Getting Loyd ReadyGetting Loyd ReadyThe preparation of the school began in the Summer. It included the labeling of all the offices, classrooms, and different places in Spanish and English. All the phrases included their phonetic pronunciation, which was helpful to teachers who didn’t command the Spanish language.

Reading and WritingReading and Writing• Upon receiving the

materials for curriculum, reading series and manipulatives, we immediately put them into action. We include reading and writing to the cross-curricular component of FLES. This, we do in addition to culture, conversation, community and connections.

Hispanic Heritage Hispanic Heritage CelebrationCelebration

• This year’s Hispanic Heritage Celebration included guests from South America , sponsors from WHINSEC (former School of the Americas, based out of Fort Benning) who came to perform their typical dances to the children.

• In addition to this, we had a Hispanic Heritage Essay Contest where prompts were provided to comply with the DoDea Language Arts Standards for Writing. Certificates were given in Spanish.

The Other FLES….The Other FLES….Both Fort Benning FLES (Spanish) and FLES (Mandarin Chinese) teachers join forces and participate in each other’s programs to show support for FLES.

Ms. Ossa and myself participated in various Mandarin lessons where we were the students. We experienced the second language acquisition process from the eyes of the kids.
