What is Fixed Access Network?Access Network provides access to the
immediate Internet Service Provider(ISP)Fixed Access(FA) means Fixed Establishment and Fixed ConnectivityConnectivity is dedicated and NOT sharedMobility is NOT supported
FA mainly deals with Enterprise Customer Services i.e. B2B services
ISP Hierarchy ISP
TIER 1 TIER 2 TIER 3
2 Important Terms PoP (Point of Presence) NAP (Network Access Point)
Tier 1• Large ISP’S directly connected to Internet Backbone• Network Connectivity without paying IP transits• Connected to International Gateway• Eg: Reliance,VSNL,Airtel
Tier 2• Medium size ISP’s having peers with some networks• Pays IP transits/settlements to reach some parts of the network• Eg. Aircel,Idea,Virgin Mobiles
Tier 3• Local ISP’s buying services from Tier 1 & Tier 2 ISP’s• No backbone• Focussed only on Retail Market• Eg. Wishnet,Alliance,Bittel
FA Network Services
1. Dedicated Internet Access (DIA) Dedicated Bandwidth is provided by ISP for Internet Access through its MEN Backbone.

L2 switch (CPE)
Services Continued…2. Leased Line(LL) Dedicated pipes provisioned for internal communication of an organisation. The two types of backbone used for the service are a) SDH Transport (TDM based) b) Ethernet Backbone (IP/MAC based)
Head Office(Server
)
Office 2 Office 3
Services Continued…3. L3VPN(Layer 3 Virtual Private Network): Secure Network using MPLS provided through ISP backbone to an organisation for Inter Office Connect and Remote Login.

Head Office(Server)
Security via Routing Separation (VRF)
Traffic Priority via different Class of Service (CoS)
Remote Access (eg. Telecommute and SSL Office Connect)
Services Continued…4. PRI (Primary Rate Interface)/CENTRIX E1 (2Mbps) line is provisioned via SDH network for internal voice calls of an organization. The E1 line terminates at the EPBX of the Customer Premises from where phone calls are switched.
FA Network Services provide:High reach ,scalability and flexibilityEnd to End SLAReliability (uptime of about 100%)Bandwidth Aggregation

Network PlanningNetwork Topology is decided by optimising
CAPEX against REVENUEoCAPEX is estimated by Planning and SCR teamoRevenue is estimated by Business Team depending upon
degree of SLA and Customer Order SpecificationThe general network topology solutions are:
CONNECTIVITY based TECHNOLOGY based1. P2P(Point to Point): Fixed Allocation of Bandwidth with no Bandwidth Splitting or Aggregation scope
2. P2A(Point to Aggregator):Aggregator Module at Provider End allows the provision of Bandwidth adjustment
1.EoPDH(Ethernet over PDH)This allows transport of Ethernet type data over PDH/SDH type networks. Used for VPN services
2. TDMoIP (TDM over IP):This allows transport of TDM type data over IP based/MEN networks. Used for PRI services
Last Mile SolutionDepends on feasibility conditionsWirelined: CPE is close to nearest PoP. Physical installation of optical fiber/pilot cable is feasible and cost effective.
Wireless: LOS propagation is possible. Feasibility check performed by RF Survey Team.
UBR(Unlicensed Band Radio): Transmits Ethernet type Data at unlicensed bands (2.5GHz and 5.8Ghz) via UBR antennae. Highly interference prone.
IP Radio: Smart L3 device transmitting IP based Data at licensed Microwave Frequencies.
PDH Microwave Radio: Transmits PDH type data at licensed spectrum.
