Riparte il Concorso Bandistico Internazionale Flicorno d’Oro, giunto alla quindicesima edizione. Nonostante i venti di crisi economica che stanno colpendo un po’ tutti i paesi europei, di cui non fa eccezione l’Italia, sono 21 le formazioni musicali iscritte. Dopo l’edizione 2012, per certi versi a dir poco trionfale per numero di iscrizioni oltre che per la qualità musicale espressa, un anno questo che marca le difficoltà generali del movimento bandistico.Ciononostante l’impegno organizzativo espresso dall’Associazione Flicorno d’Oro è identico al passato. La Direzione artistica del concorso è sempre nelle mani del Maestro Daniele Carnevali, mentre la giuria internazionale potrà contare alla presidenza il Maestro Franco Cesarini, coadiu-vato poi dai Maestri Franco Benzi, Benoît Chantry, Jacob de Haan, Thomas Ludescher, Károly Neumayer e Armando Saldarini. Colgo qui l’occasione per formulare a tutti loro un sentito grazie per aver accettato di far parte della giuria internazionale. Anche in questa edizione a margine del concorso la presenza di espositori di strumenti musicali, di partiture, di incontri e dibattiti che potranno arricchire tutti coloro che desidereranno trascorrere a Riva del Garda un fine settimana all’insegna della musica e della cultura.Si ripropone quindi l’incontro di culture musicali diverse, che danno al concorso quella peculiarità e distinzione che lo rendono unico in Italia e che fanno della città di Riva del Garda una delle capitali europee della musica bandistica. Fogge e divise multicolori come simboli di appartenenza a culture musicali diverse, accomunate tutte dalla voglia di conoscersi e confrontarsi. Altro dato veramente entusiasmante, la presenza di tantissimi giovani che nelle ultime edizioni hanno avuto l’opportunità di farsi apprezzare per le loro doti artistiche, oltre che dare all’evento un volto nuovo e dinamico. Altro momento significativo del concorso la serata inaugurale, dove oltre ai saluti di rito, avremo modo di ascoltare all’Auditorium della chiesa S. Giuseppe di Riva del Garda il concerto di aper-tura della manifestazione tenuto dalla Civica Filarmonica di Lugano, diretta dal Maestro Franco Cesarini.Immancabile ma comunque doveroso ricordare l’impegno ed il sostegno della Provincia Autonoma di Trento, nella persona dell’assessore Franco Panizza, del comune di Riva del Garda nella persona dell’Assessore Flavia Brunelli, della Regione Trentino Alto Adige, dell’azienda di Promozione Turi-stica dell'Ingarda Trentino, della Federazione Corpi Bandistici di Trento ed al suo neopresidente Renzo Braus, del Bim, bacini imbriferi montani Sarca Garda Mincio, della fondazione Caritro, del ministero italiano beni e attività culturali. A tutti i volontari che nei giorni del concorso si prodigheranno per la miglior riuscita dell’edizione il mio più sentito grazie. Non per ultimo un particolare ringraziamento a Laura Civettini, segretaria e coordinatrice da oltre dieci anni del concorso, che ha deciso di approdare a nuove esperienze lavorative e che in tante edizioni si è fatta conoscere ed apprezzare da tutti gli amici del Flicorno d’Oro. Allo stesso tempo un augurio di buon lavoro a Valentina Civettini che si appresta ad organizzare la sua prima edizione.Auguro a tutti una felice e serena permanenza a Riva del Garda ed alle bande iscritte che il concorso possa regalare nuovi stimoli e rinnovato entusiasmo nel segno della musica.

Once again it’s time for the Flicorno d’Oro International Band Competition, now at its fifteenth edition. In spite of the chilling economic crisis affecting more or less all European countries, Italy included, 21 bands are competing. After the 2012 edition, which from certain points of view was a triumph regarding the number of competitors, as well as the quality of the music involved, this year marks the general difficulties felt by the band movement.Notwithstanding, the organizational commitment by the Associazione Flicorno d’Oro is the same as in the past. Maestro Daniele Carnevali is confirmed as Artistic Director of the competition, and the international jury will be chaired by Maestro Franco Cesarini, assisted by Maestri Franco Benzi, Benoît Chantry, Jacob de Haan, Thomas Ludescher, Károly Neumayer and Armando Saldarini. I wish to take this opportunity to extend my heartfelt thanks to all of them for accepting our invitation to be part of the international jury. This edition will also have parallel events such as exhibitions of musical instruments and scores, meetings and debates that will benefit all those who wish to spend a weekend at Riva del Garda in the pursuit of music and culture.The occasion is an encounter of different musical cultures that distinguish the contest and make it unique in Italy, transforming the city of Riva del Garda into one of the European capitals of band music. Multi-coloured costumes and uniforms are symbols of the different musical cultures of the bands, all united by the wish to make friends and compete with each other. Another truly exciting fact is the presence of lots of young people who took part in past editions, where they had the opportunity to display their artistic talent and give the event a young, dynamic atmosphere.A highly significant moment for the contest is the premier concert during which the ritual speeches are made and we can hear the Lugano Civica Filarmonica, conducted by Maestro Franco Cesarini, in the auditorium of St. Joseph’s Church, Riva del Garda.It is also my duty, and a pleasure, to mention the commitment and support of the Autonomous Provincial District of Trento, represented by Councillor Franco Panizza, the Riva del Garda Munici-pality, represented by Councillor Flavia Brunelli, the Autonomous Regional District of Trentino Alto Adige, the Trento tourist organization Ingarda Trentino, the Trento Provincial Federation of Bands and its new president Renzo Braus, the B.I.M., the Caritro Foundation, and the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities. Special thanks go to the Cassa Rurale Alto Garda, Yamaha Music Europe represented by Gian Battista Corti, the Riva del Garda Trade Fair Authority Fierecongressi, the active cooperation of the Riva del Garda Band and don Luigi, of the Parish of St. Joseph, for having kindly placed at our disposal the hall for the premier concert. Dieses Jahr findet die fünfzehnte Ausgabe des Internationalen Blasorchester-Wettbewerbs “Flicorno d’Oro” statt. Trotz der Wirtschaftskrise, die mehr oder weniger alle europäischen Länder betrifft, wovon auch Italien nicht ausgenommen ist, haben sich 21 musikalische Formationen eingeschrie-ben. Nach der Ausgabe 2012, die im gewissen Sinn auf Grund der großen Anzahl von Wettbewer-bern und der Qualität der Musik ein großer Erfolg war, wird dieses Jahr für die Blasorchester im Allgemeinen schwieriger sein.Trotzdem ist der organisatorische Einsatz von Seiten des Verbandes Flicorno d’Oro auch dieses Jahr wie immer exzellent. Die künstlerische Leitung des Wettbewerbs liegt immer noch in Händen von Maestro Daniele Carnevali, während die internationale Jury auf den Vorsitz von Maestro Franco Cesarini zählen kann, mit der Unterstützung von Franco Benzi, Benoît Chantry, Jacob de Haan, Thomas Ludescher, Károly Neumayer und Armando Saldarini. Ich möchte bei dieser Gelegenheit allen herzlich dafür danken, dass sie eingewilligt haben, an der internationalen Jury teilzunehmen. Auch in dieser Ausgabe finden neben dem Wettbewerb Ausstellungen von Musikinst-rumenten, Partituren, Treffen und Debatten statt, die eine Bereicherung für alle jene darstellen, die ein Wochenende in Riva del Garda unter dem Zeichen der Musik und Kultur verbringen möchten.Es wird also wieder ein Treffen von verschiedenen Musikkulturen stattfinden, die dem Wettbewerb jene Besonderheit und Auszeichnung verleihen, die ihn zu etwas Einzigartigem in Italien macht und die die Stadt Riva del Garda zu einer der europäischen Hauptstädte der Blasorchester-Musik werden lassen. Trachten und farbenprächtige Uniformen als Symbol der Zugehörigkeit zu verschie-denen Musikkulturen, die sich kennen lernen und konfrontieren möchten. Eine weitere erfreuliche Tatsache ist die Anwesenheit so vieler junger Teilnehmer, die bei den letzten Ausgaben die Gele-genheit hatten, sich durch ihre künstlerischen Leistungen auszuzeichnen und der Veranstaltung ein neues und dynamisches Image verleihen.Ein weiterer Höhepunkt des Wettbewerbs ist der Eröffnungsabend, wo wir, abgesehen von der rituellen Begrüßungen, auch Gelegenheit haben werden, im Auditorium der Chiesa S. Giuseppe von Riva di Garda dem Eröffnungskonzert der Veranstaltung mit der Civica Filarmonica di Lugano, dirigiert von Maestro Franco Cesarini, beizuwohnen.Bei der Gelegenheit möchte ich mich natürlich auch für den Einsatz und die Unterstützung der Autonomen Provinz Trient, in Person des Assessors Franco Panizza, der Gemeinde Riva del Garda in Person des Stadtrats Flavia Brunelli, der Region Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol, des Touris-musverbandes Ingarda Trentino, des Verbandes der Musikkapellen von Trient und dessen neuen Präsidenten Renzo Braus, des BIM - Bacini Imbriferi Montani - (Gebirgseinzugsgebiete) Sarca Garda Mincio, der Stifung Caritro, des italienischen Ministeriums für kulturelle Güter und Tätig-keiten bedanken. Ein besonderer Dank geht auch an die Cassa Rurale Alto Garda, an die Firma

