Tips by Keith Davis
Holding the rhizome down!
Metal clips that attach to the side of pot work well for plants in 6" pots or smaller. For larger pots and plants, I use bamboo stakes that traverse across the pot holding down the plant.
Attach each end into a hole that you’ve melted into the side of a plastic pot by heating a wire or skewer with the torch or by placing the bamboo stake under a hanger or clay pot clip.
Clay pot clips are easy to make. Plastic pot clips, as well as Clay, are available from Broward Orchid Supply (954-925-2021), Green Barn Orchid Supply (561-499-2810), OFE International (305-253-7080) or Tropical Plant Products (407-293-2451).

GET YOUR ADVANCED-SALE TICKETS TO FORT LAUDERDALE ORCHID SHOW!! Sandi Block-Brezner will have a limited amount of tickets to this year’s Ft. Lauderdale Orchid Society Show, An Orchid Masquerade! This year the show is January 15-17, at the War Memorial Auditorium, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. each day.

Show & Tell Takes a Twist !
Beginning in January, we will be changing how we do our Show & Tell of our orchids! We hope it will
be more interactive with each member being able to participate!!
Bringing In Your Orchid
When you bring in your orchid for the Show & Tell table, you will fill out a short entry form with the
orchid’s name and your name. The FGOS member in charge of Show & Tell will assign a number to
your orchid. Fold the form so your name is hidden and only the orchid name & number is showing!
Place the form next to your orchid.
Voting
Once all the orchids are in, member’s can begin voting up until the Raffle. To vote, PICK UP a
Member’s Choice Ballot, FILL in the number of the orchid, and DROP the ballot in the ballot box.
During the raffle, the FGOS member in charge of Show & Tell will count the ballots.
Winner
At the end of the meeting, the winning Member’s Choice Orchid will be announced and given a blue
ribbon! (Ties are possible!) Then a photo will be taken of the winner with his/her orchid for the
newsletter!
Culture Award
If there is an orchid deserving of a Culture Award, members will fill out the special Culture Award Ballot and drop it in the ballot box too. It may be possible to have both a Member’s Choice winner and a Member’s Choice Culture Award winner! The Culture Award winner
will receive a ribbon also and a have a picture taken for the newsletter!
