In response to major changes in the priorities of biomedical science and health care, the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City is the first medical school in

the United States to drive a fundamental shi! in pre-medical education by o"ering college sophomores from any major early acceptance, no MCAT requirement, and a progressive

approach to medical school preparation for half of each entering class.

Our new FlexMed program allows college sophomores to pursue any undergraduate majors, unencumbered by traditional pre-med requirements such as organic chemistry,

calculus, and the MCAT.

In 2012, U.S. News & World Report ranked Icahn School of Medicine at

Mount Sinai 18th out of 149 medical schools nationwide.

About FlexMed

Named to honor the legacy of Abraham Flexner, a pioneer educator who revolutionized medical education early in the 20th century, FlexMed was designed to transform medical education by cultivating physicians who are grounded in 21st century science and the social context in which they practice medicine. The program builds on the success of Mount Sinai’s Humanities and Medicine (HuMed) program, which in 1987 was the first program in the United States to accept students with a humanities background into medical school during their sophomore year of college.

How Does the Program Work?

Students who are interested in FlexMed must apply during their sophomore year of college. Applicants must have completed either one year of Chemistry or Biology. Le!ers of acceptance will be mailed out by the summer of applicants’ sophomore year.

To learn more about the program and how to apply, please visit h!p://icahn.mssm.edu/flexmed

Students accepted to FlexMed will have the time and academic flexibility to pursue any

major they choose.

“FlexMed allows talented students with

lots of initiative to ‘flex’ their intellectual, creative,

humanistic and scientific muscles during college,

unencumbered by traditional pre-med requirements and the

Medical College Admission Test (MCAT).”