Yamaha Music Europe, in Person von Gian Battista Corti, an den Messeverband Riva del Garda Fierecongressi, an die aktive Mitarbeit der Musikkapelle Riva del Garda, an die Pfarrgemeinde S.Giuseppe und an Don Luigi, der uns freundlicherweise den Saal für das Eröffnungskonzert zur Verfügung gestellt hat.Ein herzliches Dankeschön auch an alle freiwilligen Mitarbeitern, die während des Wettbewerbs zum erfolgreichen Ausgang des Events beigetragen haben.Nicht zuletzt möchte ich mich auch bei Laura Civettini bedanken, der Sekretärin und Koordinatorin des Wettbewerbs seit mehr als zehn Jahren, die beschlossen hat, neue Berufserfahrungen zu machen und die während vieler Ausgaben des Wettbewerbs bei allen Freunden des Flicorno d’Oro beliebt und geschätzt war. Gleichzeitig auch möchte ich Valentina Civettini viel Glück bei ihrer neuen Tätigkeit wünschen, da sie dieses Jahr zum ersten Mal den Wettbewerb organisiert.Ich wünsche allen einen angenehmen und geruhsamen Aufenthalt in Riva del Garda und den teil-nehmenden Musikkapellen, dass ihnen der Wettbewerb neuen Ansporn und erneute Begeisterung für die Musik schenken möge.

La musica è una delle componenti più rilevanti e qualitativamente più prestigiose del vastissimo e articolato mondo delle attività culturali trentine. Rilevante per numero di praticanti di ogni età, di ogni classe sociale e provenienti da tutte le valli della nostra provincia. Qualitativamente prestigiosa grazie all’attività di formazione e di aggiornamento del Conservatorio, delle Scuole musicali e dei complessi bandistici in attività.Il settore delle “bande musicali”, poi, è un capitolo a parte: il fascino della banda è quasi una magica attrazione per gli amanti della musica di tutte le età. Ciò dipende anche dal fatto che le bande sono composte esclusivamente da musicisti dilettanti che propongono un repertorio musicale capace di interessare e di coinvolgere il grande pubblico, spesso con risultati che nulla hanno da invidiare a quelli di tanti complessi professionistici.Tutto ciò è reso possibile grazie alla competenza e dalla passione dei “direttori di banda”, che preparano i propri orchestrali con una meticolosa selezione e un’attenta costruzione dei vari pezzi da arrangiare con sensibilità, aggiungendovi sempre quel pizzico di originalità che rende ogni complesso bandistico diverso da tutti gli altri.È proprio avvalendosi di questa solida tradizione, che in Trentino vanta ormai una storia più che secolare, che l’omonima associazione rivana torna sulla ribalta internazionale per la quindicesima edizione del Flicorno d’Oro, un evento che ha già scritto pagine importanti nella storia della musica bandistica trentina, nazionale e mondiale.Riva del Garda, nei due giorni di concorso tornerà a essere ancora una volta la capitale della musica suonata dalle bande: per tutti gli appassionati sarà l’occasione per ascoltare esecuzioni magistrali dei migliori complessi bandistici sulla scena, per applaudire i vincitori nelle singole categorie, ma soprattutto per gustare fino in fondo il piacere dell’ascolto e del coinvolgimento che solo una banda sa proporre.La Provincia autonoma di Trento sostiene da sempre iniziative come queste, che sanno coniugare altissima qualità culturale con un altrettanto alto livello di accoglienza da parte del pubblico. Sono infatti convinto che appuntamenti come il Flicorno d’Oro siano da un lato ambite “vetrine” per gli esecutori e per i complessi più bravi, ma anche opportunità per avvicinare i giovani e i giovanissimi al mondo della musica, invitandoli a scegliere una banda per imparare a suonare magistralmente lo strumento preferito. Esiste anche un ultimo, ma non meno importante, aspetto del tema. Mi riferisco all’importanza che la musica bandistica del Trentino riveste nel creare, nel qualificare e nel promuovere l’acco-

glienza della nostra terra nei confronti di quanti, e sono moltissimi, ci scelgono per trascorrere in mezzo a noi le loro vacanze. Tutti abbiamo vissuto in prima persona l’esperienza gioiosa e ricreativa di ascoltare una banda suonare in piazza: è quella l’occasione in cui il turismo “popo-lare” s’incontra e si sposa con il turismo “culturale” più genuino.La mia gratitudine, pertanto, va agli organizzatori del Flicorno d’Oro, riuniti nell’omonima associazione, agli amici del Corpo Bandistico Riva del Garda e ai responsabili della Federazione dei Corpi Bandistici della Provincia di Trento: è grazie a loro se sulle rive del Lago di Garda, la primavera 2013 verrà salutata dalle note dei flicorni, accompagnate a quelle degli altri ottoni, dei clarinetti e dei sassofoni e ritmate da tamburi, timpani, piatti e grancasse.

Music is one of the most important and prestigious quality components of the vast and varied world of cultural activities that take place in the Trento region. It is important due to the number of people of all ages involved, from all walks of life and all the valleys in our province.Prestige and quality are provided by the training and refresher courses held by the territory’s Conservatory, music schools and active bands. The “musical band” sector is a separate chapter: the fascination of a band is almost magic for music lovers of all ages. This also depends on the fact that members of bands are exclusively amateur musicians who present a musical repertory that can interest and involve the general public, often achieving results on a par with those of many professional groups. This is made possible by the competence and passion of the band conductors, who prepare their players with meticulously selected and carefully constructed scores, arranged with sensitivity and a pinch of originality that makes each band different from all the others.Taking advantage of this solid tradition, hundreds of years old in the Trento region, the Flicornod’Oro returns to the international stage for the fifteenth edition of its homonymous competition, an event that has already made its mark on the history of band music in Trento, Italy and the world. For the two days of the competition, Riva del Garda will once again be the capital of band music: all fans will have the opportunity to hear masterly renditions by the bands on the stage, to applaud the winners of the individual categories, but above all to thoroughly enjoy the pleasure of listening to music that will excite and involve them.The Autonomous Provincial District of Trento has always supported initiatives like these, which combine top cultural quality with an equally high level of hospitality by the public. I am con-vinced that occasions such as the Flicorno d’Oro are on the one hand a desirable “showcase” for the players and more experienced bands, but also opportunities for young people to approach the world of music, encouraging them to join a band to perfect their performance with their chosen instrument. There is also a last, but not less important, aspect. I refer to the importance that band music has in the Trento region for creating, qualifying and promoting the hospitality of our territory for the great number of people who choose to spend their holidays with us. We all have first-hand experience of the joyful pleasure we get when we listen to a band in the town square: that is when “popular” tourism encounters and merges with the most genuine “cultural” tourism.And so I am grateful to the members of the Flicorno d’Oro association which organizes this com-petition, our friends in the Riva del Garda Band and the heads of the Province of Trento Band Federation: it is due to their hard work that in Spring 2013 the shores of Lake Garda will be greeted by the notes of flugelhorns accompanied by the other brasses, clarinets and saxophones and the rhythm of drums, kettledrums, cymbals and bass drums.

