’s Floral Pavilion Theatre.

This much-loved account tells the true story of a young girl and her formerly wealthy family as they are suddenly thrown into poverty during the Great Depression of the 1930’s.

Leaving behind the nannies, servants and comfortable middle-class life in the South West of England, they uproot their shattered lives and choose Liverpool as the city to restart and rebuild their dreams and fortune. Unbeknown to them however, they are in for a terrible shock. Loved by many, see Helen’s dramatic, moving and heart-warming tale come to life as she and her family are forced to survive in the slums amongst the streetwise working class.

A full all-star cast to be announced soon.

All prices include a £1 fee per ticket. No fee to Friends of the Floral.

“The feeling of the show is very accurate; the writers have a real understanding of life”HELEN FORRESTER

Basil, Sybil and Manuel return to the Floral Pavilion to brighten up January with ‘a two-hour eat, drink and laugh sensation’ (Daily Telegraph) of highly improvised comedy theatre based on ‘the best British television series of all time’.**

Shambolic service and a ‘70s style 3-course meal are the speciality of the day. At the Floral you do get that sea view, just don’t expect herds of wildebeest, and certainly don’t mention the war!

Faulty Towers The Dining Experience was born in Brisbane in 1997 and made its international debut in 2008 at the Edinburgh Fringe, where it’s sold out every year since. It opened a residency in London’s West End in October 2012 and continues there still. Eight teams of cast now tour the world non-stop.

The cast for Floral Pavilion Theatre features Paul O’Neill as Basil, Donna Gray as Sybil and Ed Howells as Manuel.
