HISTORIC ELEGANCE

Audley Flete House is a luxury Grade I listed country manor with stunning stables, located five miles from the coast. The attractive historic towns of lvybridge and Modbury are a few miles down the road with shops, cafes and local amenities, and nearby railway links to lvybridge and Totnes.

The properties at Flete House are designed and beautifully restored to complement the buildings charm and historic character. The village comprises 29 apartments with a variety of layouts and stunning outlooks across the picturesque valley.

The estate and country manor is surrounded by stunning gardens, beautiful grounds and extraordinary views. Beyond the breathtaking backdrop is the coastal preservation area, the South Devon Heritage Coast and a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

A WALK THROUGH HISTORY

With roots dating back to Saxon times, Flete House was held by the Damarell family from 1066 until the time of Edward III.

The earliest part of the house dates from the sixteenth century, and was substantially rebuilt around 1620 for Sir Charles Hele. The Hele family held the house in both the early and the late eighteenth century. The house was heavily remodelled in the Gothic style in 1835 by J.C. Bulteel, which obliterated the early and late eighteenth century classical work and added castellations.

In 1861 the railway came to Plymouth enabling the Mildmays to visit Flete as guests of the Bulteels. Henry Bingham Mildmay (1828-1905) loved the place so much that he bought the whole estate extending down to the sea at Mothecombe (now the family home).

FROM MODBURY

Take the A379 towards Plymouth, for about two miles; just after crossing the Erme at Sequers Bridge, the entrance to Flete House will be seen on the left hand side. Turn in between the fine stone gateposts and follow the road through the park and up hill, through another grand stone entrance into the large car park for property owners and visitors.

We have been building and managing luxury villages for over 20 years but our experience in providing high-quality accommodation and care for older people goes back much further.

GROWING COMMUNITIES

Willicombe Park in Royal Tunbridge Wells, our first retirement village, opened back in 2000. We are proud to say it is now a thriving community. And thanks to our financial backing, we are also pushing ahead with our plans to build further luxury villages across the UK.

In 1983 our Chief Executive Nick Sanderson founded a company called Beaumont – which over time developed the conventional care home concept into something completely different- the UK’s very first luxury retirement villages. Over thirty years on we have grown to be a successful company. Our solid foundations and innovative thinking have attracted major financial backing from companies, including Private Patients Plan, 3i and, most recently, Moorfield Group.