Die Musik ist zweifellos eine der bedeutendsten und qualitativ wertvollsten Kunstrichtungen in der großen Welt der kulturellen Tätigkeiten in Trient. Bedeutend auf Grund der großen Zahl der Musikfreunde jeden Alters, jeder sozialen Klasse, die aus allen Gegenden unserer Provinz kommen. Qualitativ wertvoll dank der erstklassigen Ausbildung, die das Konservatorium, die Musikschulen und die Musikkapellen bieten. Die Musikkapellen stellen zweifelsohne ein Kapitel für sich dar: das Blasorchester übt eine magisch Anziehungskraft auf die Musikliebhaber jeden Alters aus. Auch weil Blasorchester ausschließlich aus Amateuren bestehen, die ein Musikreper-toire bieten, das in der Lage ist, das breite Publikum mitzureißen, oft mit Ergebnissen, die denen vieler professioneller Musikkapellen um nichts nachstehen. All das ist möglich dank der Kom-petenz und des Einsatzes der “Blasorchesterdirigenten”, die ihre Orchestermitglieder sorgfältig auswählen und die verschiedenen Musikstücke mit Sensibilität arrangieren und dabei jedes Mal ein wenig Originalität einflechten, die jedes Blasorchester einzigartig werden lässt.Und eben dank jener starken, im ganzen Trentino verbreiteten Tradition, die bereits mehrere Jahrhunderte zurückreicht, tritt der Verband Flicorno d’Oro mit seiner mit Begeisterung erwarte-ten fünfzehnten Ausgabe auf weltweiter Ebene wieder ins Rampenlicht: mit jenem Flicorno d’Oro der bereits bei der Trientiner Blasorchestermusik national und international große Geschichte gemacht hat.Riva del Garda wird auch dieses Jahr in den zwei Tagen des Wettbewerbs wieder zum Zentrum der Blasorchestermusik: es wird für alle Musikliebhaber die Gelegenheit sein, meisterhafte Aufführungen der besten Blasorchester aus der Szene zu hören, den Gewinnern in den verschie-denen Kategorien zu applaudieren, aber vor allem eine Gelegenheit, die Musik voll und ganz zu genießen und sich von den einzelnen lasorchestern mitreißen zu lassen.Die Autonome Provinz Trient freut sich, Initiativen wie diese zu fördern, die höchste kulturelle Qualität mit einem ebenso hohen Niveau von Interesse von Seiten des Publikums verbinden.Ich bin davon überzeugt, dass Veranstaltungen wie Flicorno d’Oro einerseits ersehnte „Schaufens-ter“ für die besten Musiker und Musikkapellen sind, aber auch eine Gelegenheit, die Jungen und Jüngsten der Welt der Musik näher zu bringen, indem sie aufgefordert werden, ein Blasorchester zu wählen, bei dem sie ihr Lieblingsinstrument meisterhaft erlernen können.Es existiert aber auch ein letzter, nicht weniger wichtiger Aspekt zum Thema. Ich beziehe mich auf die Bedeutung, die die Blasorchestermusik im Trentino spielt, um den Tourismus in unserer Gegend zu schaffen, zu qualifizieren und zu fördern und allen jenen, die ihren Urlaub bei uns verbringen möchten, einen angenehmen Aufenthalt zu bieten. Wir haben alle die schöne und erquickende Erfahrung gemacht, ein Blasorchester auf dem Dorfplatz spielen zu hören: ein Anlass, wo sich der „populäre“ Tourismus mit dem echten „kulturellen“ Tourismus vereint.Ich bedanke mich daher bei den Organisatoren des Flicorno d’Oro, den Freunden des gleichna-migen Verbandes, denen der Musikkapelle Riva del Garda und den Leitern des Verbandes der Musikkapellen der Provinz Trient: es ist ihr Verdienst, wenn auch im Frühling 2013 an den Ufern des Gardasees die Noten der Flügelhörner ertönen werden, aber auch die der anderen Blech-blasinstrumente, der Klarinetten und Saxophone, begleitet von Trommeln, Pauken, Tschinellen und großen Trommeln.

Accogliamo anche quest'anno con gioia la colorata, festosa invasione di musica che da sempre s'accompagna al concorso bandistico internazionale Flicorno d'Oro, una manifestazione che alla dimensione del confronto e della competizione, quelli che come tradizione vedono misurarsi prestigioso corpi bandistici provenienti da tutto il mondo, aggiunge la circostanza preziosa del ritrovo, nella nostra città, di tantissime persone che amano, vivono, diffondono e donano la musica. Un'occasione che rende Riva del Garda, da sempre aperta all'accoglienza e profonda-mente legata alla musica, ancora più bella, vivace, cordiale e festosa. Quest'anno però la festa è doppia perché l'edizione 2013 è la quindicesima: un traguardo impor-tante, una sorta di passaggio alla maturità per una manifestazione che promette di rimanere sem-pre giovane, e un ulteriore motivo di soddisfazione per l'associazione Flicorno d'Oro a cui vanno dunque, a nome mio personale e di tutta l'amministrazione comunale, le più sentite felicitazioni e l'espressione della più sincera gratitudine per la meritoria attività svolta. A tutti i partecipanti, infine, l'augurio di una bella esperienza e di una piacevole permanenza nella nostra città.

It is an event that provides a dimension of comparison and competition, where prestigious bands from all over the world traditionally compete with each other, as well as a delightful excuse for lots of people who love, spread and donate music to meet in our city. An occasion that makes Riva del Garda, always welcoming to guests and deeply fond of music, even more beautiful, lively and festive.And this year the feast is doubled because the 2013 edition is the fifteenth: an important goal, a sort of passage into maturity for an event that promises to stay young through time. It is also a further reason for satisfaction for the Flicorno d’Oro association, which the entire local council and I congratulate in expressing our sincere gratitude for its worthy activities. I wish all the participants a wonderful experience and a pleasant stay in our city.

