Fleetwood A worsted weight hat, knit in
the round, made from stockingette and twisted rib
stitches.
March 2011
About Fleetwood This is a wool cap knit in the round that combines plain stockingette
stitches with twisted rib stitches. I got the idea for the toque, and its name, from the Fleetwood Mac song “Second Hand News,” specifically the line in the song that says: “lay me down in the tall grass, and let me do my stuff.”
The Lettuce colourway combined with the twisted rib stitches made me think of grass, and the stockingette stitches make it look as if someone and compressed the grass by laying on it.
No matter what colour of yarn you choose to make it in, I hope you enjoy the design.
Love,
Leigh McDonna

Cast On
Using the Long-Tail cast on method, cast on 100 stitches. Join for working in the round, being careful not to twist the work. Place a split ring marker to indicate the beginning of the round.

Crown Decreases
Remove and replace markers as you go. In order to set up for the k3tog stitches, slip 2 stitches before marker onto right needle, remove marker, then slip two slipped stitches back onto left hand needle and replace marker. Your new beginning of round has now moved to the last two stitches of the previous round and will continue to do so for every odd round repeat. If using markers to signify pattern repeats:
repeat the instructions as above for each marker.
Round 1: * k3tog, (p1, k1tbl) 8
times, p1* repeat from * around.
Round 2: *k1tbl, p1* around to last
two stitches of round.
Round 3: *k3tog, (p1, k1tbl) 7 times,
p1 * repeat from * around.
Round 4 and all even rounds:
Repeat Round 2.
