Goingout about nine o’clock, the landowner saw others standing idle in the marketplace, and he said to them, ‘You toogo into my vineyard, and I will give you what is just.’ So they went off. And he went out again around noon, andaround three o’clock, and did likewise. Going out about five o’clock, the landowner found others standing around,and said to them, ‘Why do you stand here idle all day?’ They answered, ‘Because no one has hired us.’ He said tothem, ‘You too go into my vineyard.’ When it was evening the owner of the vineyard said to his foreman,‘Summon the laborers and give them their pay, beginning with the last and ending with the first.’When those whohad started about five o’clock came, each received the usual daily wage. So when the first came, they thought thatthey would receive more, but each of them also got the usual wage. And on receiving it they grumbled against thelandowner, saying, ‘These last ones worked only one hour, and you have made them equal to us, who bore theday’s burden and the heat.’ He said to one of them in reply, ‘My friend, I am not cheating you. Did you not agreewith me for the usual daily wage? Take what is yours and go. What if I wish to give this last one the same asyou? Or am I not free to do as I wish with my own money? Are you envious because I am generous?’ Thus, the lastwill be first, and the first will be last.”

READ Read the following passage for this upcoming Sunday’s Gospel three times very slowly somewhere quiet.

Matthew 21:28-32 Jesus said to the chief priests and elders of the people: "What is your opinion? A man had two sons. He came to the first and said, 'Son, go out and work in the vineyard today.' He said in reply, 'I will not, ' but afterwards changed his mind and went. The man came to the other son and gave the same order. He said in reply, 'Yes, sir, ‘but did not go. Which of the two did his father's will?" They answered, "The first." Jesus said to them, "Amen, I say to you, tax collectors and prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God before you. When John came to you in the way of righteousness, you did not believe him; but tax collectors and prostitutes did. Yet even when you saw that, you did not later change your minds and believe him."

REFLECT Meditate on the passage by sitting in silence and allowing a word or phrase to jump out at you. Perhaps you even put yourself in the scene. What is God saying to you through this?

St. Lawrence Haven, Holy Family Soup Kitchen, the Bishop Griffin Center, St. Phillip's Food Pantry, and the St. Francis Outreach Center in Scioto County were abundantly blessed with items that are truly needed right now. We are planning another food drive in 6-8 weeks, so be on the lookout for more info coming soon! Along with critically needed food items this one will include gently used coats for our neighbors living in poverty in Scioto County. What’s happening at St. Catharine

Alpha Online Mondays at 7pm or Thursdays at 8:30pm

Alpha is a series of sessions exploring the Christian faith run over 11 weeks. Each talk looks at a different question around faith and is designed to create conversation. They explore the big issues around faith and unpack the basics of Christianity, addressing questions such as “Who is Jesus?” and “Why and How Do I Pray?” Fall sessions begin September 21st and 24th. Men’s Breakfast With The Bishop Thursdays // 6:30am • Begins September 24th