Auch dieses Jahr freuen wir uns, die farbenfrohe, festliche Musikinvasion bei uns begrüßen zu können, die seit jeher der internationale Blasorchesterwettbewerb Flicorno d’Oro mit sich bringt. Eine Veranstaltung, die neben der Konfrontation und dem Wettbewerb unter den bedeutendsten Musikkapellen aus aller Welt, vielen Menschen, die Musik lieben, erleben, verbreiten und schen-ken, die Gelegenheit bietet, sich in unserer Stadt zu treffen. Ein Anlass, der die schon immer offene und Musik liebende Stadt Riva del Garda noch schöner, lebhafter und festlicher werden lässt.Dieses Jahr handelt es sich jedoch um eine doppeltes Fest, da die Ausgabe 2013 die fünfzehnte ist: ein wichtiges Ziel, eine Art Übergang zur Reife für eine Veranstaltung, die immer jung zu bleiben verspricht und ein weiterer Grund der Genugtuung für den Verband Flicorno d’Oro, dem ich in meinem Namen und im Namen der gesamten emeindeverwaltung einen herzlichen Glückwunsch ausspreche und dem wir für seine verdienstwürdige Tätigkeit von ganzem Herzen danken. Il Flicorno d'Oro, giunto ormai alla sua quidicesima edizione, conferma anche quest'anno la sua capacità di organizzare eventi di altissimo livello. The Flicorno d'Oro, now at its fifteenth edition, this year confirms its ability to organize top quality events. Flicorno d'Oro ist bereits zur fünfzehnten Ausgabe gelangt und bestätigt auch dieses Jahr wieder die Fähigkeit, Veranstaltungen von höchsten Niveau zu organisieren. Eine stets im Steigen begrif-fene Qualität, die Fähigkeit, für nationale und internationale Blasorchester attraktiv zu sein und die Fähigkeit, den bildenden und gemeinschaftlichen Aspekt der Musik zum Ausdruck zu bringen, sind Beweis für die Vitalität des Blasorchestersektors auch in Zeiten wirtschaftlicher Krise.Der Wettbewerb unterstreicht eindeutig das internationale Prestige dieser Veranstaltung und prämiert zu Recht das Team der künstlerischen und organisatorischen Leitung für deren Tätig-keit. Daniele Carnevali, diplomatosi al Conservatorio di Parma in tromba e strumentazione per banda e in musica corale e direzione di coro al Conservatorio di Bologna, ha poi seguito corsi di direzione d'orchestra con il Maestro Piero Guarino. Inizialmente svolse attività di trombettista in varie orchestre lirico-sinfoniche quali la "Arturo Toscanini" dell'Emilia Romagna ed altre, alternandole all'insegnamento di tromba e trombone nei Conservatori di Parma e Modena.Contemporaneamente si dedicò all'arrangiamento ed alla trascrizione di complessi per ottoni ed a composizioni originali per bande attraverso la quale si distinse vincendo diversi premi. Le sue composizioni si caratterizzano per l’utilizzo di vari generi musicali, per le differenti tipologie d'organico bandistico e per i diversi gradi di difficoltà, grazie alle quali vengono spesso utilizzate come brani d'obbligo nei concorsi in Italia ed in Francia.Carnevali collaborò con molte case editrici come Eridanea (MN), Molenaar (NL) e dal 1993 ad oggi in modo continuativo ed esclusivo con Scomegna (TO).Le sue circa 30 composizioni sono state incise in più di 40 cd, 10 dei quali registrati dall'autore in Italia (ed. Scomegna) ed in Germania (ed. Carpe Diem). Diresse inoltre le bande di Sabbioneta (MN), G. Verdi città di Parma, i "101" di Fabbrico (RE), il Corpo bandistico di Albiano (TN), la Trentino Wind Band (TN - primo premio Valencia 1998) e come ospite anche alcune formazioni prestigiose come: Banda Esercito Italiana, Filarmonica G. He graduated in trumpet and band instrumentation at the Conservatory of Parma and in cho-ral music and conduction at the Conservatory of Bologna. He was a trumpet player in various orchestras such as Arturo Toscanini from Emilia Romagna and in the same time teacher at the Parma and Modena Conservatories. At the same time, he works on trascription for brass ensemble and on original composition for band – for which he has won several prizes at competitions. He has worked for publishers as Eridanea (Mantova), Molenaar (Holland) and since 1993 he is a Scomegna composer (Turin). All of his 30 compositions have been recorded on more of 40 cd, 10 by himself in Italy (ed. Scomegna) and in Germany (ed.Carpe Diem). He has conducted several bands such as Sab-bioneta (MN), G. Verdi city of Parma,"101" of Fabbrico (RE), Corpo bandistico di Albiano (TN), Trentino Wind Band (TN - first prize Valencia 1998) and as guest conductor some prestigious bands like Banda Esercito Italiano, Filarmonica G. Daniele Carnevali hat am Konservatorium von Parma das Diplom Trompete und Instrumen-tierung für Musikkapellen erworben, sowie für Chormusik und Chorleitung am Konservatorium von Bologna. Er hat verschiedene Kurse Orchesterleitung bei Maestro Piero Guarino besucht. Zunächst spielte er die Trompete in verschiedenen Orchestern, worunter im Arturo Toscanini Orchester der Emilia Romagna, wechselte diese Tätigkeit aber ab mit dem Unterricht für Trom-pete und Posaune an den Musikhochschulen Parma und Modena. Gegenwärtig widmet er sich dem Arrangement und der Transkription für verschiedene Blasmusikformationen und der Origi-nalmusik für Musikkapelle, womit er sich in den Wettbewerben auszeichnet. Er komponiert für unterschiedliche Musikgenren und für die verschiedensten Gruppenzusammensetzungen; seine Kompositionen varieeren auch bezüglich Schwierigkeitsgrad und werden oft als Pflichtstück bei Wettbewerben in Italien und Frankreich eingesetzt. Er hat mit den Musikverlegern Eridanea (Mantova) und Molenaar (NL) zusammengearbeitet und ab 1993 veröffentlicht er ausschließlich bei Scomegna (Torino). Die 30 Kompositionen wurden auf mehr als 40 CD's herausgebracht, 10 davon nahm er in Italien (Musikverlag Scomegna) und in Deutschland (Musikverlag Carpe Diem) auf. Er hat folgende Blaskapellen geleitet: Musikkapelle Sabbioneta (Mantova), G. Franco Cesarini (Bellinzona - CH, 1961) iniziò in giovane età lo studio del flauto e del pianoforte al conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi di Milano.Proseguì la sua formazione nella classe del flautista Peter-Lukas Graf all'Accademia Musicale di Basilea, dove ottenne il diploma d'insegnamento e quello di concertista. In seguito ricevette anche il diploma di direzione con Felix Hauswirth e quello di composizione con Robert Suter e Jacques Wildberger.Quale solista e membro di gruppi cameristici ricevette importanti riconoscimenti a numerosi concorsi, tra i quali il primo premio con menzione al concorso nazionale svizzero d'esecuzione musicale nel 1981. Nel 1984 gli è stata conferita la prestigiosa borsa di studio della fondazione Ernst Göhner-Migros.Dal 1989 al 2006 è stato professore di direzione e strumentazione per orchestra di fiati presso la "Musikhochschule" di Zurigo. Dal 2001 insegna composizione e direzione d'orchestra di fiati al Conservatorio della Svizzera italiana di Lugano. Nel 2001 è stato invitato in qualità di "Composer-in-residence" presso la "Southeast Missouri State University" a Cape Girardeau, Missouri (USA).Dal 1998 è direttore della Civica Filarmonica di Lugano e della Scuola musicale di Lugano.Franco Cesarini è un compositore particolarmente versatile. Oltre alle composizioni per orchestra di fiati il suo repertorio comprende brani di musica da camera, vocale, per pianoforte, svariati strumenti solisti, quartetto d'archi e orchestra sinfonica. Durante la sua carriera artistica ottenne numerosi riconoscimenti,tra i quali il premio di compo-sizione della fondazione svizzera per la cultura Pro Helvetia nel 1995, il premio della fondazione Stephan Jaeggi nel 2003 ed il "Prix Suisse" nel 2004.Oggi è inoltre molto richiesto come membro di giurie a concorsi nazionali ed internazionali, nonché in veste di direttore ospite.

Since 1989 Cesarini has been professor for concert band conducting and orchestration at the "Musikhochschule" in Zurich and since 2001 he has taught composition and band conducting at the Conservatory of the italian speaking part of Switzerland in Lugano.In 2001 Cesarini was invited to be composer-in-residence at Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, Missouri (Unites States). Since 1998 he has conducted the "Civica Filar-monica di Lugano", and is the director of the Music School in that same city.Cesarini is a very versatile composer. In addition to his compositions for concert bands, his rep-ertoire includes pieces for chamber ensembles, various solo instruments, vocal, string orchestra and symphony orchestra. He is also very much in demand as an adjudicator in both national and international competitions and as a guest conductor. Many of this works have already been recorded on CD.

Franco Cesarini wurde 1961 geboren. Seine Musikstudien hat er am Konservatorium Mailandbegonnen (Klavier und Querflöte) und an der Musikakademie der Stadt Basel fortgesetzt. Er studierte bei Peter-Lukas Graf (Flöte), bei Felix Hauswirth (Blasorchersterdirektion) und bei Robert Suter und JacquesWildberger (Theorie und Komposition). Abschluss mit den Diplomen als Lehrer für Flöte und als Konzertflötist, als Blasorchesterdirigent und als Lehrer für Theorie und Komposition.1989 wurde er an der Musikhochschule nach Zürich berufen, wo er bis 2006 Blasorchesterdirek-tion unterrichtet hat. Seit 2001 lehrt er dieses Fach ebenfalls an der Musikhochschule Lugano. Seit 2004 ist er Professor für Musiktheorie und Komposition an der Musikhochschule in Lugano.In Jahr 2001 ist er als "Composer-in-Residence" an der "Southeast Missouri State University" in Cape Girardeau, Missouri (USA) berufen worden.Seit 1998 ist er künstlerischer Leiter des Blasorchesters "Civica Filarmonica di Lugano" und Leiter der Musikschule Lugano.Cesarini ist ein vielseitiger Komponist. Jacob de Haan (Heerenveen - NL, 1959) è un compositore olandese, autore di brani per banda ed orchestre a fiati. Si diplomò al conservatorio di Leeuwarden dove conseguì il diploma in organo ed d'insegnamento musicale. Sarà poi nominato professore dello stesso. Jacob de Haan vive a Rotterdam dove si dedica interamente alla composizione. Nato in un ambiente familiare in cui la musica svolge un ruolo fondamentale, riceve lezioni di piano e di tromba già dalla sua più giovane età, sviluppando una sensibilità e una creatività propria delle sue composizioni. Le sue prime opere, risalgono agli anni 80. Le composizioni prettamente bandistiche o per orchestre di strumenti a fiato, gli permettono di comporre brani di differente difficoltà mantenendo inalterata la sua firma armonica. Il suo più grande successo internazionale fu di certo Oregon pubblicato nel 1988 che diventò subito un brano cult presso le bande di tutto il mondo. Le sue composi-zioni nascono per lo più grazie alle richieste di scuole musicali e conservatori di tutto il mondo.

