What is an apprenticeship? An apprenticeship is a paid full-time job that combines work and 20% off-the-job training, resulting in a qualification at the end of the programme.
How is your levy fund calculated? The amount of funding available in your levy account is:• 0.5% of your payroll bill• Minus the £15,000 allowance• Multiplied by the proportion of your payroll bill that’s paid to employees in England• Plus a 10% government top-up on this amount
Who can be an apprentice?Anyone, of any age, that’s entitled to work in the UK. They can be current employees or new starts.
What can you spend your levy fund on?You can use it to pay for the 20% required off-the-job training and assessment with registered training providers and assessment centres.
You can’t spend it on apprentices’ salaries, expenses, travel costs, management costs, or any other expenses associated with your apprentice besides off-the-job training and assessment.
How do you get started with apprenticeships?First, register with the Apprenticeships Service at www.manage-apprenticeships.service.gov.uk. You’ll need your Government Gateway login details to hand (someone from payroll will usually have these).
The Apprenticeships Service allows you to calculate and manage your fund contribution, search for apprenticeship standards, register and pay training providers (like us), and add apprentices.
When you’re ready, we’ll consult with you in-house to discuss how we’ll deliver and manage your apprenticeship strategy. Then, we’ll guide you in registering your apprentices and beginning your apprenticeship programme.
For full details on managing your apprenticeship funds, visit:www.gov.uk/guidance/manage-apprenticeship-funds
What do our apprenticeship programmes look like?
They’ll study their qualification online through our 24/7 Student Community, with monthly online performance reviews.
They’ll attend quarterly skill-development workshops with apprentices from other businesses.
They’ll be supported by in-person tutor visits, at a frequency and schedule set by your company.
They’ll also study English and Maths, if required.
You’ll receive regular performance and progress reports.
Your apprentice will develop their skills through working full-time within your business.
They’ll be supported by a coach/ mentor within your workplace.
They’ll compile their Skills Portfolio, which they’ll submit as part of their EPA.
Initial assessment
Gateway
End-Point Assessment (EPA)
On-the-job training Off-the-job training
We’ll visit your company to assess your apprentice’s English, maths and occupational knowledge. We’ll also agree your apprentice’s workplace mentor and off-the-job training schedule.
Towards the end of the apprenticeship, your apprentice will be signed off as ready for the EPA. This must be agreed by you as their employer, and by us as the training provider.
You apprentices will sit an independent EPA with a registered assessment centre. This will assess the knowledge, skills and behaviours they’ve learned throughout their apprenticeship, and ensure they’re prepared to excel in their role.