Jacob de Haan (Heerenveen - NL, 1959) the Netherlands, is one of the most popular and most played wind music composers of our time. In a long-time cooperation with his publisher, De Haske Publications, he has issued numerous compositions and arrangements for various line-ups. His compositions, mostly written on commission, are known worldwide – especially the works that are based on film-music-like combinations of styles. Oregon, his most performed composi-tion, brought about his international breakthrough. His oeuvre for wind band further consists of music for choir and band, concert works with different grades of difficulty, short concertante works, didactic material for beginners, entertainment music, and marches. He also writes various arrangements of existing classical works and chorals. De Haan completed his studies, majoring in school music and organ, at the Music Academy Leeuwarden. Subsequently, he lectured in arranging at the same conservatory.Jacob de Haan regularly acts as a guest conductor with performances of his own works – not only in Europe, but also Australia, Singapore, South Korea and the USA – and as a jury member at international competitions.

Für Musikkapellen und Blasorchester kom-poniert De Haan Musik mit unterschiedlichen Schwierigkeitsgraden, behält dabei aber immer seine harmonische Charakteristik. Seinen größten internationalen Erfolg erlangt er im Jahre 1988 mit seinem Werk “Oregon”, das sofort zu einem Kult-Musikstück wird. Seine Kompositionen entstehen hauptsächlich im Auftrag von Musikschulen und Konservatorien aus aller Herren Ländern.Jacob de Haan tritt regelmäßig als Gastdirigent auf bei Aufführungen seiner Werke - nicht nur in Europa, sondern auch in Australien, Singapur, Süd Korea und den USA – und ist Jurymitglied in internationalen Wettbewerben.

Benzi Franco (Gonzaga - I, 1936) inizia gli studi musicali sotto la valida guida del M° Domenico Fantini. Frequenta il Conservatorio di Parma, diplomandosi in Flauto e il Conservatorio di Verona, approfondendo lo studio della composizione iniziato con il M° Fantini. Presso il Teatro Comunale di Bologna partecipa a corsi di perfezionamento per direttori d’orche-stra coi maestri Sergiu Celibidache e Karl Heinz Stockhausen. Su invito frequenta vari seminari di pedagogia ed estetica musicale presso l’università Ujep di Brno (Cecoslovacchia).Ha pubblicato e collabora con Case Editrici in Italia e in Olanda.Ha vinto Concorsi Internazionali di Composizione, ed ha fatto parte di giurie in Concorsi Ban-distici e di Composizioni Originali per Banda, in Italia, Austria, Belgio. Franco Benzi (Gonzaga - I, 1936) started studying music under the valid guidance ofMaestro Domenico Fantini. He attended Parma Conservatory, where he gained a diploma in Flute, and Verona Conservatory, where he advanced the study of composition he began with Maestro Fantini. At the Teatro Comunale in Bologna he attended master classes for orchestra conductors held by Sergiu Celibidache and Karl Heinz Stockhausen.He was invited to attend several seminars regarding musical pedagogy and aesthetics at the Ujep University in Brno (Czechoslovakia).He has published and worked with publishers in Italy and Holland. He has won international composition contests and sat on judging panels for competitionsinvolving bands and original compositions for bands in Italy, Austria and Belgium.A former conservatory teacher, he currently dedicates most of his time to writing music in theChamber, Didactic and Symphonic Band genres.

Er beginnt mit seinem Musikstudium unter der hervorragenden Leitung von M°Domenico Fantini.Er besucht das Konservatorium von Parma und erwirbt das Diplom im Fach Flöte und das Kon-servatorium von Verona, wo er das bereits mit M° Fantini begonnene Studium der Komposition vertieft. Als ehemaliger Dozent am Konservatorium widmet er sich heute vor-wiegend der Komposition in folgenden Bereichen: Kammermusik, Didaktik und Symphonic Band.

Benoît Chantry (Tournai - B, 1975) durante la sua infanzia studiò numerosi strumenti musicali mostrando uno spiccato interesse in diversi stili. Dopo essersi perfezionato grazie ad insegnanti di livello come Octors Georges, André Waignein e Arnould Massart al Conservatorio Reale di Bruxelles (percussioni, armonia,contrappunto, fuga, composizione, direzione d'orchestra), entra nel mondo della musica con il desiderio di lavorare alla fusione di diversi generi. Prendendo spunto da molti artisti spesso provenienti da universi musicali diversi, crea musical, come ad esempio per il Festival de Wallonie e Lille nel 2004 Capitale europea della cultura, musica per teatro e per eventi speciali come Les Rencontres Inattendues a Tournai. Ma fu all'interno di bande musicali che si mostrò particolarmente attivo, sia come compositore che come direttore d'orchestra. In particolar modo diresse l'orchestra del Reale Conservatorio di Bruxelles dove insegnò armonia, ritmo e teoria musicale (notazione), la banda di fiati La Concorde in Péronnes-les-Antoing (B), dove succedette André Waignein e l’orchestra di fiati del Conservatorio di Tournai (B). Prese inoltre la direzione della Camera Reale d‘Orchestra della Vallonia, della Cappella Musicale di Tournai, del complesso musicale Divertimento (Eurometro-pole) e dell’orchestra di fiati Hageland per concerti e registrazioni in studio.Compose opere di Aperghis, Capelletti, Reich (creazione belga), Dusapin, Dupraz, Houben, Lysight, Waignein e ottenne diverse commissioni da importanti orchestre di fiati come ad esempio dal complesso Nouvelles Musique e per il concorso Dexia Classics. Chantry ricevette numerosi premi di composizione. Le sue opere vengono principalmente registrate e pubblicate da Tierolff Muziekcentrale (Paesi Bassi) e da HaFaBra Music (Belgio). Nel 2011 rappresentò il Belgio nel contest del Progetto Mondiale d’Orchestra di Fiati, organizzato dalla fondazione MUI (Paesi Bassi), e tutt‘oggi è uno dei compositori del Progetto europeo ECO (European Contemporary Orchestra) il frutto della fusione tra orchestra sinfonica, orchestra jazz e musica elettronica.

Thomas Ludescher (Feldkirch - A, 1969) ha studiato tromba, pedagogia musicale, direzione d’orchestra di strumenti a fiato e composizione al conservatorio di Feldkirch (Austria), all’uni-versità di musica di Vienna, e al conservatorio di Augusta (Germania). Nel 1996 ha conseguito la laurea con la promozione a magister artium. Partecipò a vari master class: con Bernard Hai-tink, Carlos Trikolidis e Andreas Spörri nella disciplina di direzione d’orchestra e con Philippe Manoury, Pierre Boulez, Ed de Boer, Johan de Meij e Alfred Reed nelle discipline composizione e strumentazione. Con Andreas Spörri, direttore d’orchestra noto a livello internazionale, seguì regolarmente diversi corsi di formazione e nell’Aprile del 2005 vinse il primo premio al concorso internazionale di direzione d’orchestra PRIX CREDIT SUISSE. Thomas Ludescher insegnò direzione d’orchestra di strumenti a fiato ai conservatori di Vorarl-berg e Tirolo, e fu inoltre docente di strumentazione al Leopold Mozart Zentrum dell’università di Augsburgo. He takes regular lessons with Andreas Spörri, an international conductor.In 2005, he won the first prize at the international conducting competition PRIX CREDIT SUISSE. Ludescher teaches “conducting wind orchestras” at Vorarlberg and Tirol Academy of Music and at the Leopold Mozart-Centre of the University of Augsburg.As a conductor, Ludescher has worked with several project orchestras. Further to that, he has acted as guest conductor, lecturer and juror on an international basis. He performed several concerts around the globe including China, Spain, Norway, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Swit-zerland and many more. He is conductor of many orchestras, the Symphonic Wind Orchestra Vorarlberg (SBV), the fanfare orchestra "West Austrian Wings", Bläserphilharmonie “Kons Tirol” and the National youth windorchestra of Austria. Ludescher achieved greatest success with this orchestra at the World Music Contest in Kerkrade (Netherlands) in 2005 and 2009. The orchestra participated in the concert division and achieved a first place with distinction both times. Even with Igor Stravinsky's "Le Sacre du Printemps" (The Rite of Spring), the SBV was ranked four in the overall ranking of the World Music Contest in 2009.

Preis. Den größten Erfolg erzielte Thomas Ludescher mit dem Sinfonischen Blasorchester Vorarlberg beim WMC 2005 und 2009 in Kerkrade/Holland. Károly Neumayer (Pécs - H, 1954) si è diplomato in tromba presso il Liszt Ferenc Music College a Budapest. Attualmente è direttore della sezione fiati presso l’Istituto per insegnanti di musica Liszt Ferenc College a Pécs, dove sovrintende il tirocinio per direttori di strumenti a fiato. È stato direttore della Pecsi Vasutas Concert Orchestra a fiati dal 1983. A Riva del Garda ha otte-nuto il riconoscimento di miglior direttore d’orchestra nel 1993. Membro della WASBE è anche presidente dell’ Associazione dei musicisti strumenti a fiato ungheresi.

Károly Neumayer (Pécs - H, 1954) is a trumpeter and a conductor of wind orchestra.He accomplished his musical studies as a trumpeter in Budapest at the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music and at the College of Liszt Ferenc Music Academy where he was a conductor of wind orchestra receiving an award. He is a dominant personality in Faculty of Musical Arts at the University of Pécs and is head of department. In the brass department, he leads the department of wind band conductors.His conducting activities are broad: he is the conductor of both the symphony orchestra and wind band of the University of Pécs and the Concert Wind Band of the Hungarian Railways.He is also a winner of numerous competitions both at home and on the international circuit. He is an acknowledged conductor, professor and judge of the national wind band life. He was once a guest conductor in Switzerland.

Karoly Neumayer (Pécs - H, 1954) erhielt das Diplom für Trompete am Liszt Ferenc Music Col-lege in Budapest. Armando Saldarini (Como - I, 1966) consegue il diploma in tromba e in didattica della musica presso il Conservatorio “G. Verdi” di Como e successivamente si diploma in Direzione d’Orche-stra al Conservatorio di Rotterdam, Olanda. Titolare di due borse di studio presso la St. Cloud State University, St. Cloud MN (U.S.A.), ottiene il Master of Music in Instrumental Conducting studiando con il Dr. Richard Hansen. Vincitore dell’audizione e delle relative due borse di studio, Saldarini è attualmente impegnato quale Graduate Teaching Assistente e Guest Conductor presso la University of Southern Mississippi. Saldarini ha seguito numerosi corsi, seminari e workshops sulla direzione d’orchestra d’archi e di fiati in Italia, Olanda, Francia, Svizzera, Ungheria, U.S.A. e Canada, perfezionandosi con docenti di chiara fama internazionale tra i quali, Frederick Fennell, Jan Cober, Làszlò Marosi, Richard Hansen and Thomas Fraschillo. FRANCO CESARINI, BULGARIAN DANCESIl brano Bulgarian Dances venne commissionato a Franco Cesarini dall’Associazione svizzera Wind Music come pezzo di prova per la prima categoria del 32° Concorso federale di Wind Music a Lucerna nel 2006. La composizione è una rapsodia libera, divisa in quattro distinti movimenti di alcune canzoni popolari bulgare. Queste canzoni hanno una tradizione molto antica che deriva sia dal mondo di Bisanzio che dalla remota e misteriosa civiltà della Tracia. In principio erano canzoni monodiche, poi diafoniche con dissonanze caratteristiche di seconda maggiore e minore che le rendono uniche. Ciò che rende queste melodie così affascinanti è infatti l’irregolare e complesso ritmo che le caratterizza. Cesarini, pur essendo sempre rimasto fedele allo spirito originale delle canzoni, non esitò mai ad ampliare le proprie conoscenze musicali, arricchendole in continuazione e rendendole più adatte alle esigenze delle orchestre di fiati contemporanee.

Bulgarian Dances was commissioned to Franco Cesarini by the Swiss Wind Band Association as a test piece for the first section at the 32nd Federal Wind Music Contest in Luzern in 2006. The composition is a free rhapsody, divided into four distinct move-ments of several famous Bulgarian folk songs. These songs have a very old tradition and stem from both the antique world of Byzantium and even earlier in the ancient and mysterious civilization of the Thrace region. In the beginning they were monodic songs, then diaphonic, with characteristic dissonances of major and minor second which make them unique. What makes these songs so fascinating are also the seductive and complex irregular rhythms. The composer, while remaining faithful to the original spirit of the songs, has not hesitated to broaden the musical ideas, enriching them and making them more suitable to the rich palette of colors of contemporary wind bands.

MARIO MASCAGNI (elaborazione IVAN MARINI),SINFONIA PER BANDAAllievo e cugino di Pietro Mascagni, Mario (1881-1948) è stato direttore d'orchestra e compositore, ma soprattutto brillante didatta ed organizzatore infaticabile: fu direttore dell'Istituto Filarmonico Udinese e fondatore del Civico Liceo Musicale “Rossini” di Bolzano, l'attuale Conservatorio “Monteverdi”. Nel 1945 fu anche internato nel Lager di Bolzano, ma non perse la sua energia: appena scarcerato fece rivivere il “suo” Con-servatorio, progettò la Sala dei concerti, fondò la “Banda del lavoratore” (che oggi porta il suo nome) e promosse corsi internazionali di formazione musicale, da cui nacque il concorso pianistico “Busoni”.Il manoscritto della sua “Sinfonia per banda”, datato 1940, è conservato presso il Corpo Musicale “Mario Mascagni” di Bolzano. L'opera presenta una bella varietà di caratteri ma è segnata dall'atmosfera cupa dell'epoca, dalla guerra e dalla tragedia delle Opzioni in Alto Adige.Il linguaggio armonico moderno, di tipo modale, contrasta con la forma tradizionale della sinfonia d'opera italiana. Dopo l'introduzione scura e dolente, l'Allegro si sviluppa in forma sonata, con due temi ben delineati: il primo più lirico, il secondo ritmico e vir-tuosistico. La breve coda riprende il tema iniziale per chiudere infine con nuovo slancio.La partitura originale, per media banda vesselliana, è caratterizzata dalla fusione timbrica creata dai sistematici raddoppi in tutti i registri: nell'elaborazione moderna per symphonic band si sono creati nuovi colori alleggerendo la scrittura di molti passi e dando il giusto spazio ad alcuni solisti.Un'opera finora inedita e sconosciuta, che grazie alla recente riscoperta e allo spirito d'iniziativa dell'editore esce dall'oblio e va ad arricchire il repertorio storico italiano di composizioni originali per banda.

Pupil and cousin of Pietro Mascagni, Mario (1881-1948) was an orchestra conductor and composer, but above all a brilliant teacher and untiring organizer: he was direc-tor of the Udine Philharmonic Institute and founder of the “Rossini” Music Civic High School, Bolzano, now the “Monteverdi” Conservatory. In 1945 he was incarcerated in the Bolzano Lager, but did not lose his energy: as soon as he was released he revived “his” Conservatory, he designed the Concert Hall, founded the “Workers’ Band” (now named after him) and promoted international musical training courses, which also gave birth to the “Busoni” piano contest. The manuscript score of his “Band Symphony”, dated 1940, is in the possession of the “Mario Mascagni” Band in Bolzano. The work presents a wonderful variety of characters, but is marked by the gloomy atmosphere of the time, the war and the tragedy of the Options in South Tyrol. The modal type modern harmonic language contrasts with the traditional form of Italian symphony

music. After a dark, suffering introduction, the Allegro develops in the form of a sonata, with two lovely, well delineated themes: the first more lyrical, the second rhythmical and masterful. The brief coda takes up the initial theme again, to finally close with new vigour. The original score, for medium-sized Vessella band, features fusion tones created by systematic doubling on all registers: in modern music for symphonic bands new colours have been created which lighten the writing of many passages and give the right amount of space to soloists. Until now this work was unpublished and unknown. Thanks to the initiative of the publisher who recently rediscovered it, it has come out of oblivion to enhance Italy’s historic repertory of original compositions for bands.

ROBERTO DI MARINO, BENACUSBrano Commissionato dal Corpo Musicale "R. Zandonai" di Rovereto per il 170esimo Anniversario di Fondazione. Dedicato al lago di Garda, il brano ne esalta gli aspetti peculiari, concretizzando in musica il paesaggio lacustre nella sua complessità. Il brano si apre con una introduzione che nasce nelle profondità dell'orchestra, con suoni in pia-nissimo degli ottoni nel registro grave accompagnati da un sommesso rullo di timpani. Quindi procede, con un continuo crescendo, verso sonorità sempre più luminose, con clarinetti, flauti e sassofoni che avvolgono l'incedere solenne degli ottoni con arpeggi pentatonici. Raggiunto l'apice del crescendo viene presentata, con grande energia, la scasione ritmica che percorrerà costantemente la prima delle due parti che seguono. È un ritmo in tempo misto (3+3+2+2) che accompagna un tema dal carattere vagamente esotico articolato in due sezioni che si rispondono costantemente. Il tema viene esposto più volte senza variarne il profilo melodico ma solo quello timbrico e dinamico con un procedimento di accumulazione di forza che raggiunge alla fine della prima parte il punto culminante. Dopo un breve episodio di collegamento ha inizio la seconda parte, più lirica e solenne. Anche questa parte procede con un unico grande crescendo verso il "grandioso" conclusivo, nelle ultime battute del quale tornano nuovamente gli echi del tema della prima parte.

Piece commissioned by the "R. Zandonai" Band of Rovereto for the 170th Anniversary of its foundation. Dedicated to Lake Garda, the work exalts the lake’s distinguishing aspects, transforming into music the complexity of the lacustrine landscape. The piece opens with an introduction which arises from the depth of the orchestra, with pianis-simo sounds from the brasses in the grave register, accompanied by a subdued roll of drums. It then proceeds with a continuous crescendo to increasingly luminous sonority from clarinets, flutes and saxophones that surround the solemn pace of the brasses with

pentatonic arpeggios. When it reaches the apex of the crescendo the rhythmic scansion constantly present in the first of the two later parts is presented with great vigour. It is a mixed time rhythm (3+3+2+2) accompanied by a vaguely exotic character separated into two sections that reply to each other constantly. The theme is exposed a number of times, varying its timbric but not its melodic dynamics with gathering strength that reaches its climax at the end of the first part. After a brief connecting episode the second more lyrical solemn part begins. This part also proceeds with a single great crescendo to the "grand" conclusion, the last bars of which echo the theme from the first part.

DANIELE CARNEVALI, ITALIAN STYLELa composizione, in forma di Suite nei classici movimenti Allegro-Adagio-Allegro, riper-corre la melodia italiana riprendendo i tratti popolari con risvolti a volte gioiosi e a volte melanconici. Il primo movimento (Dolce Vita) vuole evocare nei suoni i canti “stornelli” che hanno fatto da colonna sonora a quel cinema italiano conosciuto e apprezzato nel mondo. Il secondo movimento (Canzone) ricrea invece un momento più vicino all’al-tra riconosciuta tradizione italiana: l’opera lirica, con un duetto tra soprano e tenore (tromba ed euphonium). Il terzo movimento (Tarantella) ricrea, con questa trascinante danza, tutta la gioia di vivere e la simpatia che identificano il temperamento italiano nel mondo. Dal punto di vista musicale, mentre il secondo movimento è a se stante e non ha legami di nessun tipo con gli altri movimenti, il primo e il terzo sono fortemente legati, sia melodicamente che armonicamente, in quanto i due temi del primo movimento sono ripresi, in forma variata, nel terzo movimento dove diventano i temi B e C che si alternano al tema A che identifica la Tarantella.

The composition, a suite with the standard Allegro-Adagio-Allegro movement order, traces the Italian melody emphasizing its popular traits with allusions to its joyful and melancholic aspects. The first movement (Dolce Vita) aims to evoke with its sounds the “stornello”, a type of song often featured in the soundtracks of many Italian movies that are known and appreciated worldwide. The second movement (Canzone), in contrast, recreates a moment reminiscent of the other renowned Italian tradition, lyric opera, with a duet for soprano and tenor (trumpet and euphonium). The exciting dance of the third movement (Tarantella) suggests the love for life and the fondness that characterize the Italian spirit around the world. From the musical point of view, while the second move-ment is independent and does not link with the other movements of the piece, the first and the third display a strong harmonic and melodic connection: the two themes of the first movement return varied as the B and C themes of the third, where they alternate with the A theme, the Tarantella.

Caso” 2007 di Vietri sul Mare (SA), Little Suite For Young Band è una piccola suite per banda composta da tre movimenti: Preludio, Scherzo e Finale nei tempi di “Adagio scorrevole”, “Vivace” e “Andante”.I primi due movimenti hanno come caratteristica comune una scrittura quasi minima-lista, sia nel ritmo che negli aspetti melodici. Il Preludio infatti si presenta come una sorta di introduzione statica a quello che sarà poi un incalzante ritmo sincopato del successivo Scherzo.Nel Finale, invece, il minimalismo lascia spazio a una melodia cantabile e molto legata, introdotta e poi accompagnata da un ritmo ostinato di tamburo, quasi a mo’ di Bolero.

Little Suite for Young Band won the 3rd prize (the 1st was not awarded) at the VII National Competition of Original Composition for Band “P. Caso” in 2007 at Vietri sul Mare (SA) in Italy. This piece is a little suite for band composed of three movements: Prelude, Joke and Ending, respectively in “Adagio scorrevole”, “Vivace” and “Andante.”The first two movements have an almost minimalist writing in common, both in the rhythm and in the melodic aspects. In fact, the Prelude appears like a sort of static introduction to what later will be an insistent syncopated rhythm of the following Joke.On the other hand, in the Ending the minimalism leaves space to a cantabile melody, introduced and then accompanied by a persistent rhythm of drum, nearly similar to a Bolero.

La storia della Civica Filarmonica di Lugano, dall'anno della sua fondazione (1830) è tutta un susseguirsi di momenti significativi, con riconoscimenti ottenuti a vari livelli: dal pubblico dei tradizionali incontri su su fino alle giurie internazionali. Durante i decenni è cambiato il gusto della gente, in fatto di musica bandistica. Accanto alle interpretazioni delle classiche trascrizioni del repertorio sinfonico, oggi sono molto apprezzate le vibranti pagine della letteratura originale proveniente in buona parte dagli Stati Uniti d'America. La capacità della Civica Filarmonica di Lugano di aprirsi costantemente verso nuovi orizzonti è la formula del suo successo che perdura nel tempo. Alla banda spetta un prezioso compito, sia nel costante richiamo alla musica offerto a tutti, sia nella formazione musicale dei giovani che si svolge in particolare nella Scuola Musicale di Lugano, gestita dalla Civica Filarmonica stessa. Sono impegni culturali che la Civica svolge con l'ammirata capacità di addentrarsi in un repertorio di circa 1200 pezzi.

Die Geschichte der Civica Filarmonica von Lugano ist seit dem Jahr ihrer Gründung (1830) eine Folge von bedeutenden Momenten mit Anerkennungen auf diversen Ebenen: vom Publikum der traditionellen Veranstaltungen bis zu den internationalen Jurien. Im Laufe der Jahrzehnte hat sich der Geschmack der Menschen in Bezug auf Musikkapellen geändert. Neben den Interpreta-tionen der klassischen Transkriptionen des symphonischen Repertoires werden heute die schwin-genden Klänge der Originalmusik, wie sie hauptsächlich aus den USA kommt, sehr geschätzt. Die Fähigkeit der Civica Filarmonica von Lugano, konstant neue Horizonte zu öffnen, ist die Formel für ihren langjährigen Erfolg. Das Blasorchester hat eine große Aufgabe, sowohl hinsichtlich der Musik für alle, als auch der Ausbildung von jugendlichen, die besonders an der Musikschule von Lugano stattfindet und von der Civica Filarmonica selbst geleitet wird.Es handelt sich um ein kulturelles Engagement, das von der Civica mit ewunderungswürdiger Fähigkeit gemeistert wird und ein Repertoire von ca. 1200 Musikstücken umfasst.

Ever since its foundation (in 1830) the history of the Lugano Civic Philharmonic has been one of significant moments, acknowledged at all levels: by its traditional audiences up to interna-tional juries. Over the years people’s tastes regarding band music have changed. Together with interpretations of the classical transcriptions of the symphonic repertory, nowadays audiences greatly appreciate the vibrant pages of the original literature, mainly from the United States. The ability of the Lugano Civic Philharmonic to constantly open up to new horizons has been its success formula over time. The band has an important task in offering music to all and providing musical training for young people in the Lugano Music School run by the Civic Philharmonic. These are cultural commitments performed by a band to be admired for its ability to offer a repertory of around 1200 pieces.

Nato nel 1982, ha compiuto i suoi primi studi musicali presso il Liceo Musicale di Trento, dove si è diplomato nel 2001. L'anno dopo, sotto la guida del Maestro Pepito Ros, si è diplomato in sassofono. Si è perfezionato suc-cessivamente in jazz con i maestri Mauro Negri e Achille Succi ai seminari di Siena Jazz, Tino Tracanna e Paolo Fresu ai seminari di Nuoro Jazz e con Robert Bonisolo. Nel 2007 ha conseguito il diploma in Composizione e Strumentazione per Banda con il Maestro Daniele Carnevali presso il conservatorio di Trento e nel 2012 ha conseguito la laurea specialistica in Strumentazione per Banda, percorso Composizione, direzione e strumen-tazione per banda presso lo stesso conservatorio con il massimo dei voti e la lode. Ha studiato composizione e

direzione di banda con i maestri Daniele Carnevali (I), Hardy Mertens (NL), Marco Somadossi (I), Louis Buskens (NL), Jan Cober (NL), e Steven Melillo (USA). In occasione di uno stage con il maestro Fulvio Creux (I) a Roma, ha diretto la Banda dell'Esercito Italiano.Con i brani “Penta” e “Popular Suite” ha vinto il primo e secondo premio al concorso di com-posizione “Centenario di Fondazione” di San Martino Canavese (TO). Queste composizioni e gli altri lavori per banda sono pubblicati dalla casa editrice Scomegna di Torino. In qualità di strumentista ha collaborato con la Grande Banda Rappresentativa della Federazione delle Bande del Trentino, con la Trentino Wind Band e con l'Orchestra di Fiati del Liceo Rosmini, con la quale nel 2005 ha partecipato al World Music Contest a Kerkrade (NL) vincendo la terza categoria.Attualmente dirige la Banda Comunale di Tuenno e il Corpo Bandistico “Altopiano di Andalo”. Nel 2007 è stato maestro della Banda Rappresentativa Giovanile della Federazione delle Bande del Trentino e dal 2009 è maestro della Banda Giovanile “Valli del Noce” con la quale ha con-seguito il terzo premio al XIII Concorso Nazionale Bandistico “La bacchetta d'oro” di Fiuggi nella categoria Giovanile B.

Evoluzione e analisi del fenomeno negli ultimi vent'anni.Presentazione del lavoro di tesi di Giovanni Bruni per il biennio di Strumentazione per Banda svolto presso il Conservatorio di Musica di Trento.A conclusione del mio percorso universitario presso il conservatorio di musica di Trento ho scelto di fare un lavoro dedicato alla Banda Giovanile poiché credo che per far crescere il livello musi-cale delle bande in Italia sia necessario puntare sulla formazione dei giovani bandisti. Per fare questo è utile avere una panoramica di quello che succede a livello nazionale in questo campo.Attraverso diverse interviste a varie persone che in questi ultimi vent'anni hanno lavorato con il futuro delle bande, ho cercato di dare una visione italiana del mondo che gravita attorno alla Banda Giovanile. Ho deciso quindi di dividere il mio lavoro in quattro capitoli: storia, concorsi e festival, edizioni e analisi di alcuni brani per banda giovanile.Nel primo capitolo, partendo dalle interviste, ho scritto una storia della banda giovanile attraverso sei esempi che a mio parere sono stati importanti in questi ultimi vent'anni. Partendo dalla prima banda giovanile italiana, la Banda Giovanile Rappresentativa della Federazione Corpi Bandistici della provincia di Trento nata nel 1991, ho cercato di dare uno sguardo generale a tutta l'Italia, dal Trentino al Friuli, dalla Lombardia all'Emilia, per arrivare fino in Calabria.Nel secondo capitolo ho cominciato parlando del Concorso Internazionale di composizioni ori-ginali per banda giovanile “Città di Sinnai”, per arrivare ai concorsi di esecuzione italiani e al festival per bande giovanili con la storia più longeva: “A Tutta Banda” di Pergine Valsugana che ha raggiunto nel 2012 la XVIII edizione.Il terzo capitolo tratta le edizioni italiane specifiche per banda giovanile, al momento attuale solamente la casa editrice Scomegna ha una linea editoriale dedicata esclusivamente alla banda giovanile e basata su criteri ben definiti, e nel quarto capitolo, dopo un'analisi comparativa delle linee guida del Tavolo Permanente per i gradi 1 – 2,5, c'è l'analisi di un brano per ogni livello di difficoltà.

Born in 1982, he first studied music at the Trento Music School, from which he graduated in 2001. A year later, under the guidance of Maestro Pepito Ros, he graduated in the saxophone. In 2007 he gained a diploma in Composition and Instrumentation for Bands with Daniele Carnevali at the Trento Conservatory, and in 2012 he achieved a degree in Band Instrumentation, specialising in Com-position, Conducting and Instrumentation for Bands from the same conservatory, with full marks and honours. He studied composition and band conducting with Daniele Carnevali (I), Hardy Mertens (NL), Marco Somadossi (I), Louis Buskens (NL), Jan Cober (NL), and Steven Melillo (USA). During a stage with Fulvio Creux (I) in Rome, he conducted the Italian Armed Forces Band. His pieces “Penta” and “Popular Suite” won the first and second prizes in the composition contest “Centenary of the Foundation” at San Martino Canavese, Turin. These compositions and other works for bands are published by Scomegna in Turin. As an instrumentalist he has worked with the Great Representative Band of the Trentino Band Federation, with the Trentino Wind Band and the Liceo Rosmini Wind Orchestra, with which he participated in 2005 in the World Music Contest at Kerkrade (NL), winning in the third category. He currently conducts the Tuenno Municipal Band and the “Altopiano di Andalo” Band. In 2007 he was maestro of the Youth Band of the Trentino Band Federation and since 2009 has been maestro of the “Valli del Noce” Youth Band, with which he won the third prize in the Youth B category at the XIII National Band Contest “La acchetta d'oro” at Fiuggi.

Evolution and analysis of the phenomenon over the last twenty years.Presentation of the work done for Giovanni Bruni’s dissertation at the end of theInstrumentation for Bands biennial course run by the Trento Music Conservatory.At the end of my university studies in the Trento Music Conservatory I chose to produce a work dedicated to Youth Bands because I believe that to raise the musical level of bands in Italy is necessary to address the training of young band players. In order to achiere this, we need to have an overview of what happens throughout our country in this field. Through interviewing several people who have worked for the future of bands over the past twenty years I have tried to given an Italian view of the world that gravitates around Youth Bands. I therefore decided to divide my work into four chapters: history, contests and festivals, editions and analysis of some pieces written for youth bands. In the first chapter, on the basis of the interviews, I have written a history of youth bands using six examples which in my opinion have been important over the past twenty years. Starting with the first Italian youth band, the Representative Youth Band of the Trento Band Federation founded in 1991, I have attempted to give a general overview of Italy, from Trento to Lombardy, to Emilia Romagna, arriving in Calabria. The second chapter begins with the “Città di Sinnai” International Contest for original compositions for youth bands, goes on talking about the longest Italian band contest and youth band festival: “A Tutta Banda”, at Pergine Valsugana, which reached its 18th edition in 2012. The third chapter deals with Ital-ian editions of music specifically for, youth bands. Up to now only the publisher Scomegna has an editorial line dedicated exclusively to youth bands and based on well-defined criteria. In the fourth chapter, after a comparative analysis of the Tavolo Permanente guidelines for grades 1 - 2.5 there is an analysis of one piece for each level of difficulty.
